  • Absolutely killer!! : )

  • DUDE THE SOUND!!!!!!! I LOVE THE TONE

  • i seriously thought that was steve perry, talent my brew!

  • That singer has some SERIOUS talent!!!!

  • what are the chords for this

  • yeah the drummers voice class...must have listened to either the song or journey alot..awesome

  • That drummer has some serious pipes!

  • Awesome man!

  • You def have Neal's tone! Great video! Quick question, as far as how easy it is to use, would you prefer the AxeFx II over the Ultra in terms of simplicity?

  • that was cool liked the faces you made bad ass guitarist

  • Awesome sound and version!

  • Dang - great job. One of the best covers of Perry's vocals I've ever heard, too.

  • Not bad....

  • unbelievable facsimile

  • I'm still having a hard time believing that it is not Steve singing that song. It sounds just like him. Perfect.

  • THAT is an insane cover for the song...and damn you nailed the solo. Saying this was amazing is an understatement. Good job!

  • AWESOME!! Thanks for the post! I WISH I COVERED "ANYWAY" This well!! LOL I will definitely use your instructions!! Don't let all these You tube "EXPERTS" bad comments get to you. Awesome video, awesome quality and GREAT info! Thanks a TON!! JIM

  • unbelievable back track

  • seriously great tone! unbelievable singer!! if i saw a band covering Journey that well i certainly wouldn't worry about a note or 2. i've seen evrything on youtube concerning this lead and no 2 are the same. fact is, Neal is so supersonic fast no one but him can be sure. your version sounds excellent!

  • awesome sound and lesson dude (thumbs up)

However, both fast runs are incorrect I'm afraid.

  • @perco754 Ya but how about that singer? :) When you have a singer like Roy in your band not too many people will notice mistakes in the solo :)

    Mark

  • @samhillband You're absolutely right, greate singer! Concrats! :D

There's a slowed down version of the fast runs on vanderbilly . com, check it out!

  • @samhillband I agree with you there, I wish I could find a singer with Roy's talent, or steve's talent for that matter

  • @samhillband Damn Mark, you are such a nice guy!!! Great attitude and by the way you play the best solo for this song in youtube so I give you 11/10. Great job!

  • @perco754 His playing is almost identical to the original. No guitarist, not even Neal Schon, plays solos exactly the same live as on a recording, so cut him some slack and let him have some creative license with the song bro!

  • play that well congratulations friend

  • NICE!

  • Neil would be proud of that performance. Great clarity and tone. The guitar is awesome. The zebra pickups make that thing AWESOME. All of my LP's get the zebra treatment.

  • Wait thommas lennon can play guitar???

  • Wow-great playing, great tones and GREAT backing track. Your 'drummer' is one hell of a Steve Perry sound-alike...better than the guys that Journey themselves has been finding lately!

  • May I ask what kind of strings those are? They seem very suited to this type of playing.

  • Hey, can you put up tabs for the solo?

  • Wonderlful video! Thanks for the job

  • most killer tone I've heard from a Les Paul in a looong time!! awesome cover as well!!

  • your as daft as a ships cat love it crack on top tone

  • Most guys, including the guy in this video, play part of this simple riff incorrectly, and my mission is to set the record straight, since it's easy to hear that what I'm saying is right. I've taught guitar 30 + years and played "Any Way You Want It" since it was first released. It's only one note, but in a song of three repeating chords, for God's sake do it right! Verse: G-G, D/F#-D/F#, E-E - followed by C-B-C-B-C-B-G-G, NOT cbcbcbAg!! That A note is NOT there. Watch Neal & Ross on the videos.

  • @paulschedler some classical musicians play a few notes out go and complain on thier vids mate

  • @paulschedler you are indeed correct sir!

  • Comment removed

  • I would kill for that tone

  • Excellent Mark! How do you boost your solo's so seamlessly? Can that singer do that live? Better watch out - Neil Schon might be listening and try to steal him! LOL!!

