  • I'm Sory but thay are not kukri knifes

  • @MrMisterman444 They're better.

  • @tallswede80 no there not, cold steel has great "super steels" but they chip way more than carbon steel nepal ones, way less money, and you cant beat the look or heft of a Nepalese khukukri. anyone who is going to buy a cold steel gurkha kukri, just get a nepalese one, or you better get the CS kukri for a real bargain because there like 665$

  • @carlyle0229 Yes, they are. I don't know what super steels you're talking about, but the SK5 gurkha is 1080 high carbon steel. And you're full of shit and talking out of yoru ass because It does NOT chip. I have pounded the CS hard. There is no kukri like the CS gurkha kukri. I have a traditional kukri and it does NOT have the cutting power of the CS. The CS kukri is the best kukri on the market.

  • @tallswede80 yes i do have a lot of cs knives, and i love them, but there too much money. and the san mai III is a super steel.and the sk5 is not as good steel as the1095 high carbon that the original kukri is made from.i think were talking about apples and oranges when it comes to the differences between the nepal ones and theCS ones.i think that because the nepal kukries are less money, you can beat on them more. is your traditional kukri from nepal or pakastain?there is a difference

  • @carlyle0229 Incorrect, you cannot "beat on them more". Nepalese kukris are not made from 1095. Nobody knows what they're really made of. The websites I've seen like khukurihouse do not give specific information except that they are made from "leaf springs". Nepal does not have the manufacturing technology that Japan or Taiwan have, so you can't expect as good a product. Furthermore, the design of the CS is superior, the full flat grind, and edge geometry cut vastly better.

  • @tallswede80 actually you can tell its 1095, and you can keep your overpriced shit to yourself. ill keep my genuine, hand-made kukri,

  • @carlyle0229 No, you can't tell. You're full of shit. 1095 looks and feels exactly the same as 1055, 1065, 1080 etc. It's not like they're different colors. We're talking minute details in alloy metals that you would only know for sure if you knew where exactly the steel came from. As far as CS being overpriced, once again, you're full of shit. CS kukri are vastly better than your worthless nepalese scrap metal.

  • @tallswede80 wait wait, you said you had a nepal kukri, is the spine thicker than your san mai one?because if it isnt, its not made in nepal. its pakistain crap. because the nepalese knives are like 12to 13mm thick, and also i prefer my buffalo horn handle to the kraton handle that will break eventually. i also think its more of an opinion for which is better,i would rather have my kukri over yours,so please stop cursing me out and actually try to be mature, its making you look bad

  • @carlyle0229 None of the nepalese kukris are 13mm thick. They are more like 8-9 mm, which is very close to 5/16". And kraton will never break. It may wear out, but it's a soft material that will not break like buffalo horn will. And it is my opinion that CS is the best, but it happens to be the truth. Ontario makes a kukri that is very similar to the traditional kukri with real 1095 instead of nepalese scrap, and made in the USA. At least check that out.

  • @tallswede80 im done with this conversation, i love my nepal kukri, and i think its the best kukri out there, so keep your kukries and ill keep mine

  • @carlyle0229 Knock yourself out. You are allowed to be as ignorant as you want to be.

  • @carlyle0229 I agree CS is shit but now you're just being foolish. Kraton is going to break? My ass it is!

  • @tonytentone I agree kraton won't break, but now you're just being foolish. CS Gurkha kukri is the best ever.

  • @tallswede80 The San Mai III CS kukri is the best performing. I will agree. How can you not love a stainless-supersteel-stainless sandwich? But if you consider the price (not the CS full fat price but reasonable internet: $350ish) It's a hard pill to swallow. I just feel that the SK-5 version does not compare to the OKC kukri. Especially not at its price.

  • @tonytentone I have the ontario kukri. It's pretty nice, but it's nowhere near as good as the CS.

  • @tallswede80 You know, if the San Mai version really is a convex edge, the price is rather nice actually.....

  • the long 1 looks more like a falcata

  • Should i buy the magnum kukri or the kukri machete?

  • thank you for review, but cold steel made one more kukri, they call it Cold Steel 35GKS Mini Gurkha Light Kukri, do you have it?

  • which one would u recommend the magnum kukri or the gurkha kukri??

  • It's KHUKURI, goddammit!

  • @360felix Cold Steel calls it "Kukri," check their web site.

  • @tallswede80

do you have an opinion on the ka bar kukri?????????

