Also, the Seven Deadly "Sins" are a set of things that have nationalistically been observed to be evil (except lust. Lust itself causes no harm, it's how one handles their lust that can cause harm). Greed, envy, wrath (not simply anger. wrath. There's a difference.), vanity, gluttony, sloth and mishandled lust have all been observed to lead to deadly situations when left untempered. For example, corporate greed leading to people being unable to pay for cancer treatment.
GEERUP, even if you believe morals come from God, you determine whether or not something is good or bad by figuring out if it seems to be helpful or harmful to your ideal world. And that's exactly how morality can arise without God; most of us would like to live in a world without murder, and so we have collectively agreed that murder is evil behavior. And calling evil "sin" implies direct offense to a deity. That's why atheists have a problem with that word. In our eyes, the word is dogmatic.
Moral sense is a disease that humans have. Animals do not have a moral sense and they have never had genocides, wars, greed, or lust. Your "God" gave us our moral sense which allow us to "sin".
The biggest SEXUAL-HOMOS out there are christians. i feel so bad that people are so gullible. I would not doubt if religion will destroy the earth in the next 100 years, religion is the biggest downfall of mankind. You GEERUP are a deluded, mentally challenged person. Im sad for you for being so ignorant and closed minded with no knowledge or understanding of common sense. to be honest, you are PATHETIC. the only thing you could do to prove you are not gay, would be to burn the bible. have fun!!
roman emperor Constantine was the first to turn to accept christianity. Even before him, christian church already had picked out 21 books, but it was finished 60 years after COnstantines death. What is funny is that HUMANS, heads of church at that time, were picking which books to add and which to burn. Among the burned ones were Gospels of Peter, Thomas, Matthaias, Acts of Andrew, John etc. But information doesnt matter to you, you simply believe what you want to believe!
another coward on youtube hiding behind camera, ranting on his beliefs and not presenting any justification for them. Showing ignorance, not even researching things he talks about. Saying "all the prophecies that came to be" and then failing to even mention one and explaining it is simply hypocritical. and check history, bible was written by man, not god.
it really pisses me off that you are dumb enough to make sin and immorality equivalent. it shouldn't but your narrow minded views,if you can even call them views (you're more blind) astound me and make me sick. you haven't even questioned yourself to why you are christian and not some other religion. you've never entertained the thought of having no religion i bet. it can work. just like i can see religion working for someone (even me) you should see how atheism can work (even for you).
fulfillment of scripture with such accurate detail like in the old testament being fulfilled in jesus christ and the fulfillment of "all that prophesy".yea... all that.all that prophesy that's out there.ohh yea.sin isnt the opposite of morality, that's just ignorant. sin is the transgression of the law of god and the rebellion from him. morality does not include god, religion, or this "god's" law. morality doesn't have to have anything to do with your god.sin does.keep lying to the idiot masses
greed - taking more than your fair share and not contributing. Whatever you can think of that you feel is evil, you should be able to find some practical evolutionary reason for it feeling wrong to you. That's how we have evolved. Step outside yourself as a human, how can everything be good or evil? Everything just is.
Try reading some books other than the bible, and books which don't necessarily support the bible. If the message in the bible is true then it will stand up to all challenges.
Well Scientology basically did that, made up their own religion.
Actions that most people feel to be 'good' are things that help the human race as a whole to survive, things like putting others before one's self, treating others as you would be treated etc.
Actions that most people feel to be 'evil' are things that hinder the human race as a whole, murder, sex with children (before they will be able to reproduce), sex with the same sex (which won't reproduce... if you think that's evil), ...
Morality is derived from society. The ancient Greeks has no issue with raping young boys. As recently as the 1800's a gunfight was considered a legal method of dispute resolution. If atheists are correct and there is no afterlife, murder becomes an even more reprehensible act, since the soul has no chance to live on. With regard to the bible's "moral code", I call to your attention: Deuteronomy 17:12, Leviticus 20:13, Leviticus 20:27, Exodus 21:15, Leviticus 20:9, Leviticus 20:10...
Not true. Hitler was judged by the world-at-large to be evil in his day. The global society. Even within his own society, there were those who disagreed.
But look at the USA today. There are many who consider our presence and actionsin the Middle East to be evil. Are we?
When we kill civilians then yes we are evil. So are the suicide bombers. When we condones slavery and the rest of the world did as well were we evil for doing so? Yes, now i think there was a lot of ignorance and the reasoning behind it was not always malicious but rather economic, yet still oppressive. So I would say that oppressively taking blacks as slaves against their will was evil even though a majority of the world had no problem at the time.
I couldn't agree more with you on the issue of slavery. Be sure to check out Leviticus 25:44-46, Exodus 21:2-6, and Exodus 21:7-11 to see what your Bible has to say on the matter...
Sin is a concept directly relating to god's "moral" law. I'm not sure myth is the right word for it, but it is for god's moral law.
You really need a history lesson on scripture...I have no idea where to begin explaining how confused you are.
Sin is not the lack of morals...is a direct violation of "god's law". I can have morality without sin because I define things that are, and are not discussed in scripture as wrong completely independent to the fiction of god.
Also. Look at Heaven's Gate. Look at Waco. Look at the Mormons, the Egyptians & every other system of religion. They were all designed like any system of government or control. No, not by brilliant people, just manipulative ones. Through religion, people convince weaker minds of their impurities & ways to better themselves in "god's" eyes. This gives religion power over them because THEY control what god says. I'm not just talking yours.. but all of them are attempts to control the masses.
Well, we don't have shared morals. Look at how many people argue over what is moral! Sin is also a western concept. Easten theology doesn't have sin. Wrong doing is undesirable actions. Sin only exists in YOUR religion and it's branches, so trying to force that concept on the rest of the world doesn't jive. Eastern thought would say there is yin and yang in all things, a balance of light and dark, both are needed and both are good. So your argument is without merit for all non christians.
Even lower primates show that they have a moral system. They understand fairness and injustice.
Christianity not only does NOT give people morals, it absolves people of their responsibility because they are told that forgiveness is given simply for asking.