  • i never bother about this song till now lol

  • dudes awesome.

  • Awesome........I am an intermediate guitar player that has learned to play on my own. I just find it difficult to learn some of these leads and that video was tremendously helpful. Keep them coming. Sound is great also. What are your opinions on tonelabs??

  • the firts time i see someone that do strange faces when playing and i like it...

  • is there any way you could share the backing track?

  • HELL! Mark, great video, great playing and a KILLER singer you got there!! Keep it up!! Cheers from fratomical Berlin

  • @maxwellpad

Definitely NOT..lol. My Suhr Modern is tuned to Eb. I was going to use it for this, however when I put the Suhr Aldrich pickups in the LP it sonded so good I used it, but the guys already did the backing track in Eb. It is my fault :)

    Mark

  • As always great job Mark. It is funny whenever I see your name it tricks me because there is a guitar great in the houston area who played with dickie betts for a while and his name is mark may instead of day, so when I glance it throws me off. By the way what camera are you using it is always clear and great for veiwing. Thanks again for the vids

  • Great playing man! Love how you didn't play the solo EXACTLY like the recording. Very cool. Keep on rocking! \m/

  • very cool

  • All the best :) Mark !

  • Hey mark what about uploading the track without the guitar..make an awesome backing track practice tool!! :)

  • Great as always Mark

  • Great stuff Mark. It would be interesting for those of us out there (myself included) who own the Waves plug-ins to actually see how you use the various plugs on the mix and how this effects the overall sound AND the guitar sound. Might be interesting to do a kind of a/b comparison between no plug ins at all, and with the plug ins activated. Cheers.

  • beautiful song and great job man! From a drummer in St. Thomas Ontario canada! Love watching you play man !

Pop by and say hi sometime !! ;) I will be posting more vids sometime soon

  • please!!! explain to the trick, the camera has many definitions, and a friend of mine has it and so does not just shoot! as you do that? and one more question that Gibson is that model?

  • wow , great thanks for let us see your gear chain to record the music you play ,, simply awesome !

  • Mark,

As always, you've done a fantastic job here. I truly enjoy watching and listening to you. It is so nice to see such a talented player not take himself too seriously, but tear it up none the less!! Please keep posting, I look forward to each one.

  • excelent mark !!

which camera do you use? and that programs use to edit?

and use the edirol for sound?

  • @Lamaza07 I'm now using a Kodak Playtouch. I use Logic Pro 9. In this video I went from the AxeFx into the Apogee Duet into my MacBook Pro (Logic Pro 9). I also use Waves plugins.

  • @Lamaza07 I use iMovie11 to edit the video

  • Are you using a plexi or JCM model for the Axe?

  • @JW852

    MarshaHBE model

  • @samhillband Thanks for the reply. It sounds awesome!

  • Ohhhhhhh Yeahhhhhh!

  • Damn Mark, I was listening to you play and I completely forgot that it was a backing track you were playing with! :)

  • Great guitar tone. If I can ask, which AxeFx preset was that? Do you tweak the presets a lot? I just bought the AxeFx Ultra and it really kicks ass but I can't get it to sound quite as punchy as you (I have a custom shop Brian Moore with Duncans JB and Alnico II). How much of the sound would you say are the Waves plugins?

    Thanks and keep posting, man.

  • @stmike12 I do some tweaking. I add parametrics and GEQ's. I will upload the preset to the AxeFx forum as well as the AxeChange in the editor. If you can't get it from those sources send me your email address via pm here and I will send it to you.

The Waves help with getting the volumes up and some compression. The AxeFx sounds pretty much the same with or without. The Waves help polish the mix but don't change the tone of the guitar.

    Mark

  • Have you already done a demo of that D-tuner? Would be nice to see how well and accurately it works. Great video again.

  • Great video Mark - thanks for this.

  • Amazing, Mark, amazing.

  • what a voice your drummer has on him

  • Man that guy singing is amazing! Great playing sir!
