@ivankinsman Thanks for coming and checking out the video. The folks at Lost Creek have been great to work with on these mushrooms. I'm interested in trying out some other mushrooms, like the porcini. I wonder if they would grow here in our climate. Cold in winter, dry in summer. Thanks again for stopping by.
This video inspired me to order 2 logs from the same company. I'll give you my progress report as well. I'll look forward to learning how to cook with Shiitakes!

Awesome! My father and I drilled holes in many large logs and injected the holes with the shittake mushroom stuff. It's been a year and there hasn't been much, but we did get 3 this past week. They go great on homemade pizza.
What an awesome kit to purchase. I can't wait to see you post pictures as the years pass, to show what's happening past just the first mushroom growth!
I love your motto, the 'fresh is best' idea, and I love watching your recipes. Trying the apricot chicken tonight, I know it will be delicious!
@FlameForged I gotta admit, I was shocked too. I'm worried he's okay and I don't even know the guy personally. He was just such a sweet guy and fun to watch.
@jagwio Thanks. Did you know that 28% of Americans admit to the fact that they don't know how to cook? So there is a need to cover the basics for a large segment of the population. However, things like this mushroom log get me excited. It's interesting, different and fascinating to watch. I think folks have been very interested in this and I will try to find more things like this. Thanks for watching and commenting! Fresh is Best!
@redlipstickgurl I did think that was funny myself. Thumbs down? They probably don't like puppies....or happiness. Thanks for watching and commenting!
@Evange Shipping to Canada is available. Just call the company for details. 1-800-792-0053 is the number. Tell them YourProduceGuy sent you and they will help you out!
@Gardensandcabins Yes. I believe it would. There are places you can purchase the inoculated plugs. Be sure to use a hard wood like oak or hickory. That wood will produce the longest for you.
@SurRealHQ Update video is already in progress. Soaked the first log today and we should have mushrooms in a month. I will chronicle the whole process for you!
@FalconFlyer55 NoProHero is alive and well, but is no longer making videos. His life has taken a turn in a different direction. So, we won't be producing his own stuff anymore. He does help me with my channel (edits all my videos) and will continue with that...at least for the time being. He misses his fans, but he is doing what he needs to do in his life right now. Thanks for watching and inquiring after him. I will let him know you asked.
Woah! I'm excited about this too Steve :) I'm going to buy myself two logs right now. This will be a fun and delicious project!! Also, its something I can do in an apartment yaay :)
@saraworksout That's the beauty of it. If you have 6 square inches of room on your kitchen counter top then you can grow these. Low maintenance, high yield. These gourmet mushroom will sell for $10-12 a pound to the restaurants, and you can grow them yourself and the cost is cheap over the life of the logs! Please tell the folks at Lost Creek Mushroom Farm that you saw these on YourProduceGuy. They would love to know how you found out about these. Thanks again, and remember..Fresh is Best!
Yep, you're right! I had no idea that this was possible. I'm wondering if this would be available in England... Import is probably a no-go, because of the agricultural regulations and whatnot... It would be pretty interesting to have mushrooms at home.
@ferbrz I will check into that for you. These folks at Lost Creek Mushrooms (check out their website) have a mushroom project the they participate with in Ghana. Bringing more food growing capacity to individuals in that nation. I will let you know what I find out. Thanks for watching
@YourProduceGuy Thanks, that's kind of you to do. I'll google their site, and it's wonderful that they're working with african nations to help. If you find something out about it, it won't stop with me, I will let friends know about this wonderful tip. Mushrooms grown at home... who would've thought? :) Thank you.
@ferbrz Of course you can get these in England, this is not a new thing. Mushroom logs have been about for ages. Just Google "mushroom logs" and click shopping and it will give you loads of places selling them in the UK.
@Stewyc26 This would be easy if I was in England right now... Google is defaulting to the country I'm in at the moment and the searches are not helping me out because they're showing only local things, I'm in a place where English is not even a secondary language so needless to say my search was fruitless... Maybe with his contact from the mushroom log company he could help... I always try to google things first, but when it doesn't work I call for help, which is completely fine :)
@ferbrz Ah, OK. Well then you'll be glad to know that they are available in the UK though. :) Not just Shitake either, Oyster, Lions Mane, Chicken of the Woods amongst others.
It's actually much cheaper to just buy the dowels already covered with the spawn, it's around £20 for 100 of them so you can do quite a few logs, all you need is a drill and a candle and of course some logs, postage costs are not exactly cheap for posting logs ;)
@Stewyc26 I'm very glad to know, thanks for confirming it :D I'd love the shiitakes because I think they have a stronger flavour. I am glad to know that it's possible to just make the logs, friends who do gardening will love the tip. It will certainly become a subject of a forthcoming dinner party at home. Thanks again for shouting out some info :)
i thumbed this up and i dont even like mushrooms. cool kit.

Looks interesting and we might try these out.
We have tried homegrown porcini and had a good basket-full last year, although nothing this year as it has been too dry.

That's really cool! I never new you could grow mushrooms from logs.
You should make an update video sometime showing the growth of them.
It would be cool to see what they look like after 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks etc.
