  • I wonder if this technology can also detect suppressed weapons? Obviously as this technology is used in more cities it will create a black market for gun silencers that gang members will no doubt get a hold of which would render this technology obsolete.

  • Very cool stuff....

  • Fucken assholes can't even shoot anymore :-(

  • step one: get gun with a silencer.

    that's it.

  • @olesto surpressed weapons r still pretty loud tho

  • there are unconfirmed reports that this technology is under development to protect military bases in Afghanistan, supposedly it'll even provide accurate coordinates for artillery and air strikes so we can blow up any insurgents who attack our bases

  • so, it doesn't just detect gun shots . hmmmm ...

what else can be detected i wonder ? peoples conversations ?

  • Yes police man you are a tool (he said we are tools) jk

  • The system is highly prone to false positives! Waste of money.

  • @dayingyang0 The dispatch gets to hear what the sensors hear... So, why is it a waste of money again?

  • @mattyohe - what part of false positive don't you understand? These systems are leased to the police departments at absurdly high annual rates and result in a large number of false positives, hence the waste of money.

  • @dayingyang0 Sure it has some false positives, but it also does lead to arrests in cases where the system accurately reports the gunshots. What would it take for this to not be a waste of money?

  • fuck big brother

  • Just buy a re verb amp and use it to send out sounds.

  • It surely is a smart technology, ubt I see how authorities invade people's privacy always for the reason of security. I mean if they can find out the position of a firecracker blowing up what will they be able to do with even advanced technology? You can use this technology, but it should be transparent and always controlled.

  • What about useing a supressor (that includes plastic bottles.)

  • Big brother has found yet another way to track and subjugate us.

  • Wow, another great way to spy on the citizens. Mind police coming soon :)

  • I had no freakin idea these items were in use since 95! They are using it to investigate a plane crash in East Palo Alto CA. Feb. 18. 3 Tesla Motors employees died.

  • Well, that or more dead people to come. your pick.

  • hahaha, your a funny...thing...you sure sound "superior" to black people...kudos

  • @nicolas1999444 in front of a black man, i do feel inferior too. dont worry, they come in peace

  • i'll just use silencers when killing racist piece of shits like you

  • they dont sell silencer, its illegal

  • @BlAhHaDaBoY123 they don't sell sawed offs either but you can make or buy one from the Black Market, and silencers too.

  • @BlAhHaDaBoY123 incorect you can get a silencer but they are regulated as class 3 legal if you have the fbi back ground check finger prints the whole 9 yards witch means if you do something stupid with it the law enforcement people knaw where to go and shame on you if it gets stolen out of your gun valt and used befor you report it and the investigation removes all doubt that you were not involved in the theft of your property even so you will morethan likely never own another class 3 device

  • @BlAhHaDaBoY123 - silencers (i.e. suppressors) are not illegal in most states! They just require extra paper work and additional fees.

  • I don't think criminals can blame the weapons price raise as one of their motive to commit more crime... that is total bullshit. People commit crime because of various reasons: either based on their own will, environment pressure, peer pressure or perhaps threaten by other factors. However, majority of shooting happened in North America are just for the sake of killing. A lot of suspects had no motive to rob the victim but just want to fire gunshots at him/her.

  • Where is this majority at in the U.S. , I'll stay away for sure. So they ends up shooting each other; how sad.

  • I think a easier way to solve this problem is just to restrict the # of hand guns Americans have

  • Restricting guns would only worsen the problem. Its all economics really. Many criminals are going to want guns, but if a restriction is put on guns, their street prices will rise. This rise in price will cause criminals to commit more crimes in order to pay for weapons. This will likely just make things worse for everyone.

  • true, but a real criminal will get a gun when he wants it no mater the quantity available, in other words guns would most likely be taken off the hands of people that just have them, but no real change to guns in the hands of criminals

  • @supersal001 Yeah I agree about the real criminal will do whatever he can (but then for the amateaur it will be hard for them). I know that up here where I live in Canada there is not as much gun crime, but there is still a good number of crime with knifes (i.e. the hunting knifes). Up here it's really hard to get a hand gun (cuz of the regulations) and if someone does get a hold of a hand gun it's usually smuggled across the border. But in regard to knifes it's like it's the 2nd choice

  • @loucious22 just like the restriction on drugs has freed the streets of drugs?

  • they use something like this to locate snipers in Iraq after a shots been fired

  • can it pick up someone getting their skull caved in with a wooden bat? i think not....

  • your point?..unless a bat sounds like a gun shot, then the gunshot detector may not detect it

  • good lookin out for all of us.

