ortho tri cyclen lo works wonders for acne, but it isnt as good as regular ortho tri cyclen. not one zit ever!! + no period cramps + regular cycle = win!
What? I went to a dermatologist and she prescribed me an acne med, then she suggested that I go to my doctor and ask for birth control pills, so I don't think that a certified professional would suggest birth control pills to someone with acne to make it worst. Gonna have to take em sometime so why not start now.
@gianina17 She never said it couldn't help or that it would make it worse, says herself that her skin was fantastic on hormonal contraceptives because they keep your estrogen levels high and the estrogen blocks antigens that can cause acne. What she is saying is that many have problems when they go off birth control later and their estrogen levels plummet. Also, depending on what's causing your acne BC may not help at all and in rare cases may actually exacerbate the issue.
@gianina17 Really, her main point of concern is the other negative health implications of taking hormonal contraceptives, as manipulating hormone levels in this way puts you at higher risk for breast, ovarian cervical and thyroid cancer as well as increasing your risk of blood clotting, stroke and heart disease. Some individuals experience significant weight gain and are at increased risk of obesity and diabetes. Ask your doctor about these risks and examine your family history.
Can i just ask you how long after you went off birth control did the acne continue to form...cause ive been off birth control for like 4 months now and had a horrible breakout after 2 months but the breakouts are STILL forming....how long does it last....id really like to know...please help. thank you
@spunkytay well I still get some acne to this day, so I can't say it ever stopped for me! But I think mine stems a lot from digestive problems and the like... I've heard before that your hormones should be back to normal no more than 1.5 years after you go off the pill, so if that was the only thing that causes acne for you, then it will go away... but yeah :/ could take a while. A holistic lifestyle will speed it up dramatically though.
Every time I see you I think of Avril Lavigne. I love both of ya'll so ;] anyway i suffer from mild acne and red inflammation. I get myself so upset over my acne. Mine is hormonal... I am on BC right now for my skin but it still continues to be active...(my acne).. I stress myself out to much from my acne so stress causes more acne and acne causes more stress.. I am on the exercise, eat healthy, yoga, binge so hopefully it will start working soon... <3 you rock
@SupaDupaFlyGirl Yes, Avril Lavigne is my celebrity lookalike, I get that a lot! Haha I find it ironic that she reps Proactiv now! Anyway... yes, working on your stress and emotions is so important. I do believe that cycle of stress, more acne, stress, more acne is what made my skin get so out of control... good job on making some good changes! Stick with it, it does take some patience!
@MortieTheDoomed Thank you! I think it's grown to the stage where it actually looks cool when it's down and I think I might keep rocking it this way more often. it was in this awkward length before and just looked better put up.
@thelovevitamin yea keep it =D but hey yknow u actually have the kind of face u can wear whatever u want imo, like u can experiment etc, i think it all would look good on ya! =)

Generally I only get cystic acne when I ovulate or I'm on or near my period but when I took the pill I got them regularly.