  • @jmartillaro I would recommend the Ontario kukri if you are looking for a cheaper alternative. The ontario is around 60 dollars, so a little more expensive but it's better than the kabar.

  • @tallswede80 Agreed. The San Mai steel is sweet but if your actually gonna use this as a tool, Ontario is the only way. CS SK-5 steel is just 1080 high carbon. Good steel but not worth CS's prices. Ontario is 1095 steel. essentially the same stuff. (ok technically 1095 can be tempered to a harder edge blah blah. None of us would be able to tell the difference between 1080 and 1095)

  • Imagine that the world is full of zombies and u only had 1 knife ..what u gonna do?

  • @mahish98 kill myself?! :D

  • I have the old version, Carbon V Cold Steel Kukri, 5/16". Super awesome.

  • @order2khaos

Yeah, wish i could get the carbon v. Shitty labor unions shut down the factory.

  • i from nepal and ive got the original but a longer version in my house so i will survive the zombie apocalyps bitches hahah!

  • why do you have those if none look used?

  • crossfire in real life!! lol

  • y do u have Kukri?

  • @bloodicekiller

what kind of question is that? Why do you care? What difference does it make?

  • @bloodicekiller its better cutting/chopping vs a strait blade whatever

  • Thanks for the help! What would you use to sharpen it? I'm especially concerned about sharpening the area just after the hilt as it bows in rather than out so I don't know if a normal flat sharpening stone will give me the right edge. Thanks again!

  • @gopherbabes

There are some cylindrical shaped stones and files available that will be able to get into that area. Anything with a convex abrasive surface should be able to get into that area.

  • @gopherbabes A phonebook and progressively finer grits of wet dry sandpaper starting with 800 or 1000 grit and progressing to 1400 or so.

  • @gopherbabes "vplOsEUgwIg" a good wet&dry method. On a real Kukri there isn't really a need to go for razor sharp, but instead keep a nice strong edge. The weight of the blade does the work.

  • Quick question. I just received my $20 CS Kukri. Is this a Flat Grind, Double Bevel, or a Sabre Grind? Looks more like a Sabre or Double Bevel Grind than a Flat Grind to me. Then again, I'm kind of new at knives. Love your reviews. Was great help in deciding which one I wanted to get. And btw, the san mai III lookes like a convex to me as well. ;)

  • @gopherbabes

It's a flat grind, but not a "full" flat grind like the SK5 kukri, since it doesn't go all the way from the spine to the edge.

  • Comment removed

  • sweet collection man, is there any reason why you got their whole lineup of kukris? that san mai is bad ass and if it does have a convex edge it would be the ultimate chopping tool. you could split wood with that technically

  • just sayin.............

  • those will be very usefull incase elephants decide to target humans as their primary food source.......

  • witch one is the sharpest one? please anwser!

  • awesome video man!!!

  • It's all the same, Cold Steel doesn't make Kukri's, thei're making thinner reproductions of a very traditional tool that's been around longer than the existance of the USA. No problem ofcourse but: don't pretend that your product is a kukri in essence. It is just not, that's all.

  • lol what do you honestly use these for??

  • ZOMBIES ARE SOFT AS BUTTER..SO BUY LOTS OF INEXPENSIVE KUKRIS AND NOT ONE REAL EXPENSIVE KUKRI..AND GET A TWO HANDED KUKRI MACHETTE..MORE DISTANCE

  • the "cold-steel" sticker come's off better if you walm it up with a hairdryer 1st

  • Cold Steel has two separate versions of this, though they both look the same.

    San Mai III® Gurkha Kukri

    $664.99

    Gurkha Kukri (SK-5 High Carbon)

    $299.99

Do you know why one of them costs twice as much, they both look too similar to me..

  • @KyleCom

The san mai is the more expensive one.

  • the blade is cold but it draws warm blood!

  • How much does the sk5 cost?

  • San Mai III is not a convex edge, I'm quite sure of it. It would not be time or cost effective for CS to put a convex edge on any of their knives, especially considering that they don't advertise it as convex.

  • @Aynarchist

Wrong as you could possibly be, they advertise their san mai trailmaster as convex.

"San Mai III is not a convex edge" what does that sentence mean, moron?

and I know what a convex edge looks like, asshole.