  • >>>this is brilliant

  • This would probably pick up my potato cannon...

  • Something tells me there will soon be a huge market for gun suppressors and silencers in Richmond.

  • I don't think that the persons using guns for such crimes in richmond are advanced enough to acquire them.

  • As someone who lives in this area and was recently a victim of a violent robbery on the street, I support this. Even though I do buy into a lot of the government conspiracy stuff, I don't reject this particular initiative.

  • Lets see, gunshots fired, find a victim, arrive on the scene faster than somebody can call 9/11, victim is saved. Folks who disagree with this are probably people who desire to fire their guns in cities and not be known. AKA criminals

  • Great! More communist tools to be used by treasonous cops that just follow orders, never mind that oath. never any mention on what drives people to do this, that might put someone or something in a bad light, instead lets call them bad guys, build more prisons a dream up more ridiculous laws so a person cannot walk out the front door without breaking some law, our military and law officers need to tell those idiots Washington DC enough is enough!

  • Yeah, right. King and queen of Europe. Exactly.

  • I could just see this being featured in a tv show or something, but in a way that totally exposes how flawed it is... can you say organized hit? have a group of peeps fire a blank shot in 10 different locations and you have all of the dispatchers sending their patrolmen away from a where it matters! huzzah, you have the plot for a CSI episode lol.

  • No need to pick up casing or worry about GSR if you put your weapon in a plastic grocery bag before you fire. Silencers dont silence. They muffle and distort the sound. The action of the weapon makes a loud distinct noise that cant be changed.

  • Ban guns you american fools!!!!

  • why? So only the government has guns? We all know how well that works with governments ... Fool

  • what a shooter, kills the guy and sits around on the roof top.

  • Stop the madness!!!

  • Comment removed

  • there is one flaw with this. identifying the person responsible. a camera would do better justice. yeah thats right i said it. put those cameras EVERYWHERE! if you r not a criminal than you wouldnt care. as long as its in public areas (not private) you'll be fine.

  • No thanks retard ... let's put them in your house! If you're not a criminal then you wouldn't care.

  • they wouldnt do that thanks to dip shits like you

  • I'll take that as a compliment. If you want cameras and the gov in your business every second of everyday, then move to europe where your wet dream is already a reality with cameras EVERYWHERE ...

  • well see thats where your pin head ceases to exist. They are in public... much like your local department of motor vehicles monitors the highway. But you fail to realize that.

  • Oh I do REALIZE that, I live in Arizona, Cameras on every park, street corner and building not just the highways pin head

  • and your safer that way. if you wanna fuss, take it up with your local department. They are the ones with those bright ideas, not obama... or wherever you were going with this...

  • So you thought this was about your savior Nobama? Wow, you been smokin too much shit... go back to playin music and partying ... let the grown folks discuss this ...

  • SAFER? That's a fucking joke right? Response times are actually LONGER now that these are installed cause now the pigs are sitting around jerkin eachother instead of doin their jobs.

  • okay fine... carry a goddamn gun. who cares? just you... with your fantasies of "blowing someone away". Alright Charles Bronson, do it.

  • >" if you r not a criminal than you wouldnt care."

Contrary to popular authoritarian belief - valuing your privacy is not actually a criminal trait.

If you disagree, ask yourself this: Why do you choose to wear clothing?

  • Maybe in England. But that's the only European country where this has become reality. Europe is a loose alliance of independent countries (not like the USA which are pretty much a country of their own), you cannot generalize things. It's something I noticed a lot of Americans like to do.

  • They should put a sensor on the top of every telephone pole.

  • wow nice..

  • more tax dollars being spent.

  • This could be boosted to detect sexual moaning sounds to find rape activity and gangbangs lol

Also this would boost the illegal sales of suppressors.

  • LMAO!

  • Gotta use suppresors now.

    Gief

  • This is military technology, used to find snipers. This device has no business in u.s. cities. This has big brother written all over it. This is how they control the masses.

  • @maximouni DOn't be so paranoid. It has nothing to do with big brother.

I'm sure if you or one of your loved ones was shot and died because emergency crews couldn't find the victim till hours later (it happens) and the gunman was never arrested, you'd wish your city had it.

  • Why should there be gunshots in cities anyways?

  • what if bad guys use silencers or 2 litre soda bottle in front of barrel with small hole at front for bullet exit? THERE WILL BE NO SOUND AT ALL WHY IS SO MUCH CRIME IN USA ?