I'm a preachers kid and have seen from the inside what Christians are all about. Over the last 30 years I've seen the hypocrisy, weak-mindedness, and what I call the spiritual leeches who are attracted by this cult. It's pathetic
Anyone who has studied the history of the Christian church knows that the Catholic church had complete control over which books were allowed into the bible and which were considered heresy. Ever read the books of Philip and Thomas? Of course you haven't, because the child molesters in purple robes decided FOR you that you shouldn't be reading those books. You 'real Xtians consider the catholic church a cult yet you use a book CREATED by the most corrupt men.
We justify our morality with different means. We justify it through either self-improvement, compassion for others, what will make everyone involved at least somewhat happy, or what will make the world a better place. You justify your morality through fear of burning forever, and a better place for yourself in heaven after you die. Who's more selfless here?
If the elites wrote the bible how did they bury the dead sea scrolls with the hope that someone would dig them up hundreds of years later? see Chris Whites video "why the illuminati couldn't have written the Bible" he answers this question excellently
Love your channel Geerup keep up the good work and God Bless
It doesn't take a mastermind to figure out that if you threaten someone with horrible punishment (in this case hell), it's easier to make them do what you want. Parents do it with children all the time.
Of course humans have morals without god. The human race wouldn't have survived long enough for there to *be* a bible if we didn't. We would have killed each other a long time ago.
A majority of the wars in history were caused by religion. Just something to think about.
I'm atheist, I don't think that an "elite group of geniuses" created the bible, no in fact they were regular people trying to understand their surroundings and create a society.
Morality is natural, you can see it throughout the animal kingdom, what the writers of the bible did is take their natural morality and write a rule book for it, I wonder do you honestly believe that before the bible there was no morality, poppycock.
I'm not going to commit any kind of "sinful" act because someone else says its wrong. I'm not going to do it because I feel that its wrong based on personal experince. (Also, keep in mind I've grown up Atheist, so please explain to me why I feel that acts such as killing is wrong? Oh and I didn't realize that people believed in "God" till I was 8, and even then, I didn't realize people took this seriously)
And so why do human beings need religion when through personal experinces, human beings do nicely with developing these moral values? Do I deny the existence of evil? No. By acknowledging that I draw a line between good or evil, I can make decisions based on what I believe to be "right". I can make decisions that would be considered sinful, but like any religious person, I can feel just as guilty for committing the act in the first place.
Its not the word "sin" or the origins from which it came from that bother me, but how its used to define certain human behavior as "evil". If lust is a sin, they why is it necessary for me to feel lust for a woman in order to sexually reproduce? Labeling actions as "unnatural" takes away any credibility that religion ever had (which isn't much). When human beings feel guilt for actions or compassion for others, remorse, and other such feelings, it leads to developing moral behavior.
The fact that you defined the word "sin" within the context of the bible and not the dictionary truly shows your mindless zealotry. If Sin=Immoratlity then 2+2 might as well equal fish.
Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee.
why is it god's buisness for me not to let my animals interbreed? inbreeding leads to genetic diseases.
sin = religeous word for breaking your books rules. Christianity has nothing to do with morality, it is obedience to your god as is a substitute for morality.
your question about why is murder wrong? because it is harming another person. NOT because the bible says it is wrong... man you have serious issues and zero morals if the only reason you dont murder is because the bible says so.
I have red hair and green eyes. My birthday is 6-6 and my mother's birthday is 8-22. In 2006 the world was supposed to end on both of our birthdays. I am The Chosen One from The Dead Sea Scrolls. The Best Friend and Son of God. Byron Heath Shavers, 1-256-599-7558, Route 2, Box 127B, Section, Jackson County, Alabama, 6518, County Road 19, Drag Strip Road, 35771.
Your argument is a little circular. Lack of morality = immorality = SIn. ONLY works if you believe in morality, and sin. Immorality, can simply be immorality. However, no belief in morals is not immorality, except to those who believe in morals. Personally I believe that "morals" come from simple survival needs and common sense tracing right back to tribal civilisation. For me, there is no right or wrong, only action and consequence.
There are thousands of ancient texts relating to God and other prophecies that were left out of the bible (decided at councils of Cathage) to better suit Jesus to fulfill all prophecies when he really only did a few. The editors at the time didn't think this would have much of an impact 2000 years from then.
Also, since the bible is a "closed canon" nothing can be added to it, no matter how applicable it may be. To summarize, many church leaders decided the bible's content, not God.
Excellent point. Christianity comes from Gnosticism. In itself the messages of christianity are ok, but the blind unquestioning fools that follow a book, that has been manipulated and edited from it`s inception, to the letter is crazy. IF there was a jesus, his true messages have been lost, or at least corrupted. Though they can be found in the eastern traditions that they originate in.
You talk alot about how christianity think that morals come from some celestial being. Christianity does not have morality, what christianity have is obedience to authority as a substitute for morals.
@MrSpleesh I feel motivated to make a Vid... ""The Love of God" or something....and then, nice, sad Music, show, with not exaggerated, but absolutely realistic violence, show short pieces from the Battlefields, Torturechambers and Burningstakes of History, where all the Love and the Peacefullness of Religions and Believers are clearly visible...
Is there a very small atheist/muslim child behind that shakey cam or what??? I must admit that i was sadly disappointed with this documentry as it failed to keep the tension built up beyond a minute and I would of assumed that a very religious and incredulous Geerup would of known the deadly sins as opposed to having to check his scripture pad. Just kiddin', i'm just here to wish you a merry christmas....sorry, a very moral existence!
I'm no atheist. I just want to say that scripture isn't really fulfilled when something written in one book (Old Testament) comes true in another book (New Testament). If I were creating a religion I would make sure the New book had things written in it that fulfilled predictions in the Old book. How could anyone prove the New book wrong? It's a dubious fulfillment to say the least.
Murder is wrong because there is a victim. You don't need it labeled as sin to see that.
Murder is counterproductive to any society since society is made up of people. Safety is one of the most basic human needs, so outlawing murder is an obvious way to ensure the people of a society's safety. Laws do not exist to define morality.
