mania of change exaust in usa still exisist.but what for?yoshimura-suzuki,muzzy-kawasaki,akrapovic-honda and in my opinion-all garbage ruin bikes look.power maybe 10 horses up.but with vmax 145 hp no sense.like oldtimer said-no difference
I have the same exhaust with 8 discs on each side. I bought my 02 V Max that way. Stock carb jets. Adjusted to idle at 1050 rpms. Runs awesome and sounds like a monster. Do you know if there's much difference in performance between 5 or 8 discs? May I ask how did you settle on using 5 discs? Beautiful bike you have there!
I like it better with no trapps. Was it too loud without? Great video. Everybody should post a vid when changing exhaust, makes it easier to choose one. Thanks ws60dk. My brother's going to get Supertrapps for his wedding gift. Hope his wife enjoys them.
I know I am replying to a 4 month old post but, the concept behind Supertrapps is more discs is more power. I agree that it sounds better with no discs but will not run as good as far as performance and daily driving is concerned unless your carbs are basically tuned for it that way. This might help your brother.
Some good real world info ws60dk & 55. I'm cheap so if I can drop weight, gain a few horses and sound like that without rejetting or dropping a grand on a full system, I think I will be happy. Now to swap that horribly uncomfortable seat on the cheap. Thanks.
So is this something the average wrencher can do in the garage in a weekend, or is there more to it than that? What's this heat fitting stuff, heat gun or torch?
It is something anyone can do. I just used one of those small porpane torches. Had to make the trapp end red hot to allow them to "slip" on. Might be easier by wrapping some ice packs around the bike pipe ends though. Good luck.
The ones I installed are found at the Supertrapp web site under Metric/Megaphone Series. #822-41200 (Black) and #826-41200 (Stainless). PLease note - the "slip-ons" were an interference fit and required substantial heat to "SLIP" them on.

I have a 2005 vmax. I want to modify the exhaust but I am worried... does the engine need a certain amount of back pressure?

Did you end up jetting the carbs?
sum41isftw 3 years ago
I only have 5 discs installed so there was no need jet anything. Supertrapp suggests stock jetting unless you go above 8 discs.