  • @tallswede80 i like kukris i only owned a six dollar one from budk though i want a REAL one :)

  • @tallswede80 Woah there, cowboy. Slow it up. I didn't insult you, I just told you my understanding. Please, in order to avoid looking like more of an idiot, take a hit off the inhaler, unclench your fists, and refill your psych meds. Now, this knife is not advertised, as you know, as convex. Out of curiosity I am going to contact their customer service for an answer, since I am in the market. I stand corrected on the Trailmaster, though that is tangential to the conversation. Later, partner.

  • @tallswede80 oooh someone got a little sensitive eh? you must really love the convex edge eh? how beautiful is the convex edge? probably a really nice convex edge eh?

  • @egeagles14playa

Oh yes, it is a very very nice edge. Truly beautiful. It's frightening how well it cuts.

  • @Aynarchist Did you look at the video if you did it is easy to see that it is convex

  • @lsk300mag It looks that way, but it is hard to tell for sure just from the video. It doesn't make sense to me why CS would not advertise it as a selling point if they took the time to hand-hone this blade. They certainly charge enough for it to be, but if they don't advertise it then it is not at all cost effective to put in the extra effort. Also, the picture on the same description does not look convex. I don't mean to doubt tallswede80, I just want to find some evidence from CS directly.

  • @Aynarchist the sanmai vg10 one is obvious convex. Just look at the light.

  • Have the SK-5 one. But not blacked out. Best knive/machete ive ever owned! 10/10 points to Cold Steel!

  • Is the Kukri good for throwing?

  • I have one

  • I like your toes

  • These are really cool and all but I just love my Cold Steel Rajah 2 cause I can take it everywhere its my regular EDC!

  • @PEREZCHOOCH yeah raj is rly nice but you cant use it hard like a real fixed kukri so it escapes me as to why they designed it after such when folders are so weak, (yes ive seen the lockup/held...etc)

  • @Taud Yeah it's not as strong as a fixed blade but its allot stronger than your average folding knife and the best part is you can take this thing almost anywhere I've used it when i went out camping I batoned fire wood with it and it's still as strong as it was when i took it out of the box!

  • @PEREZCHOOCH oh sweet when are you gonna post the baton video? id love to see the raj doing that to see how it holds up wit the edge and whatnot and its many uses while camping

  • @Taud Yeah I'll have to do that real soon for you just subscribe to my channel but for the time being there are hundreds of other videos on YouTube of people testing it out you should check it out!

  • Are these really great throwing knives or do I watch Heroes to much.

  • did they come with jarate and a sydney sleeper?

  • +1 for short kukri, at that price i couldnt refuse it, my brother will love this for xmas bwahahah

  • How much was the silver one?

  • I recommend the long machette, it's the only machette I've used that can actually get through Scotch Broom without breaking your back over it.

  • Not only could it cut someone's limbs off, if there were a zombie apocolypes, it would be like slicing through wet clay lol.

  • for just woodwork should i go with the magnum kukrii or normal kukri machete

  • As for "all incarnations of the Kukri by Cold Steel" you are missing two. Their original Kukri is the LTC Kukri that they started making in the early 90's and the Ghurka Kukri Light which was discontinued around '02/'03. The light kukri was made in Carbon V steel and had a thinner spine and was saber ground instead of flat ground. I have one I've used for over 10 years plus two more stored still in the box. The LTC Kukri has a more rounded front end and makes for a good utility blade also.

  • Though the San mai is "better", the SK5 sounds pretty fair in price and materials. It even has a tactical approach to it, you know?

  • @20tom09gt San Mai III, by far. SK-5 is good, but San Mai's simply the best steel on the market. It's much better than S30V, 1095 cro-van, 154CM, or any of the other high end steels.

  • @Dan39991 well first off san mai III is better for what its made for, s30v and 154cm is amazing for folders, i wouldnt want a fixed blade machete with s30v...

  • @Dan39991 Are you retarded? All San Mai III is, is a laminate, and VG-1 is a lower quality steel than VG-10, with poorer edge retention and wear resistance; far inferior to S30V, comparable to 154 CM (not crucible's CPM 154CM), and way worse than 1095 Cro for its POU. Comparing a VG-1 laminate to INFI or CPM M4 is just laughably stupid; I think you've been drinking the Cold Steel marketing cool aid.

  • what would you say is better the san mai or the sk-5

  • From where

  • imagine while stabbing someone your grip slips and slides over the blade

  • @JustLuckyToBeMe That's why you don't grip it like a wimp. You give that thing a firm grip and it's going nowhere. Nepalese made kukri don't have guards, either, and their grips are made of wood, yet there have never been reports of someone sliding onto the blade. Why? Because they don't hold it like a limp-wristed movie star expecting to have it kicked out of their hand.