Christianity didn't have to start out as some grand conspiracy invented by mega geniuses. It was just a very small cult that snowballed out of control into a very large cult.
ok GEERUP! ive seen a few of your vids and do respect your passion... the seven deadly sins are not listed in the bible, for starts. could it not be possible that people have witnessed or been touched by these 7 behaviors? could it be assumed that fathers shared thier life experiences with their offspring and warned them? to this day i look both ways before i cross a street. my mother taught me that when i was 2.
Nevermind all the prophecy. What I love is how creationists always make light of an argument that a skeptic has by just brushing over it as to say, "those prophecy deniers", but really don't understand the argument the skeptic is even making, and really don't care to.
I'd prefer to hear how God blaming all of humanity for the sins of two people long dead is considered moral, when no human today ate any sort of knowledge fruit from Eden themselves, or had any influence on their decision to do so.
That is a point of contention with me. Why would a "loving" God curse mankind forever over gaining knowledge? Sounds like a muslim idea more than christian
1. All social organizations, including friendship, family, marriage and even society itself is based on a willingness to co-exist. Its shared ethics are based only on that willingness to co-exist.
2. Religion does not seek co-existence with those that do not follow its faith. From those that do follow its faith, it only seeks blind obedience.
3. Religion is an antithesis and a poison to any social construct that respects the rights of the individuals within it.
Certainly the bible has moral teachings but it also has amoral teachings. Im not going to chetry pick for either side. Here is my question. How do you decide which teachings to follow and which to ignore? As an example what makes thou shalt not kill different from he who works on the sabbath should be stoned to death? its simple, morality is inate in human beings and we use it when picking which teachings to follow from the bible.
Well sir, you done gone and answered your own question at around 7:17. "Christianity is the only real plausible answer for the moral depravity in our world today."
The lack of morals doesn't equal sin to me. I don't believe in sin, so it's like me telling you that the lack of pudding equals leprechaun. You might laugh and say that leprechauns don't exist. But what if I say my Leprechaun-creating god is real and I wholeheartedly believe and praise him? You'll say that's preposterous because there's no proof of his existence. Well provide an argument for why my Leprechaun god doesn't exist, that can't also be used to disprove the existence of your God. Peace
NO! Scripture was written by various fallible human beings like you and me. They wrote what they wrote for their particular cultural, political and personal reasons for their particular time in history. For you to believe that scripture is the 'word of God' is the height of gullibility. How you construe that as a "conspiracy theory" I don't know.
Sounds like Nogogma knows how to think... unlike you, Geerup.
when you say that atheist beliefs are wrong, and christianity is the only logical and sensible solution to creation and to sin, think about what your saying. Christianity is belief in a "character(s)" from a book that noone is sure of the author. When I was younger, i read Dr. suess books, so i guess there really is a "wocket in my pocket". Atheists have different ideas of what is the truth and these ideas vary, rather than the mass belief in a "character".
If I profess that I will eat a corndog tomorrow and do in fact eat a corn dog does that make me god? Jesus did not not fufill. The story of Jesus did and the evidence that the story is true is weak.
i don't believe in sin. i am a moral relativist, morality can change according the situation. what is right in one situation is not right in all situations. what is wrong in one situation is not wrong in all situations. my morality comes from my interpretation of reality. i have a moral code, you may not agree with it.
Sin is just a common mis-translation and mis-interpretation as is bound to happen when a document written in several different languages (Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Aramaic, etc) over many centuries, in fact "sin" itself is a Greek word, the *Direct* translation of which is "Missing the mark" so there is no bad or "evil" connotation, it just means your not doing something the way it should be done.
nostradamus predicted all kindsa stuff and many many more prophets
its not hard to predict something if you see the way things are and the way they are going to ..its like if you have a recipe to make lasagna and follow that recipe dont be surprised if lasagna comes out at the end ..the ancient people were connected to the abstract ..we nowadays lost our instinct and think stricktly out of REASON ..think about the mayan calendar and their precise predictions of eclipses etc..
I'm not speaking for this guy, but when I say that sin is a myth, which I do, I mean sin as in religious law. I see that any religious law requires a deity, and I have never seen evidence that a deity exists, therefor, I consider religious law, I.E. sin, to be a myth.
I'd have to bet that most atheists do not believe christianity was randomly created by "some elite group". Most people understand christianity is not original in any way and due to these clear similarities, it obviously evolved from various other religions previous to it. Whoever (individual or group) wrote it was undeniably intelligent for their time, I certainly give them credit there.
Its up to you to prove that sin is not moral, not for atheists to prove that sin is no more a construct of doctrine than the criminal codes of a state.
Lets pick one I think most people can agree on as being immoral, if not amoral - assuming you know the difference - murder.
why is "God-instigated murder just. eg Amos 1:5 "I will break down the gates of Damascus and slaughter the people in the valley of Aven[]" says the LORD.
The god you believe in is amoral and makes up rules.
You bawbag - you just spent 7 odd minutes saying absolutely nothing and sounding like a nut. N dude why are u in ur car? are you sneakin behind ur wife's back?
are these seven deadly sins really sins, well not all of them. is slothfulness or laziness a sin or just an undesired characteristic common in modern society. Surely you wouldn't go to hell for not cleaning your room
{We're pretending god exists for a second in this comment}
I dunno, man, with the things god will apparently send people to hell for, it seems rather likely that not cleaning your room would be a one-way ticket to hell.
and not driving him sitting in my vehicle making the video from my iPhone. cellphone videos tend to shake more than handy cams do the fact that they have no steady cam feature. this is a direct upload. why do atheists like yourself insult me? is this your idea of fun at someone else's expense?
You clearly replied to the wrong comment here, I'm certain you're talking to vividDrive, but that's just too good of a comment to ignore.
Why do we attack you? Well, for one, it's easy. You people always dig yourselves holes that you can't get out of. Also, you make mistakes and are unwilling to give up your sinful pride long enough to admit it (I'm an atheist and I do that.. you have proof right under this comment!) and most importantly... you guys attack us. Why would we not respond?
