certainly not the best rendition of this amazing pas de deux. They both sort of fell out of the fouttee turns and she seemed to struggle with the diagonal allegro steps at the end. I agree with the other comments about Miranda's hands...not classical at all. In fact many of her positions were not classical. Still, not bad and the music and chreoegrpahy can't be beat.
Darci Kistler was supposed to be in this role in the live telecast but had to be replaced due to injury at the last minute. So that it probably a reason it looks not 100%.
This is was a pretty messy Black Swan. Damian looks good and all that but he's no Siegfried.. NYCB dancers tend to dance the full lengths the same way they do Balanchine.. an unequivocal No No....
Balanchine style always has the "broken wrist" but Miranda in particular has always been a flicker. Here it's in character, but I remember seeing her flick flick flick through Martins' Sleeping Beauty where it was very out of place.
paradiselost, if balanchine companies shouldn't do classical rep why should other companies who aren't balanchine do balanchine rep?? because it is good for the company and the dancers. just because its not purely 'classical' whatever that means, doesn't make it bad... and fyi, darci kistler makes an excellent swan queen, because she was trained by the best. aka tumi, stanley williams, and balachine... miranda also recieved this training. i know because i am a personal friend.
ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh those terrible Balanchine claws i dont know why a "classical" balanchine based company would even venture into the classics when they are not trained to do so. if one pays attention it was when the russians where at SAB that the american ballerinas of the now retired or about to retire excelled at classical ballets I.E Jaffe,Kent,KIrkland, and im sure others i cant recall people should do what they know NYCB is not a classical company
Weese was a late replacement, which is why the parternering isn't the smoothest. Darci Kistler was supposed to have danced for the telecast, but pulled out sometime the day prior to the taping (I saw the performance live).
beautiful!! *-*

I think it's very nice choreography and two very nice dancers. Not the best I've seen, but still very great. She has such graceful arms.

Performing live can be incredibly stresfull and I think they did a very good job.

I saw Kyra Nichols perform this in 1999 when it debuted. I love Martins' Swan Lake, even if some don't.

I was a bit iffy about the flicking of the wrists but Miranda definately uses it to amplify her character.

usually these fouettes turn to the right. She did those turning to the left. I have never seen this before.
