  • does any p38 run 100%

  • this is definitely a head gasket... i had the same on mine just recently, cost about 650 to put right

  • I think it is the suspension pump

  • Minds doing the same thang thought it was a spark plug head gasket is blown

  • Dude im not a mechanic but i think its the valve like when its ticking on 1 rpm its vale on the front if its intake then the valve on the back just adjust the right measure of the valve then its good as new i promise u that

  • @rhopilema Depending on how much the car's worth I'd spend some money on decent tools including a torque wrench to do it myself. Get the head off the engine (maybe have a shop inspect it to make sure it's good) and get new bolts and a gasket. How hard can it be?!

  • My car sounds just the same. it is also a 2000. I replaced the exhaust manifold and it still has that sound. I guess the head gasket is blown. Now I need to find someone who can work on it for a fair price. I am in Cali and some guy quoted me for $3000+.

  • @kendayo1 Fix it yourself?! If you can live without the car for a while whilst you have the engine disassembled why wouldn't you try it? The parts are cheap - 2 headgaskets and and intake manifold for a V8 and a set of new bolts. If you get a manual, a decent set of wrenches and a torque wrench you got all you need. It's labor intensive - so I doubt you'll find anyone to do it for cheap.

  • mine was making the same noise, head gasket and over heated

  • i have a 99 p38...jesus! i have the same problem!....nobody wants to touch it for less than $2200..the heat is working and the engine isnt overheating..thank god

  • Mine is doing that, for you, was it the gasket (small metal 4/3 ringed thing) or the actual manifold (big metal pipes)? Because I'm getting the same thing and I'm sure it's one of the 2.

  • mine sounds the same it a head gasket leak or blown head gasket as long as it's not overheating you have a chance of fixing it. the thing is finding someone cheap enouph to do it! i'm tring to do mine alone do you know where i can get a manual

  • google "green oval rave" and downlaod the RAVE manual for your vehicle. That's the workshop manual for LR.

  • Spend the $12,000 to replace the engine on that $4,000 Range Rover! It sounds like you broke one of your exhaust manifolds in half.

  • Turned out to be a blown head gasket. Exhaust manifold is good.

    Total cost breakdown:

    - 560 usd for labour (including valve job)

    - 340 usd for parts, including full gasket kit and ARP head studs.

BTW, I'm in the Dominican Republic, so it turned out to be $900 to fix $15,000 Range Rover. Still worth it.

  • helpful info...:D

  • Sounds like a steam train.... lol