do you believe there is a real accountability in the end? DO you believe sin truly exists and is not a myth? and why as an atheist are you obsessed with proselytizing your ideology?
No. I've also never claimed to believe in sin--at least, not since I left church. My use of the word sinful here was to remind you that you are sinning (breaking the rules that define your religion) by not relenting on mistakes that you have made because your pride gets in the way.
As for your other comment, I think you meant to type "minutiae".
Oh, also, why haven't you responded to my private message, but you have time to answer all these comments?
why are christians so obsessed with proselyting? we atheists are sick of illogical arguments that require no proof whatsoever, while the bibles morality is all over the map. open your eyes and think for 2 seconds instead of blindly reciting inconsistent dogma.
Don't talk about "proselytizing your ideology" when that's exactly what you are doing. Atheists like to insult you because you insult them by calling them "conspiracy theorists" and the like.
Also quite frankly, your creationist ideas are an "insult" to human intelligence and common sense.
You can keep doing what your doing. It's a free country. But don't pretend to be the victim here when you bring all the negativity upon yourself.
he seemed to be preoccupied with faultfinding as a product of evolutionary meaninglessness and why is it people like yourself are obsessed with minutia?
morals are not the opposite of "sin" perhaps a better meaning of morality is common sense. morals are made from our environment and experiences in life, so for example if you parents tell you murder is wrong and you see the effects on loved ones of the murdered it becomes obvious it is wrong, that can happen with or without religeon as religeon is not intrinsic to morality (or better put common sense). When it comes down to it "good" and "evil" is simply a point of view.
you can't have it both ways, the Bible cannot be true in some areas and false and others. either at the whole biblical canon which is comprised of 66 books written over a great span of time by 44 different authors all agreeing with one another and pointing to a centralized subject matter which surrounds the deity of Christ and our salvation through his obedience of laying his life down for our sins. That is the ultimate thread that must be grappled with and why I'm a Christian.
still you argue for an ultimate starting point of truth. one must have a foundational starting point in order to say something is incorrect or has deviated. deviated from what? we actually have access to original parchments. The entire book of Isaiah and original fragments of other books confirm the reliability of modern-day versions. and you can use technology to search all of this out for yourself. very sophisticated cross-reference Bible programs are available to the true researcher.
again you still have a problem here deviated from what? from the original.. the original can be checked and what does it say at its heart God exists and he has shown his love towards men through Jesus Christ. that's the ultimate message here thank you for participating in the comments section.
.......and this is why , when I see anyone talk about deviating from the Bible, who already HAS deviated from the Bible, speaking about people who deviatee from the Bible......"sinning" and ignoring what JC said in Matthew 6:5, and Rev 22:18, overiding it with a Pauline letter somwhere....
So when you speak of "sinning", there's another church down the road whose viewpoints are not yours.
You will call them a heathen, and they will call you a heathen, and the atheists just don't care about if JC was "God" or not, celebrating Christmas or not, or listening to heavy metal music or not.
So, personally, I think you should direct your video more to those who have these particular issues, because I am sure atheists and the like, do not have them.
MrRepzion thank you brother I want to also commend you for your great work and labor of love. I appreciate your support and the video responses. continued the good fight in May God richly bless you.
I wouldn't call the Bible written by a very intelligent group of manipulative people, ..... in a conspiracy.
However, I would call it ancient writing that in those days WERE considered only intelligent for their time.
Today it reads as a Clash of the Titans.
However it can be used by preachers to manipulate people. You know. A twist here , a fib there, and voila you got people killing in the name of that God.
However, it throws me off how you yourself can even think that atheists and the like, think of the Bible as intelligent, conspiratory, and manipulative, when we both know.....it's the people that are.
That fact has been displayed over and over and is still being displayed.
7:14 As for the "moral depravity of today"... I don't know what imaginary world you're living in but, as far as the objective facts go, we're living in humanity's golden age and things are only getting better.
Everything, from social justice to education to human rights to reducing hunger and poverty, is steadily improving. We don't live in a time of decline... and I can't imagine why you think we do.
Maybe if we lived in the dark ages you'd have a case.
As per your "if murder is wrong, why?" question... I know you've been told why murder is wrong from a completely naturalistic point of view before so I won't reiterate. I'd just like to point out that you're being disingenuous when you pretend like there is no answer... you've heard the answer... I'm sorry you didn't like it.
3:58 That's just the problem... we (whether you mean just you and I or the whole of humanity) DON'T share the same morals. We're not on the same page. I'm sure there are things that you've done that would be against my morality and vice versa.
If god made us moral beings (like you said he did), why aren't our morals uniform? Instead every culture has different morals and every individual within each culture has at least subtly different morals. It's almost like morals AREN'T objective.
And what... you're somehow NOT a conspiracy theorist when it comes to EVERY OTHER RELIGION apart from your own? Yet somehow we atheists are the biggest conspiracy theorists... why? We just go one god further than you do.
The bible is not the shining masterpiece you make it out to be. Take off the bible glasses and you will see the horrible and countless problems and contradictions. It wasn't built by a master-mind group. I can see how this would escape someone who cannot comprehend evolution. Small changes (made by accident or intentionally) when copied add up to LARGE changes over time. Every time a scribe noticed something 'wrong' and corrected it refined your bible one small step at a time. prophecy is a joke
It only baffles you because you don't know the bible. Ask a priest, pastor or any religious christian leader who's gone to a decent school to learn their book.
Most likely they will avoid your questions. Next likely they will lie to you to protect your faith. If they are worth a nickle they will at least tell you a watered down version of the truth.
There are no clear prophecies written before the event that came true. Nostradamus is far more impressive and still unconvincing.
Sin is just a term for doing something bad. It has a religious tone and generally includes things that theists believe are bad (like collecting sticks on Sunday)