  • You know what, I have no idea why there aren't more silencers used. I'm not advocating for them, I"m just saying that criminals who don't use them are stupid. Its also stupid for criminals to work without ski masks and gloves. The last thing that could let them get away with it is to use long tweezers to retrieve the bullet, and also pick up the shell casing. I seriously don't get why more criminals don't do that.

  • do it know wut gun was shot?

  • hehe its a firecracker...and yeah right its a smart tech!

  • looks like a real life GTA..

when you fire a gun then u will hear a police radio.. lol xD

  • Yes I think that too. This tehnology can be soon expanded to monitor, what people talking about. So they can prevent someone talking against president or someone like him! That is american democracy!

  • People should start firing blanks to troll them.

  • that's actually a GREAT idea ... great way to keep them guessing

  • All that technology and yet they are too dumb to understand that a semi-automatic rifle is NOT an assault rifle.

Why if I didn't know better I'd say it was intentional stupidity...but...naaaaaah.

  • First step in audio surveillance of civilians. This is just a good excuse to implement it.

  • Audacity lol?

  • This should be an everyday technology for troops in Afghanistan and Iraq... is the Pentagon so stupid as not to employ thousands of these immediately... no wonder we're losing the war over there. Support out troops with the best and latest technology...

  • Mate if you watch the video it needs sensors on top of buildings every block, not possible to deploy something like that over whole countries.

  • tech is already in use in combat zones, they use mobile mounted units, already been covered on Weaponology and other History channel shows

  • i`d say the future started around 2007 or 2008, anyone agree?

  • ye lol

  • Yeah i would say so also.

  • Once you get to firecrackes louder than 110db (M-80) there is no way that the system can filter it out, unless it works like a sniper locator, which the bullet would litaerally have to be aimed at the sensor to pick it up.

  • 0:11 looks like they were using audacity

  • Wow, this is pretty high tech.

  • welcome to 2009

  • and thats why they have silencers...idiots...

  • Use this technology to study JFK

  • ugh... guns should be ILLEGAL (buying, selling,etc)... USA sell guns legally to mexico and now you blame us (mexico) about crime and that crap.. when also USA is the biggest consumer of drugs in the world... anyway, im just giving my opinion

  • lol its certainly not JUST the biggest consumer of drugs... seeing that USA is filled with obese fatties... I think its the biggest consumer of alot of other things...

  • @Johnem0 well too bad the right to bear arms is the 2nd amendment in the US Constitution.

  • Do the sensors also detect the tremors created by the landwhale at 0:27?

  • what if they use a silencer?

  • then they win o.o

  • I feel so sorry for any country that need a system like this ........grim days :-(

  • cool but it kinda makes me think about big brither watch down on us 24/7 sum eagle eye.

  • Yeh. I think you Yanks should start a movement to get this equipment declared unconstitutional because it interferes with your right to bear arms.

  • Yeah, guns are a pretty dumb thing to allow civilians to own. It's the only way to reliably kill everyone in sight (provided your gun is accurate enough, you got enough bullets, and you're a good shot). You cant do that with a knife. With a knife, its 1 down, and then everyone runs, so you have to pick 1 other to chase, or you run. The idiots don't get that.

  • @mostliberal Did you ever consider what it would be like to be hopeless in your own house as a murderer comes in and begins to kill your family? Or some other people out on the street? Its not the average people that go out an murder others just because they can legally bear arms, if someone wants to kill they can get a hold of a weapon even if its illegal. Now I'm not arguing strictly for the right to bear arms, because I don't know for sure whats best, but you have to look at both sides.

  • You think a normal family would carry weapons at their sides for 24/7, for self defense?

And realize that the only reason they can aquire weapons illegaly very easily, is because of countries that allow them. All they gotta do is cross the border, get a weapon and smuggle it across the border.

Now I also want you to realize that other countries, that don't allow these weapons are doing much better in terms of crime than the countries that do allow them.

  • You've never been to Canada.

  • @fog0death Well... I do live in Canada. So I can understand both sides of it...

  • Apparently gun crime is wayy up in Richmond, B.C. too.

  • First of all I don't have a family of my own, second of all I don't plan on making one. Third of all the only times people try to rob you like that are if the economy is really shitty, like in Detroit, Richmond, Oakland, Pittzburg, or Washington DC (ok, there are more poor places but those are the ones I know). To solve that problem you need to eliminate poverty with government aid, instead of giving those that have stuff, a means to keep their stuff away from the robber. Fuck the family.

  • I agree man, we need to end all poverty in the hood man loughs rough in it .... 919 for life

  • And I've never met anyone with an illegal gun, and I live in the U.S., and I've lived a lot longer outside the U.S. where guns are illiegal, and I only found 1 guy with his own gun, and he had a special license (not that he ever used that thing anyway).

