  • such a cute bird!!! i want to see these birds personally... :)

  • ADORABLE!

  • This is beautiful! BUT, injured wildlife should ALWAYS be taken to a licensed wildlife facility! It was pure luck that the injury was soft tissue and the bird healed on its own. It is also illegal for the public to keep wildlife like this. Some people have brought birds to the place I volunteer that were fed all the wrong things...feeding baby hummers just sugar water - well, the mother feeds them a lot of insects - they need protein to grow, etc. All that being said, this is a wonderful story!

  • That is one caring man!

  • lovely!

  • this is amazing. there should be more videos on youtube like this <3 :)

  • A real delight to watch and to know that there are people out there who care for our creatures in distress. A beautiful experience to observe! Thank you so much for sharing this video with us.

  • This is precious! I love hummingbirds :)

  • I just love this video. Thank you for rescuing that cute hummingbird.

  • Hummingbirds are one of my favorite birds, up there with owls, ospreys, and archaeopteryx.

  • Hummingbirds don't have a sense of smell so they can't smell us humans

  • that's quite amazing and wonderful

  • OMG this is so amazing! just WOW!

  • This is a great story and beautiful video and reminds me if my youth when I saved a robin. Just gorgeous! Thanks for posting this!

  • how did you get the mother bird to trust you that much? and i thought once a bird had a scent of a human on them the parents dont want anything to do with them anymore. Are humming birds excluded from this or is that a false statement? Thank you for being one of the few with a kind heart and soul out there.

  • @brittanynoel02 That's a well-known urban legend that was invented to keep children from handling baby birds that might be learning how to fly. Most birds actually have poor senses of smell - hummingbirds included - so it's fine to handle them.

  • Fantastic video...thanks for helping Peeps!

  • squeaky.

  • I'm sure the 9 dislikes so far were all typos.

  • What a beautiful incredible video.

  • Good thing you found peeps in time. Otherwise some bad kitty would have came by and --- it ain't pretty. Let's just put it that way.

  • This is such a sweet story, and very amazing. The mother's instinct to feed her baby, and to know that you (y'all) could be trusted is wonderful. What a spectacular privilege!! Thank you very much for posting this, and foremost, for rescuing the sweet Hummingbird.

  • It's seeing things like this that make me believe that there are still Angels in this world.

    So sweet.

  • I love that there are people in the world that still care about our fine feathered friends.

  • A beautiful soul for a beautiful man!

  • that was so so cool! thanks for sharing!!!

    matt

  • Great job Peter and the rest of the gang for taking care of Peeps; the hummingbird who was in urgent need of care! If all of us help the exotic wild life rather than poach, hunt (mainly for fur, of stuffed figurines around a house/museum for attraction) neglect, or kill them (due to the fact we just might not like them) we'd all live in peace and harmony with God's creatures. Then God will appreciate what we do and in turn manifest nature's true wonders! This is a good lesson for all of us!

  • Amazing!

  • Loved it! Especially the happy ending--thank you for caring.

  • AMAZINGLY WONDERFUL!

    Cheers from Linda

  • adorable!

i spotted the left wing in the beginning--where it looked like the left wing was flapping opposite the right wing. i was wondering if it was supposed to be like that on a hummingbird or if it was injured--so thanks for the clarification!

also, did you see how large the baby was compared to mom? wondering if it's normal or if it's because baby wasn't flapping and burning calories?

finally...how did mom react to it being taken away, and did it get released back near mom?

    thanks!

  • I love this, all of us are blessed by you sharing this beautiful video. Mahalo from Hawaii.

  • To witness the sublime is so rare. Thanks to the wonderful rescuers who had presence of mind to capture it on camera. Many thanks.

  • that's amazing and wonderful - what an adventure for you folks! Congratulations and good job.

  • what a wonderful thing to have happen in your life!!!

  • I'm a long time birder and animal lover but the tiniest of these birds are my favorites. Thank you for sharing this amazing story.

  • What a pity the bird wasn't released where he was found. I'm sure the mother would have been waiting for him. Could the carers not give you advice so you could continue where the mother could see him? I imagine you could have constructed a nest (plant pot full of straw tied to a tree with wire. It would have been easier and safer for the mother to feed him in such a situation. thanks for doing your best.

  • @ocheyan -Really? Ok Debbie Downer. Give me a break.

  • I am amazed that the mother came that close. We feed hummers all the time and have never been this lucky! Good for you!

  • awwwwwwwwwwwww sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute

  • Beautiful!! makes my heart warm. :)

  • Beautiful , amazing and touching video. I wonder if the mother bird was able to be with her baby hummingbird after the baby was released into the wild after treatment for the wing.

  • Awww, does not even cover it! Thank you for being so kind to that poor little birdie. I'm glad to hear he was okay.

  • from where are the best lessons taught?

  • Fantastic story and good work in every sense of the word. The photography was so sharp and clear as was the sound. I just shot my very first videos of Argentine tango which is my passion. I hope to be able to get this quality eventually. Right now I just used a Canon Power Shot and I'm amazed. You must have a good quality video camera and sound equipment.I would love to know. Also, how do you reduce the size of the file for You Tube?

  • Who are the SEVEN PERCENT that didn't like this video? Could it be they're IN CONGRESS??? LOL!

THANK YOU for such a super sweet video!

  • Peeps is fatter and bigger than mom

  • How beautiful! We have anywhere from 14, to approx 30 hummingbirds daily since it cooled off here. We spend hours watching and laughing. They are quite the little entertainers. You did a good thing, Peter. He probably would have died, if not for you. Thank you for posting this!

  • That is sooo awesome !!!!!!

  • to "talawind"...all youtube videos tend to do that on most computers...try this...as soon as the video begins to play, hit the pause button and wait. You will see a red bar slowly crossing right below the bottom of the video. Wait until it has completely crossed the bottom of the video and then hit play. The video is actually 'buffering' on your computer and some computers take longer than others depending on your system. Should fix your problem!

  • Well done!

  • That is beautiful. Thanks for having such a huge heart and compassion for our little bundles of feathers :)

  • I loved the video, but all of the YouTube recordings stop for several seconds and then start up again. They are stopped longer than they are running. What is going on?

  • I can't believe no one said a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

  • Warm fuzzies watching this. :)

  • That was so cool!!! Thanks for saving him!

  • Brought tears to my eyes - such an inspiring video. Thank you for the great film and for saving one of nature's most beautiful creatures. I've saved hummers when they've gone into a coma and fell to the ground. They'd get in an outdoor skylight under a drive through at our house and wouldn't come down. I'd soak their bill in sugar water and they would either smell it or taste it and start drinking, getting their strength back, then fly away.

  • Incredible! Bless you both for helping one of God's little creatures..

  • Really cool video! Great job taking such good care of the baby bird! My eldest son found an injured hummingbird here in Santa Cruz (Live Oak) a few months ago, and we took him to the Native Animal Rescue on 17th Avenue in the Live Oak district of Santa Cruz. We also took an injured, small bat to them that had fallen out of a tree and landed on my shoulder! Eek!

  • Awesome work and filming. We need more people in this world like you people. Thanks so much for sharing. What a heart warming story.

  • I want one.