Morals are obvious. You cannot have a society without them. This argument is old and pathetic. Where is the ape bible to explain ape morals? Where is the wolf bible? Any social group has a set of "morals" Ours are more complex because WE are more complex. They came from the same place.
True, god has killed 3 million people not including the flood; does that make us have more morality than the magic man in the sky? or does he simply not exist?
I cant believe I was once a catholic however, I am no longer suffering from Psychosis
So than, should we go on to sin? By no means. Read a little further...Romans 6:1-14
Freedom in Christ is freedom from not only God's wrath, but from sinning; that is, we have been 'unshackled'. Sanctification is the 'maturing' of a believer in Christ. We were given His Righteousness and Holiness as He took our sin...yet we still sin, though we ought to become more and more like Christ until the day in which He finishes the good work He began in us.
Sins = specifically forbidden activities by doctrine.
Immorality can be defined in terms that are completely non-religious. For instance: "Immoral actions are actions that either produce gain from the loss of others or cause more harm to individuals and community than gain."
An example where a 'sin' isn't immoral: making pride a sin to the degree Christianity does effectively treats hubris and pride as the same thing, which they're not. Pride in achievement spurs more achievement.
Google the words " morals definition" and be sure to use more that one dictionary site.
god doesn't occupy any definition of morals.
You learn morals (right from wrong) from the society your born in, it's the staple of many societies therefore whats moral in the USA might be different in Saudi Arabia.
Sin according to the biblical definition is the act of breaking the law, Paul stated that where there is no law, sin is not imputed. It is lot like saying that you cannot break a law that does not exist. Therefore according to the bible with the ending of the law covenant brings the end of sins... Sin is not being bad... Gathering sticks on the sabbath was not being bad or evil but was breaking the law... SIN. Sin does not exist since the bible is not real.
Nothing has led to more deaths than religion and probably the biggest two were Christians and their Crusades and Muslims and their Jihad I'd like to ship both groups off to a part of the world where they could fight it out and leave everyone else alone.
"Christianity is the only real, plausible answer for the moral depravity in our world today."
Best line in the entire video, although probably not intended to be so.
Sin is a primarily religious term. It includes elements of morality, true, but definitions handed down from "ON HIGH". This on highness is based on facts not in evidence Milord.
The dumb man was a Christian, now is an Atheist...What an idiot maybe if he kept his head out of his hands and into his Bible he would know this truth...
I have noticed and this may not matter........Ive not had a well wish from more than one fellow christian (whom i just recently met).........tho all of my well wishes seem to be from those christians judge (& I AM CHRISTIAN)..it just reminds me why so many fall away..christ loved all.......spent time with all.& the only ones he judged openly were those who thought they were better than others (those in charge of religion at that time, the pharisees and the sagisees). Geerup you are Good :)
Stoic...Ra never protected anyone, never will because this is worship of a star, which does what its told and nothing more. Isis, never helped anyone but herself, and never showed herself to anyone because..she did not care about anyone aside herself...is that the demi-god youd rather worship than the ONLY real GOD there is, which requires responsibility on your part? .people willa accept ANY demi-god in order to think theyll never be held responsible, but they WILL BE :) and thats a GOOD thing
GOD is NOT religion :) GOD does Not crumble, is inconquerable and Cannot and will not ever be replaced by *imaginations*. Everyone KNOWS the TRUTH, whether they are willing to accept that TRUTH ot not, period :)
Stoicsquirrel: Your comment points out the primary reason that I became an atheist in the first place. Even a cursory examination of history reveals that when societies collapse, the institution of religion almost always collapses with it. Eventually, the old religion is replaced with a new one; completely made up by someone who just knows how to work an audience (think Saul of Tsarsis). So, gods come and gods go. Yeah, yeah, I know. This time, for god X, its gonna be different.
Sin is most certainly not a myth. However, sin has to be evaluated within a specific cultural context. Are you aware of the diversity of cultures that you address when you post a new video? America is currently undergoing a profound demographic change. Further, the real Americans of this continent were met with a horrific act of genocide. So how do you intend to explain your concept of sin and morality to the remainder of the Sioux nation? How receptive do you think that they will be?
You seem to have forgotten that we are a society of laws (however selectively enforced). So, in the absence of eternal damnation, the morality of an atheist is defined by the community and its supporting legal system, which you yourself participate in when you vote. It appears that even indirectly forcing your morality on others through the social systems of your community is not a satisfactory result. This can be attributed to nothing more than ethnocentricity.
So youre the replacement for venomfangX. Charming handle, by the way. Well, you have some very small shoes to fill. Not only did that snotty young man NOT have all the answers, he doesnt know all the questions yet. Which brings us to the final point. Perhaps you should seriously consider replacing yourself. Hear me out. The reasons that you use to advance Christianity are not compelling. In fact they make me want to flee. You are hurting your cause and creating bad blood in the process.
Sin is manifested in the human body along with its effects in the form of endogenous retroviruses (ERV'S) which, along with a decompressed atmosphere serve as age limiters.
hey, can you answer me one question about Genesis 4? Where did the wife of Cain come from if Cain was the only living son of Adam and Eve after he killed his brother Abel? I somehow don't get it?
lol - i agreed with the written definition - so, signing off - but nice eyebrows and eyes...wow - if other people can get such a reaction from you, then you can never have control of your feelings - always the victim of the whims of others - must be terrible for you.
1.We talk a bible... but which? I know of several different versions. =/
2. The Bible doesn't cover all wrong doings a person can do. So how do you determine if what you are doing is wrong? What if you don't feel guilt? at all?
3. What happens when by all logic you disagree with the Bible and thinks it is wrong? What do you do?
.. And I can think of more.. So please spend me a private message with response. I would love to hear responses and answers.
Hey, I have a serious question that may sound sarcastic or something, but it isn't. I am 14 years old, and this asshole is such a dumbass (if he even believes this bullshit), that even I could put up a pwnage video against him. I may find the time to, I may not, but my dilenma is this: I may make a few mistakes and say things that aren't true in my videos. In fact, I probably would. Is him getting pwned by a teenager worth giving them something to quote mine and say all atheists believe?

