  • the Ronald Reagan of 1920s and most underrated president. Obama should listen to this to learn something

  • lol, gotta love that whiney Massachusetts accent of Silent Cal

  • lol, gotta love that whiney Massachusetts of Silent Cal

  • He sounds like he was a member of the Lillipop League.

  • Yeesh-- no wonder Silent Cal never talked.

  • The man was an incompetent when it came to economics. No wonder he caused the Great Depression, and indeed he did, he set up the debt deflation that marked that time.

  • @lordhighexecutioner Maybe you should go back and study the factual causes of the depression again. How long after Coolidge left, and how many Hoover policies and international problems after WW1 came about before the actual depression started? Go back, check again, then post.

  • You GO "Silent Cal"!!! RIP

  • Stay cool with Coolidge

  • @sandythebear and we did!

  • President Coolidge speaks for himeself: "The people cannot look to legislation generally for success. Industry, thrift, character, are not conferred by act or resolve. Government cannot relieve from toil. It can provide no substitute for the rewards of service. It can, of course, care for the defective and recognize distinguished merit. The normal must care for themselves" Calvin Coolidge, 30th President of the United States, 48th Governor of Massachusetts

  • Great president.

  • OMG! yea.. just like Harding & Hoover...

  • I guess marcostar57 loves Pierce, Carter and Obama

  • @astromike07

I don't know Coolidge has to do w/Pierce Carter, and Obama.... so you must admire "Silent Cal," Hoover, Taft, Harding & hmm say Benjamin Harrison .. all ranked so highly by historians.

  • So Coolidge must be poster boy for the Rethuglicant's philospohy that "the bad ol' government" is the problem...

  • Well, dimwit, he is the poster boy, along with Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, John Adams, Patrick Henry, Ben Franklin, and so many more.

  • He had a New England voice...

  • marco...the Dems know how to run cities...

    Detroit, Philly, Chicago, Newark...

    All Democrat success stories...

  • One of our best presidents.

  • It was the FED who caused the depression not coolidge

  • Guess who was running for VP on the same ticket as Harding and Coolidge's opponent in 1920? New York governor Franklin Delano Roosevelt.

  • This recording is not from 1920. It is the soundtrack of a Lee DeForest Phonofilm made at the White House in the Summer of 1924. It is somewhat speeded up here. This film is on YouTube. Another DeForest film, shot against the South Portico, was made in mid-1925, and is not on YouTube.

  • When all the old dinosaur historians die off, Coolidge will be found to be a far better president than that self righteous, bigoted, wrong-headed fool Woodrow Wilson.

  • Calvin Coolidge has been wrongly maligned by history.

  • what's wrong with calvin coolidge?

he was far better than woodrow wilson or fdr

a real conservative, i'm glad he withdrew from the dominican republic. woodrow wilson has to be the worse president ever

  • I agree with you 100%; Wilson was the worst president ever: he gave us the Federal Reserve and the wrong-headed notion that America should "save the world." He also was a bigot and a self-righteous control freak.

  • Thanks for the bubble that caused the great depression Cal.

  • Coolidge left office in March of 1929. So, obviously, Cooidge was to blame for a 30% drop in the money supply in 1930-33? And the Smoot-Hawley Tariff of 1930. And the fact that Hoover raised the top rate of the income tax from 24% to 60%, and Roosevelt raised it to 89%. Yeah--that was all Coolidge's fault.

  • The speculative housing bubble was built up during his administration, leaving a terrible mess for others to clean up.

  • And THAT was sufficient to cause a 12-year Depression?

  • Yes, plus the response to it by Hoover and Mellon.

  • But they were both gone in March of 1933.

  • The president does not control the country, not then not now. the federal reserve controls the money supply, can cause a depression by calling in loans and not issuing new ones, thereby benefitting from foreclosures, benefits from inside knowledge of low and high prices, from new power given to them to solve the problems they caused which were blamed on others.

  • what a wanker of a president

  • go calvin!
