Our fear of ALlah is not the fear which is due to opression, or due to standing at gun point, or a fear that turns us away from him. no, rather this is the beauty, our fear makes us turn towards him. Its the fear of the one who deserves fear. But islam is balanced, so as one scholar described faith, he said its "like a a bird with its 2 wings ( fear and hope) and its body ( love)". This is the middle and staight path.