Your "God" gave us our moral sense which allow us to "sin".

roman emperor Constantine was the first to turn to accept christianity. But information doesnt matter to you, you simply believe what you want to believe!

greed - taking more than your fair share and not contributing.

I can have morality without sin because I define things that are, and are not discussed in scripture as wrong completely independent to the fiction of god.
dookiecheez 1 year ago
CrossTheGrigori 1 year ago
Well, we don't have shared morals. Look at how many people argue over what is moral! Sin is also a western concept. Easten theology doesn't have sin. Wrong doing is undesirable actions. Sin only exists in YOUR religion and it's branches, so trying to force that concept on the rest of the world doesn't jive. Eastern thought would say there is yin and yang in all things, a balance of light and dark, both are needed and both are good. So your argument is without merit for all non christians.

We justify our morality with different means. We justify it through either self-improvement, compassion for others, what will make everyone involved at least somewhat happy, or what will make the world a better place. You justify your morality through fear of burning forever, and a better place for yourself in heaven after you die. Who's more selfless here?

How is it possible to have morals by some naturalistic means? It's called a brain.
No, sin isn't "lack of morals", it's "transgression of divine law". Look it up for yourself.
I justify my morality because I know right from wrong. I know that it's wrong to do thinks like lie, steal or murder, so I don't do them. Simple.
We are moral beings because without morals, society would break down, not because some imaginary being sprinkled some morality pixie dust on us.
Immorality doesn't equal sin.
autumnsylver 1 year ago
It doesn't take a mastermind to figure out that if you threaten someone with horrible punishment (in this case hell), it's easier to make them do what you want. Parents do it with children all the time.
Of course humans have morals without god. The human race wouldn't have survived long enough for there to *be* a bible if we didn't. We would have killed each other a long time ago.
A majority of the wars in history were caused by religion. Just something to think about.
autumnsylver 1 year ago
I'm atheist, I don't think that an "elite group of geniuses" created the bible, no in fact they were regular people trying to understand their surroundings and create a society.
Morality is natural, you can see it throughout the animal kingdom, what the writers of the bible did is take their natural morality and write a rule book for it, I wonder do you honestly believe that before the bible there was no morality, poppycock.
Hoggie6000 1 year ago
I'm not going to commit any kind of "sinful" act because someone else says its wrong. I'm not going to do it because I feel that its wrong based on personal experince. (Also, keep in mind I've grown up Atheist, so please explain to me why I feel that acts such as killing is wrong? Oh and I didn't realize that people believed in "God" till I was 8, and even then, I didn't realize people took this seriously)
lamjer68 1 year ago
And so why do human beings need religion when through personal experinces, human beings do nicely with developing these moral values? Do I deny the existence of evil? No. By acknowledging that I draw a line between good or evil, I can make decisions based on what I believe to be "right". I can make decisions that would be considered sinful, but like any religious person, I can feel just as guilty for committing the act in the first place.
lamjer68 1 year ago
Its not the word "sin" or the origins from which it came from that bother me, but how its used to define certain human behavior as "evil". If lust is a sin, they why is it necessary for me to feel lust for a woman in order to sexually reproduce? Labeling actions as "unnatural" takes away any credibility that religion ever had (which isn't much). When human beings feel guilt for actions or compassion for others, remorse, and other such feelings, it leads to developing moral behavior.
lamjer68 1 year ago
@lamjer68 lust is not what you are explaining it to be. That is natural attraction.

It's not very hard to have morals through, what you call, "naturalistic means".
It's simple,
Don't do something you see as unacceptable.
People are capable of making their own decisions. If it's the "wrong" decision, they learn from the consequences don't they?
For example:
A man doesn't think murder is right... he doesn't commit murder.
Simple is it not?

I'm no atheist. I just want to say that scripture isn't really fulfilled when something written in one book (Old Testament) comes true in another book (New Testament). 2. Religion does not seek co-existence with those that do not follow its faith. From those that do follow its faith, it only seeks blind obedience.

when you say that atheist beliefs are wrong, and christianity is the only logical and sensible solution to creation and to sin, think about what your saying. Christianity is belief in a "character(s)" from a book that noone is sure of the author. When I was younger, i read Dr. suess books, so i guess there really is a "wocket in my pocket". Atheists have different ideas of what is the truth and these ideas vary, rather than the mass belief in a "character".

