@Dreadzedan its only faster because it was developed there, i also suspect the reason it wasn't fastest here is because it takes some getting used to the first time you really go for it.
All really beautiful cars. I thought the P-car was a GT2 when it was pulling out of the paddock, did not catch it initially though as they said RS. So its the GT2 RS they ran! Not bad placement considering the competition.
While I am a P-car nut, who can't love them all? What a great job to have, drive these, talk stuff, be polite, and do it all over again. My perfect job description.
People should remember this MP4 had a suspension leak which made the system react in tenths of seconds not milliseconds. Some thing that was recorded in the magazine article and not in the video.
Mclaren came back and redone the lap with their test drive under the same conditions and got a 1:27.7

that's weird. gallardo beat the mp4? and the ferrari beat the 911 gt2 rs? that's surprising. the ferrari is 100kg heavier and has 40hp less, and the gallardo is 200kg and has 40hp less. I get the ferrari is one of the most perfectly built cars and has some of the best systems and equipment on it plus the most downforce and is known to post faster than expected times but the gallardo? maybe he had a bad run in the mp4, it was his first time
@thnk4urself I've driven the 458 many times and let me tell you that in 20 years this car will still beat the pants of many other cars. The thing is that "Numbers" dont always tell the true story. The Traction ctrl on the mclaren is not fully defeatable, in turn that slows down the drivers ability to interact with the car.

I don't know how they do it but the 458 seems to be one of the most perfect supercars ever made. the numbers are very deceiving, in that way it reminds me of the nissan GT-R, but the difference is, it still is an amazingly exciting car to drive that doesn't feel at all like the car is doing any of the work for you correct? what I've inferred, is that ferrari's tcs, asm, etc systems feel like they're meant to make you faster opposed to safer like most, is that true?
@thnk4urself I have to agree with you- the times done in this video don't seem to add up. I am not in any way suggesting that Collins can't drive a car to its limit, but there is no way the GT2 RS and MP4is that 'slow'. Possibly it was a very hot day because both turbocharged cars (MP4 and GT2) under performed. Or maybe he got straight out of the 458 into the GT2 and tried to adapt that diving style to it, which won't work in a 911. I'd still take the GT2 though, regardless of figures

I could buy that the 458 was the fastest, it's an incredible car, it's like the nissan GT-R where it goes much much faster around corners than it should be able to on paper, but the gallardo? that's just weird. Lamborghini's are great but they really aren't the best handling/performing cars in comparison to the rest. I'd take the McLaren I think, best looking IMO, I do love the 458 too tho
@rforracing I completely agree. They switched stigs and all of a sudden, all cars started breaking records and placing times way faster than they should be compared to the old times. I mean a fuckin nissan GTR beat a Veyron for christ sake. Obviously the new stig is a brilliant driver but the times are now very misleading and that's a shame. I'd like to see them retest the ferrari 458 and veyron ss, they both will destroy the mp4-12cs time if lapped by the new stig
Regardless of the outcome of this Ferrari sponsered test, my choice would be the McLaren. It's way more exotic and all made in the UK !! And yes, as per all the other comments here, THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM CAN BE DISABLED !!

@gabymunteanu I wouldn't say that McLaren has failed. It created a fast and comfortable car, akin to that of a GT than a supercar actually. More of a Nissan GTR than a Ferrari 458. And I wouldn't say that Ferrari is all that fast either, the company has the tendency to tune up their car from their original specifications before handing it over for reviews so they can win almost all the comparisons and shoot outs there is. So Ferrari isn't all that as you think.

@fastcougar3200 not to say he's not a big ferrari fan, but you have to admit, ever since top gear got a new stig, lap times have been much much quicker. if you think the mclaren really is faster that's fine but 3 seconds faster? you have to admit, that's not accurate at all. the fact is the new stig is a much faster driver and takes a faster line on that track. on most other tracks, there's not a 3 second difference, not even on the nurburgring
@ametystbrain actually the mp4 is below 1400kg unless you're counting the driver and fuel or something. I still disagree though, the ferrari is faster on most occasions because it gets the power down much more easily and has one the best differentials and suspensions out there. plus the downforce and advanced computers keeping it on the road. it's strange, all that and people critisize the mp4 for not being exciting enough? I don't buy that. plus the mp4 is much better looking

The Little Mac would be the fastest for not only the average driver, but virtually 99% of people walking the face of the planet (including every single commenter here, that has no F1 experience). Fact is, we all suck to various degrees, and the McLaren will make us better, whereas the GT2 RS and even the 458 don't "interfere" enough to raise our paltry skill level.
Also, the McLaren is less of a marque nameplate and is, by far, the rarest of the lot (the RS looks just like any other 911).