  • @ChishioAme ''sighs'' i said imagine, thats like IF, theres stilla small chance that your grip might slip, like if yr hands are oily XD

  • @JustLuckyToBeMe Not really. A properly made wood hilt is unfinished and will absorb all the oils and sweat of your hand, providing a non-slip grip; finished wood has a barrier preventing that, leading to a slick grip. There's really no chance you could slide up onto the blade with a proper grip.

  • @ChishioAme still a IF, theres no gurrantee that yr hand wont slip

  • anything about the cold steel two handed kukri?

  • can you get the san mai in black?

  • I got the cold steel gurkha kukri sk-5 high carbon version for close to $200. And I love it! My question to you is, for the extra $200 is the san mai III worth getting? Did u experience any accidental strikes on rocks? Do you actually use it more than the regular sk-5 version? I was just thinking having my kukri re-profiled to to convex since the softer carbon steel is easier to maintain and a little more forgiving, and fixable to the edge on mis-hits.

  • The San Mai version is closest to the original.

  • the San Mai version looks like a more authentic version of Kukris, minus the spear of shiva by the handle. You can tell they're authentic because of the convex edge it has, and the fact that it's folded.

Just something extremely attractive about folded steel to me. Must be the blood and sweat the makers pour into the blade.

  • @BassmasterD What are you talking about? There is no folding with either the san mai kukri or the SK-5 version. The SK-5 is a single piece of what is essentially 1080 carbon, and the Vg-1 sain mai 3 is merely 2 pieces of cheapo low carbon stainless(either 420 or Jap SUS 400 series) forge welded onto a piece of Takefu VG-1; nothing authentic about it.

  • FUCK O.O

I did never know how THICK the san mai version is :D

its not a knife its a damn cleaver

  • Would the Gurkha kukri be long enough to be efficient for bush whacking and/or the zombie apocalypse?

  • @Sassafras072

Definitely the living dead, and it's good for whacking the bushes also.

  • @Sassafras072 The girl in Resident Evil 3 uses Gurkha Kukris to cut up zombies.

  • @Sassafras072 Hey dude ..Please watch a movie called "Resident Evil 3" You will see what a pair of kukri can do :)

  • @Sassafras072 I'd prefer the Magnum machete(lowest on end has slightly longer length than the rest but keeps the same properties of teh ultimate dice capability. but if your stuck with any of them then you have a good chance to survive, suggest adding anti-bite armor

  • @Sassafras072 Thats the reason i was planning on buying it. Zombie Invasion.

  • What would be a fair price for Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri (VG1)? If you don't mind me asking.

  • missing the rajah II

  • Gotta love CS... Though I would dare to call these cheap ones falcata machetes, especially the magnum! Possibly the best helmet/armor chopping sword designs in the world.

  • im getting the magnum machet for $65 aus is the a rip off?

  • @legalam

    Dunno what's that in USD?

  • @legalam

    That's 56 dollars. I bought mine for 15 dollars. I think it's a ripoff.

  • @tallswede80 where did you buy it for $15?

  • @legalam

    Definantly a rip-off. I got mine for $20USD.

  • @legalam total rip mine was 20$ canadian.....

  • Kick ass video.

  • The folding ones are called, Rajah. I have the rajah 1

  • The first one ...look nice...Please compare the price and quality into transcipt

  • Can someone tell me why they call these knives " Kukri"? Thanks.

  • @nitroflesh

    What do you mean?

  • @nitroflesh Hahaha, shut up, pussy.

  • @nitroflesh

Because "Khukuri" is its Nepalese name

    Nepal is its origin

and Khukuri sounds similar to Kukri

  • @nitroflesh

Because "Khukuri" is its Nepalese name

    Nepal is its origin

and British interpreted Khukuri as Kukri as they sound similar

  • @nitroflesh Read up on its history from the Himalaya. If you are ironic, the word "kukri" sells more. For these knives it's okay, bcs the price.. The two largest ones rather have the shape of a falcata sword, which the kukri shape probably was inspired by when Alexander the Great wandered through.

  • @Equalpower thanks

  • @Equalpower a falcata is an iberian sword, even though with a shape similar to a kukri it is believed that the shape influence was taken from kopis, the sword that Alexander used by historical records

  • @nitroflesh the same reason they call tantos "tanto", balisongs "balisong", and karambits "karambit".