Most of our morality comes from natural selection. Those who didn't cooperate died out, and those who cooperated lived on.
I guess the one way you could question the validity of natural selection is to ask why you're still around, GEERUP.

Why would we not respond?
since1876 2 years ago
do you believe there is a real accountability in the end? DO you believe sin truly exists and is not a myth? and why as an atheist are you obsessed with proselytizing your ideology?
GEERUP 2 years ago
Oh, also, why haven't you responded to my private message, but you have time to answer all these comments?
since1876 2 years ago
why are christians so obsessed with proselyting? we atheists are sick of illogical arguments that require no proof whatsoever, while the bibles morality is all over the map. open your eyes and think for 2 seconds instead of blindly reciting inconsistent dogma.
elilichtenberg 2 years ago 2
Don't talk about "proselytizing your ideology" when that's exactly what you are doing. Atheists like to insult you because you insult them by calling them "conspiracy theorists" and the like.
Also quite frankly, your creationist ideas are an "insult" to human intelligence and common sense.
You can keep doing what your doing. It's a free country. But don't pretend to be the victim here when you bring all the negativity upon yourself.
Starbat88 2 years ago
he seemed to be preoccupied with faultfinding as a product of evolutionary meaninglessness and why is it people like yourself are obsessed with minutia?
GEERUP 2 years ago
morals are not the opposite of "sin" perhaps a better meaning of morality is common sense. morals are made from our environment and experiences in life, so for example if you parents tell you murder is wrong and you see the effects on loved ones of the murdered it becomes obvious it is wrong, that can happen with or without religeon as religeon is not intrinsic to morality (or better put common sense). When it comes down to it "good" and "evil" is simply a point of view.

In Christianity,a "sin"is whatever their pastor says it is, because down the road the next pastor will be saying it's not.
fonna 2 years ago 2
you can't have it both ways, the Bible cannot be true in some areas and false and others. either at the whole biblical canon which is comprised of 66 books written over a great span of time by 44 different authors all agreeing with one another and pointing to a centralized subject matter which surrounds the deity of Christ and our salvation through his obedience of laying his life down for our sins. That is the ultimate thread that must be grappled with and why I'm a Christian.
GEERUP 2 years ago
Of course you can't have it both ways.
You can't even have it 5 different ways, subdivided into at least 100 different ways each.
And I'm speaking of the 100's of ways Christianity is divided with all their own special rules and regs.
You , Geerup, are a member of one group in hundreds, whose views vary.
Each one says they're the True Christian and the other false. Same story.
So my post still stands and now magnified even more..
And yes, you do agree.
fonna 2 years ago
still you argue for an ultimate starting point of truth. one must have a foundational starting point in order to say something is incorrect or has deviated. deviated from what? we actually have access to original parchments. The entire book of Isaiah and original fragments of other books confirm the reliability of modern-day versions. and you can use technology to search all of this out for yourself. very sophisticated cross-reference Bible programs are available to the true researcher.
GEERUP 2 years ago
@GEERUP
You have to tell your deviated church , who deviated, about the deviation.
This is a Christian issue.
We know where it all began. Council of Nicea.
fonna 2 years ago 2
@GEERUP
And the oldest Bible on record is the Codex Sinaiticus.. Check it out and see how "deviated" ALL the modern Bibles are today.
fonna 2 years ago
again you still have a problem here deviated from what? from the original.. the original can be checked and what does it say at its heart God exists and he has shown his love towards men through Jesus Christ. that's the ultimate message here thank you for participating in the comments section.
GEERUP 2 years ago
Am I blocked yet?
Just testing.
fonna 2 years ago
@GEERUP
I I have no idea why you think you have to assist me in some decision or clarify to me, your reasoning, why God exists..
Sin is what the religion says it is. Isn't this the subject title.....Sin?? Let's try another pathway:
Why do you think the oldest Bible known, the Codex Sinaiticus, is different from today's Bibles, and spawned 100's of Christian denominations?
They deviated, including you.
KJV made in 1611, is not even close to the original.
fonna 2 years ago
.......and this is why , when I see anyone talk about deviating from the Bible, who already HAS deviated from the Bible, speaking about people who deviatee from the Bible......"sinning" and ignoring what JC said in Matthew 6:5, and Rev 22:18, overiding it with a Pauline letter somwhere....
I chuckle.
I ask myself:
fonna 2 years ago
So when you speak of "sinning", there's another church down the road whose viewpoints are not yours.
You will call them a heathen, and they will call you a heathen, and the atheists just don't care about if JC was "God" or not, celebrating Christmas or not, or listening to heavy metal music or not.
So, personally, I think you should direct your video more to those who have these particular issues, because I am sure atheists and the like, do not have them.

Well Geerup,
I wouldn't call the Bible written by a very intelligent group of manipulative people, ..... in a conspiracy.
However, I would call it ancient writing that in those days WERE considered only intelligent for their time.
Today it reads as a Clash of the Titans.
However it can be used by preachers to manipulate people. You know. A twist here , a fib there, and voila you got people killing in the name of that God.
fonna 2 years ago 2
However, it throws me off how you yourself can even think that atheists and the like, think of the Bible as intelligent, conspiratory, and manipulative, when we both know.....it's the people that are.
That fact has been displayed over and over and is still being displayed.
fonna 2 years ago
7:14 As for the "moral depravity of today"... I don't know what imaginary world you're living in but, as far as the objective facts go, we're living in humanity's golden age and things are only getting better.
Everything, from social justice to education to human rights to reducing hunger and poverty, is steadily improving. We don't live in a time of decline... and I can't imagine why you think we do.
Maybe if we lived in the dark ages you'd have a case.
jussts 2 years ago
As per your "if murder is wrong, why?" question... I know you've been told why murder is wrong from a completely naturalistic point of view before so I won't reiterate. I'd just like to point out that you're being disingenuous when you pretend like there is no answer... you've heard the answer... I'm sorry you didn't like it.
jussts 2 years ago
3:58 That's just the problem... we (whether you mean just you and I or the whole of humanity) DON'T share the same morals. We're not on the same page. I'm sure there are things that you've done that would be against my morality and vice versa.
If god made us moral beings (like you said he did), why aren't our morals uniform? Instead every culture has different morals and every individual within each culture has at least subtly different morals. It's almost like morals AREN'T objective.
jussts 2 years ago
And what... you're somehow NOT a conspiracy theorist when it comes to EVERY OTHER RELIGION apart from your own? Yet somehow we atheists are the biggest conspiracy theorists... why? We just go one god further than you do.
jussts 2 years ago
Sin must be a myth.
If sin is not a myth then god cannot exists as a perfect system.
If god is not perfect then god is not god.
So ... either a: Sin is a myth or b: God is a myth.
Either way ... everything is fine.

