I hate this thing, it only works with the lowest resolution setting. Why? Because the higher you go in resolution the worse of a delay there is with the audio. At 1080p there is a full 2.5 second delay between the audio and video.

2. 720p (1280 × 720, 30 fps)

3. VGA (640 × 480, 30 fps)

I have this camera, I was kind of disappointed, sure its the best videocam I've had, but I was expecting a better resolution from a 1080P. The image stabilizer was kind of shaky and the built in mike sounds very static when its windy. But I'll be practicing a lot more with it, will probably get better results next time.

You can get one on Amazon for about $99 now.

eBay has used ones for $70-$80. Some sellers on eBay even include an SD card.

The Kodak Zx3 is great too. It is waterproof but doesn't have an external mic input like the Zi8. If you want something more rugged, wait for the Kodak Zx5 (new version of Zx3) that will be released on March 28. It is waterproof, dust proof, and shock proof.

@VidsBySS thanks for that info i just research it and for some reason im still in love with the zi8 i think the only differences between the 2 is that the Zx5 is water proof and has a share button so im still going to get the zi8. besides im going to edit my videos so the share button wouldn't be much of a use to me tho i would like to take some under water shots lol but not a big deal i cant wait lol thanks

@FireyFiringFire I got mine through Amazon. It actually came from one of their partners (I forget who). The basic Kodak box is solid and protects the camera nicely. The shipper put the Kodak box in a larger box with very good padding. Unless they run the truck over it, it should arrive safely.

I don't know about the export rules and power adapter.

@wilsvlog The reason I bought this camera was for the external mic port. I got an AT lapel microphone and it is incredibly better quality than the built-in mic. Before I tried this, I thought I'd have to record the audio separately and synch it up. Ugh!

Amazon as of 9/27/10 has the Zi8 for $125. Great demo and this video just sold me on the Zi8. The external microphone and able to upgrade the memory as well as high quality video was the selling point to me.

The picture looks good but it's still shaky - even with the the onboard image stabilization. I highly recommend the readysteady, a pocket camera stabilizer for pocket camcorders.

I have the Kodak Zi6 and it freezes up all the time, I downloaded the firmware update to support 32 gig – it still freezes up. I really like the sound on it Verses other pocket cams in its class. Does the Zi8 freeze-up? If not it will be my next pick.
