I remember when I first heard this song back in 1972 when it was re-released in the U.S.A.....I was 15 years old working in a migrant center for farmworkers in the summer of that year in Burlington, Washington...I instantly fell in love this song....Eric's band at that time was Derek and Dominos and as the story for the title name goes Eric was inspired by the book "the Story of Layla and Majnun" which also reflected his own life of a man who was hopelessly in love with a unavailable woman.
