Merle Watson would turn over in his grave knowing he never got to see this band, for this band is what Merlefest is all about, the mix of old-time and new music, Doc himself claims to love TAB.
Yo, I love the Avett Brothers. They are the first type of Bluegrass I heard and because of them, I started searching for the older bluegrass or the "true" bluegrass. They are all great musicians and this type of music is just a variation. You can't limit artists to a certain genre or put limits on their performances. If you truly appreciate bluegrass you will embrace all forms, it doesn't mean that you have to like it, just give respect.
I'm sick of people saying stuff like this. I'm from the UK and had never listened to anything resembling bluegrass in my life. We lived in NC for 2 years and because of the Avett Brothers, we then started branching out and listening to more "pure" bluegrass and have since been adding to my collection.
We've since been to Merlefest twice, something we would NEVER had done had we not come across the Avett Brothers.
Sorry dude, they is from Mt. Pleasant! We got to have something and these guys are great. Did you see their show here a few years ago, right before they really started making a name for themselves? It was great.
