Think of an abscess as a massive zit. Although it is just a large infection within a cyst (usually). They should be lanced with a sharp knife so they can drain properly and be thoroughly cleaned.

Either way, that one was relatively small and caused little discomfort. I used some of the clindamycin i had left over and some bactrim to clean it and it went away in a week.

Staph is present on everyone's body, some people have it flare up and some don't, sometimes when it flares up if the conditions are right it can become MRSA which is just a stronger more resistant version of Staph Infection. This was a result of staph flaring up and becoming MRSA. You can find a ton of information about MRSA all over the web, it has really become a very fast spreading epidemic.

@richyrich my opinion is that it became a problem because doctors subscribe antibiotics for almost every minor infection, so that the bacteria in the body get used to them and get resistant over time, and then when you really have a bad infection the usual treatment doesn't work. isn't there any way to locally this with like an uv lamp - i think that most bacteria are not uv resistant, with heat like 50 C locally applied to the area or something like that?