@Mamertum345 In Car magazine they state quite clearly that it was a hydraulic leak in the suspension that caused the McLaren to be slower than the Ferrari. Please read the issue if you don't believe me.
Personally, if I had the money, I'd go with the Ferrari. Why? Because it looks better. I want a car to excite me and not leave me feeling, "is that it?". For me, the Ferrari wins. Actually I'd take the Lambo Aventador over all these. So there you go.

And the faster lap-time on another day is irrelevant (1:27:7) cause the conditions were different.

Only 28 bhp is the difference between McLaren MP-4 and Ferrrari 458 Italia is quite short to explain 2,8 sec difference in a 1m 15sec track. Overall efficiency, that’s what we are talking about. The same overall efficiency that makes also the Nissan GTR faster than the 458 Italia in Top Gear test track. @gabymunteanu They already built a McLaren better than Ferrari, and it's called F1. I am pretty shure that that car is still the fastest street car in the world, and I belive it would be the fastest on Top Gear track. And that's just because it weights 1130 kg.

@gabymunteanu I wouldn't say that McLaren has failed. It created a fast and comfortable car, akin to that of a GT than a supercar actually. More of a Nissan GTR than a Ferrari 458. And I wouldn't say that Ferrari is all that fast either, the company has the tendency to tune up their car from their original specifications before handing it over for reviews so they can win almost all the comparisons and shoot outs there is. So Ferrari isn't all that as you think.

@fastcougar3200 not to say he's not a big ferrari fan, but you have to admit, ever since top gear got a new stig, lap times have been much much quicker. if you think the mclaren really is faster that's fine but 3 seconds faster? you have to admit, that's not accurate at all. the fact is the new stig is a much faster driver and takes a faster line on that track. on most other tracks, there's not a 3 second difference, not even on the nurburgring

@ametystbrain actually the mp4 is below 1400kg unless you're counting the driver and fuel or something. I still disagree though, the ferrari is faster on most occasions because it gets the power down much more easily and has one the best differentials and suspensions out there. plus the downforce and advanced computers keeping it on the road. it's strange, all that and people critisize the mp4 for not being exciting enough? I don't buy that. plus the mp4 is much better looking

The Little Mac would be the fastest for not only the average driver, but virtually 99% of people walking the face of the planet (including every single commenter here, that has no F1 experience). Fact is, we all suck to various degrees, and the McLaren will make us better, whereas the GT2 RS and even the 458 don't "interfere" enough to raise our paltry skill level.
Also, the McLaren is less of a marque nameplate and is, by far, the rarest of the lot (the RS looks just like any other 911).

However, Ferrari is working on a Scuderia version of the 458. 650Hp with 100 Kgs less than the standard 458. I leave it up to your imagination how many light years the Ferrari would be BETTER than the McLaren.

@Mamertum345 In Car magazine they state quite clearly that it was a hydraulic leak in the suspension that caused the McLaren to be slower than the Ferrari. Please read the issue if you don't believe me.
Personally, if I had the money, I'd go with the Ferrari. Why? Because it looks better. I want a car to excite me and not leave me feeling, "is that it?". For me, the Ferrari wins. Actually I'd take the Lambo Aventador over all these. So there you go.

I don't think so..." Quoted straight from the magazine. That added to the fact that the MC was beaten in every other test bar the Top Gear one shows that the MC is not faster despite the paper stats. And the faster lap-time on another day is irrelevant (1:27:7) cause the conditions were different.

@crazyboyxx its the mclarren fanboys who cant take it..the 458 has a better engine, better gear change, better handling, better brakes, easier to drive, and actually FASTER in real life...the mp4 may be quicker in a straight line or on special tracks, but in the real world the ferrari puts a smile on ur face, is more enjoyable to drive and is actually faster in real conditions...every test drive has proven this....no other car can match the enjoyment of driving a ferrari !!

The Mclaren is cited as the most usable supercar available, because unlike the 458 it doesn't have ridiculously light steering and is more tractable in varying conditions. Only car enthusiasts will buy Mclarens; posers will stick to Ferrari