  • Simply amazing. Makes me feel a little bit safer.

  • that must be extremely annoying on 4th of July lol

  • it showed that the thing could tell the difference between a gun and a fire cracker

  • yeah but it would spam the hell out of you

  • True

  • system overload

  • It's awesome, but they need to get it so that firecrackers don't set it off =P That might take a while, but I think it would make this a lot better. All it would take, is a bunch of teens and that thing would be wild. Sure, they would know it was firecrackers, but if you have 14 people doing it, you might confuse it.

Otherwise, AWESOME! I love all the cool technology coming out today =)

  • what about you simulate the sound?

  • What about simulating the sound without this system in place? People will still call the police, and they'll still respond. The only difference is that with it they can actually locate where it was coming from.

  • This is truly sick. We lay off people and take away their homes and some people think that this is the answer? A Christian would look at why do people harm one another? Jesus tried to explain this, but people would not listen, they still do not believe him. Humans are programmed to not believe the truth, But not for much longer. So mean while this Madness continues.

  • Just USA :)

  • Can this device indetify farts and who is farting???

  • probably usefull in usa whre guns seems to be everywhere.. but in (west) europe there is no gun, and no problem about that !

  • and those poor bastards are just slaves to their masters whims...

  • lol at audacity at the start, its a free music recording software, has nothing to do with the story

  • Cool...more technology that can be used to strip away our privacy. What if I want to shoot someone in the privacy of my own home? Is that to much to ask?

  • how about you don't shoot anyone to start with, how's that?

  • in future anything you said will be recorded

  • Well done, very good tecnology

  • Instead of silencers, how 'bout just not shooting people!

  • yar, right!!

  • Yeah and when they arrive the person is either injure or dead. Lets be optimistic this will save lives. There could be a gang shooting like in the movie Malibu Most Wanted with J Kennedy and if the police arrive in time they could ended or actually shoot and kill all the bad guys. I don't know it has is bad factor and good factor.

  • i like it..but what if i got silencers?

    hahah..

    By:Pusah Fiftyfive

  • Back to the good old medieval times eh? Let's see them detect a spear being thrown.

  • i think this might push the sales of silencers in the black market

  • WILLLUVSTHE411 HERE ON YOUTUBE!!!

  • soon enough ur gonna fart, they will hear it and arrest you.

  • and this is why people own crossbows

  • crossbows are for pussies.

  • Invest in silencers much?

  • I used to live in L.A., Echo Park to be precise- My Brother was shot dead while being robbed while doing his delivery route, my uncle is a paralyzed from the waist down for being in the wrong place at the wrong time(gang shootout crossfire) . I could not handle living yhere anymore, so I packed up my Family and Moved to Canada-There are gun crimes here too-but not nearly at the level back in the U.S. The numbers speak for themselves-Toronto-pop.2,500,000 Murders2008-84-by gun50=L.A-854-677by g

  • U STILL die from the gunshot tho

  • I hear that bro!

  • welcome to america

    scum dog society.

  • That's pretty cool, hope it works- To many people are using guns for bullshit, dying for no reason! Good luck Richmond!

  • That's really really awesome.

And for those of you saying..use a silencer or a knife.....you guys are really really smart....just.....amazing.

  • and so people get silencers........

  • hahah moron

  • use a knife

  • use a silencer

  • Great video. I was wondering how those systems worked. Thanks for sharing this, GOOD.

  • my basement is soundproofed.

  • and then came the silencer sales jump.

  • @sergio3089 lol

  • loool

  • I think we should have CCTV cameras on every corner. We should implant GPS devices into every human being in order to protect the children.

This world is a scary place, and we must give up freedom in order to protect the children.

    You will obey.

  • Kill yourself.

  • Why don't you ask Britains how much they appreciate that protection.

  • its too strict there about guns

  • these youtube conversations are so damn funny....i don't even care whats going on up there ^^

  • mummified body

  • @cypher.

it's a pity you don't even know where you come from .probably you 've never been to school.you need to read anthropology books

  • ur crazy if u think this technology like gps and onstar have ben made for the good of its citizens.... Mind control destruction of ur thoughts and soul... then full body enslavement

  • awesome technology, very innovative and helpful. Now stop enforcing marijuana laws so we can start saving lives and start improving the quality of life.

  • Oh it's a firecracker.

  • Just use subsonic rounds. :)

  • That is great!

I wonder what the deal was with the roof top sniper. Mob? Assassin? Random act of violence?