  • @bobjoemagee Yeah but sometime a word can have a meaning.

  • @nitroflesh i remember reading something about it having something to do with their words for chop and other stuff.... (i think it was bullshit though)

  • @bobjoemagee I understand. I thoght it had a deep meaning. Thanks.

  • @nitroflesh it's what the napalese wariors who fought for the british and used them in battle called them look up "ghurka" for a more detailed explanation

  • @nitroflesh because thats the name the nepalese gave it...

  • @XDJOHNNYFORTXD That speaks for it self. But it probably have a meaning.

  • @nitroflesh

    Search on Wikipedia about "Kukri"

  • whats CONVEX??,,lol

  • dollar for dollar is the sk-5 better?

  • @fredjustsucks

No. If you can get the san mai do it.

  • I have a Magnum Kukri , I LOVE IT...perfect for the jungle, wish I had money to buy the san mai editions, but thay are quite expensive...LOL

But they made some good stuff.

    Great vid.

  • i like more the first one lol

  • which do you prefer out of the two cheaper incarnations, the magnum or the short one?

  • @mixcow

    I like the longer one.

  • @tallswede80 thats what she said

  • @yotuber666

    haha

  • How do you like the magnum, it looks like you have gotten some good use out of it?

  • @wilcox1219

Yes, I've used it quite a bit since I made this video. If you're thinking about buying one, do it. It's excellent and tough.

  • @tallswede80 ONE! I was thinking about adding it to my Site. I have used all of them frequently. UrbanSurvivaloutfitters . com

  • @zukowski2008 I hope you fucked him up good, took his blade and his wallet for doing that. Andt you shoulda tossed his shoes on a power line for good measure.

  • they are kinda like kopis or falcata

  • dude you have all four of them my god dude how much money do u spend on knives lol i wish i could do that

  • dude the kabar kurki is better then all of these. Look it up!

    Nice vid tho 5 *

  • @Affliction4evr buddy...the kabar kukri is a good machete but it is nothing compares to the san mai III version by cold steel (the top silver one) it goes for about 650 new.....and its extremely high quality steel.

  • @TheAaronGreen waste of money for something that isnt even made by hand(the san mai).....give Himalayan imports a try....made by hand and for a decent price...based in nevada good stuff

  • @warriorofsteel01 I do agree with you...however i was comparing it the the ka-bar kukri....my comment said the san mai is better than the ka-bar, i didn't say it was the best in the world. and just for the record just because something is hand made doesn't make it better......ive never tried one so i wouldn't know, but just sayin.

  • @TheAaronGreen my bad lol but still try himilayan imports the blades can be as much as 8mm thick at the spine then it tapers down also try khukri house but they take longer to arrive but they do come directly from nepal.himilayan imports imports them from nepal and then from a warehouse to your door mneh whatever haha

  • @warriorofsteel01 yea. lol. seen a couple videos of people using them. look pretty nice.

  • @TheAaronGreen VG-1 is not 'extremely high quality' its a step above AUS8, similar to VG-10, but with poorer edge retention and better toughness. VG-1 is not a good steel for bushcraft, too prone to chipping. The Gurkha Kukri goes for about 350 (MSRP means nothing, it doesn't represent product quality or market value), still overpriced for what you get. The best Kukri on the market right now, for bushcraft or any type of chopping chores, is the Busse. Nothing beats INFI for heavy chopping.

  • @Affliction4evr the kabar one is made from 1085 carbon steel which is still a good steel but not as good as san mai III

  • About how much does the sk5 version costs? US dollars?

  • usually real kukhri is thick and heavy and nepalese also use it at home to cut meat n for various chores..so it's quite legal to keep.

  • nasty feet

  • Just wondering if you could do San Mai III specific Kukri review?

  • I live in Macedonia in Europe. How much will it cost me if i order a kukri machete from cold steel?Plls answer

  • @klgdv

It's been a while but I'll answer anway. I don't know how much it would cost. I don't order from Cold Steel, I order from distributors. Use google shopping and search for "cold steel 97mkm" to find a distributor.

  • those lanyards suck get some waxed military lace

  • what is the difference between a convex edge and a grind edge?

  • The grind edge looks like this > , it's two straight lines going to an edge, but the convex is rounded to the edge. Picture two circles intersecting. The point where they intersect is the edge. I don't know how else to explain it.

  • grind edge are for softer targets they tend to be more sharper, the convex does the job but last longer.
