when i came out to my family about me being an atheist my dad looked me right in the face and said to me "today i have lost a son" but my mother said "as long as you keep true to what you believe and true to what you stand for you will always be a good person in the eyes of other people, and forget what a god thinks of you because if god is okay with his followers judging people like they do then god is not a friend you would want to have" stay true to yourself

I think it's just life. I have found more empathy from non-religious or atheist people than from devout religion followers. I am not truly atheist I just do not like religions. I think religions show very negative ideas about God. The best words I ever got were from an Atheist: "Buddy, I really feel bad about your problem, and believe me, I see you as an intelligent and interesting person, and I know you'll get over it some day but you can always cry on my shoulder any time you want"

You're close, but not quite. The question "Does a god exist?" has always been a philosophical question because it is not verifiable. It cannot be a scientific question. What does earth science have to do with anything? Its not like earth science and space science are two different things. Its just science.

You don't seem to understand. An argument, in and of itself, does not prove anything. Unless all the premises are proven to be true, the statement cannot be known to be true. The only way to prove premises is with evidence.

It is not possible to prove or disprove anything without evidence. Evidence determines the truth value of the premises, which in turn determines the truth value of the claim itself. Far too often people will overlook the assumptions needed to reach a conclusion. Again, there is no "atheists' claim". Atheist only means lack of belief in god. You can't go around claiming that all atheists believe in (blank).

Religous peiple call atheists immoral. Not because we do wrong, but because they cant imagine moral without some opressor (god) putting a gun to your head. I heard a guy on the radio today, and he said that "christianity has answered question ateism could answer. But thats the whole point of being an atheist. We gather evidence, and only make conclusions out of that. Christians can say anything and reply the bible. Please, all atheists, come to our aitheist paradise which is Europe.

Also, about the whole "Under God" part of the Pledge of Allegiance. As a Democratic nation, you can't expect America to follow the every whim of the minority. Although the rights of minorities are respected, their wants take a back seat to the wants of the majority. Democracy is all based on the idea of Utilitarianism. Basically that means doing the most good for the most people. You can never please everybody, so we should all strive to please the most people.

Atheists are free thinkers and that scares a lot of people, expecially in America. For many it's safer to brand someone negativly to make yourself feel better than to step out of your comfort zone and question things you've had beaten into your brain since you were a child. We could in fact ask his creator if he is fictional or not. So after asking Rowling. We can fulfil the burden of proof as to him being fictional.