Every time a scribe noticed something 'wrong' and corrected it refined your bible one small step at a time. prophecy is a joke
sfg911 2 years ago
lol what contradictions do you speak of?
and how is prophecy a joke when it comes true? that baffles me haha
kyleharper16 2 years ago
It only baffles you because you don't know the bible. Ask a priest, pastor or any religious christian leader who's gone to a decent school to learn their book.
Most likely they will avoid your questions. Next likely they will lie to you to protect your faith. If they are worth a nickle they will at least tell you a watered down version of the truth.
There are no clear prophecies written before the event that came true. Nostradamus is far more impressive and still unconvincing.
sfg911 2 years ago
Um i do know the Bible? haha i read it everyday buddy.
and there are manyyyyyyy prophecies that have come true. And are still coming true today.
Try learning your material before you look like an idiot
kyleharper16 2 years ago
That's strange. I get my information directly from a top biblical historian. He doesn't agree with you. You must know more? Where did you study?
Name one prophecy written before the fact that came true. Please provide exact clear passages and your reasons for believing it.
sfg911 2 years ago
Sin is just a term for doing something bad. It has a religious tone and generally includes things that theists believe are bad (like collecting sticks on Sunday)
Morals are obvious. You cannot have a society without them. This argument is old and pathetic. Where is the ape bible to explain ape morals? Where is the wolf bible? Any social group has a set of "morals" Ours are more complex because WE are more complex. They came from the same place.

LozTheAtheist 2 years ago
I have a question that has confused me relating to sin and Christianity.
1John 3:4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
So sin is transgressing the Mosaic Law
Romans 10:4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth. So the Law is no more.
Romans 5:13 For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law. So no law..no sin.
So why bother about what doesn't exist?
Ebal
ebaltrace 2 years ago
So than, should we go on to sin? By no means. Read a little further...Romans 6:1-14
Freedom in Christ is freedom from not only God's wrath, but from sinning; that is, we have been 'unshackled'. Sanctification is the 'maturing' of a believer in Christ. We were given His Righteousness and Holiness as He took our sin...yet we still sin, though we ought to become more and more like Christ until the day in which He finishes the good work He began in us.
OwnedByJesus 2 years ago
Sins = specifically forbidden activities by doctrine.
Immorality can be defined in terms that are completely non-religious. For instance: "Immoral actions are actions that either produce gain from the loss of others or cause more harm to individuals and community than gain."
An example where a 'sin' isn't immoral: making pride a sin to the degree Christianity does effectively treats hubris and pride as the same thing, which they're not. Pride in achievement spurs more achievement.
Tigranis 2 years ago
Yo Geerup.
Sin is not defined as a lack of morals.
Sin is a product of religious doctrine.
Atheist don't believe scripture is a conspiracy.
Google the words " morals definition" and be sure to use more that one dictionary site.
god doesn't occupy any definition of morals.
You learn morals (right from wrong) from the society your born in, it's the staple of many societies therefore whats moral in the USA might be different in Saudi Arabia.
mrcoldheart 2 years ago
Sin according to the biblical definition is the act of breaking the law, Paul stated that where there is no law, sin is not imputed. It is lot like saying that you cannot break a law that does not exist. Therefore according to the bible with the ending of the law covenant brings the end of sins... Sin is not being bad... Gathering sticks on the sabbath was not being bad or evil but was breaking the law... SIN. Sin does not exist since the bible is not real.

Why is it wrong to be a skeptic when there is no way to know the truth?
Morality is a social construct that changes over time. It has nothing to do with sin.

Sin is a primarily religious term. It includes elements of morality, true, but definitions handed down from "ON HIGH". This on highness is based on facts not in evidence Milord.

This time, for god X, its gonna be different.
xhalor 2 years ago
Sin is most certainly not a myth. However, sin has to be evaluated within a specific cultural context. Are you aware of the diversity of cultures that you address when you post a new video? America is currently undergoing a profound demographic change. Further, the real Americans of this continent were met with a horrific act of genocide. So how do you intend to explain your concept of sin and morality to the remainder of the Sioux nation? How receptive do you think that they will be?
xhalor 2 years ago
You seem to have forgotten that we are a society of laws (however selectively enforced). So, in the absence of eternal damnation, the morality of an atheist is defined by the community and its supporting legal system, which you yourself participate in when you vote. It appears that even indirectly forcing your morality on others through the social systems of your community is not a satisfactory result. This can be attributed to nothing more than ethnocentricity.
xhalor 2 years ago
So youre the replacement for venomfangX. Charming handle, by the way. Well, you have some very small shoes to fill. Not only did that snotty young man NOT have all the answers, he doesnt know all the questions yet. Which brings us to the final point. Perhaps you should seriously consider replacing yourself.
