Savage Worlds is, arguably, the greatest RPG system ever invented. I tend to judge games based on how much of the rules I either ignore or forget. With Savage Worlds, I forget and ignore very little; mostly it's on a campaign by campaign basis where you have to change how Arcane Backgrounds work.
GURPS was clumsy by comparison. It tries hard to encompass as much as possible and comes off aggravating.
Hey just wanted to say this video, along with some others on Youtube, sold me on SW. Thanks for the review! The video response I left is for a contest I'm doing giving away a copy of SW:EX for any viewers who would be interested :)
What I love about SW, other than all the great aspects you mentioned, is that it really lends itself to the do-it-yourself gamer. There are tons of fan made items that you can download to make really cool props for your games. Everything from the wheel of raises (A wheel that you line up to your target number and then it will tell you what values will yeild how many raises) to Adventure cards, to cardstock minis. It's also a great way to put old minis and terrain from other games to work
I'm another huge fan of Savage Worlds. It is now squarely one of my very favorite RPG systems. As Ogma01 mentioned, there are simply so many creative, streamlined and easy-to-use elements that create an amazing game. It keeps the book-keeping to a minimum and puts the power back into the players' creativity. Thanks for the review!
SW is my favorite system, hands-down. The first thing that sold me on the game were all the lovely trappings: playing cards for initiative, bennies, the Wild Die, the damage system, etc. Just lots of wonderful bits and pieces that work together like a finely honed gaming machine! It is superb!!!
I'm trying to get a friend into this and this might just do the trick. thanks.
