brilliant, chords are spot on - did you work them out yourself or did you get hold a song book? I've never seen a song book for the nightfly, some of the steely dan song books are a bit dodgy - i've got one that's really accurate for the intro/verse for Bad Sneakers but then the chorus is completely wrong.
@logosthedestroyer Boy, That 1978 Rhodes Mark 1 sounds great! You've got some skills as a keyboardist as well. Enjoyed listening to it. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Amazing! I wish I could play that! Steely Dan rules! Maybe Donald Fagen and Walter Becker will look you up, just like that Filipino guy that is the lead singer for Journey!
The sound of a Rhodes is absolute HEAVEN bro U did a Beautiful job. I do Calves of Atamira on Guitar and i play for a friend when i 1st learn it and made mistakes and he said ''You're suppose to make mistakes on Steely Dan's stuff,, lol.
Yeah, man! I enjoyed this very much and was singing the lyrics along with your accompaniment. (Your diminished descending appregios at 2:23 elicited a jumbo smile on my face:)
That sounds just great. You really nailed the sound. I just finished restoring a '76 Mk I. Love the Dan, love your videos. How bout New Frontier, and Any Major Dude?
Ah nice, thanks! I want to get around to doing the voicing properly on mine at some point. Right now I don't have it though... hope to get it back in about a month's time. I was actually thinking of posting Any Major Dude. I haven't tried playing it yet though but I think I have it in my head
Thanks Logosthedestroyer. After seeing Steely Dan at the Chicago theater Sept. 3rd, I found your videos on YouTube and I am enjoying them. I wish I had your skills... and access to such awesome instruments.
Hey thanks for the comment, I really appreciate it. Yes this is an awesome instrument. It suprised me how much of that sound does come through with the effects, the chorus in particular. The dry sound is pretty different!
This sounds really nice... Have you mimicked Don's Phaser via Logic? I'm not a keyboard player (a guitarist) but I always thought of that last chord as a 'James Bond' chord. Possibly called a minor with an augmented 7th and a suspended 9th (?Possibly?). On the guitar I do the chord (from low to high): A, A flat, C, E, B. Maybe you'll hear what I mean by 'Bond'?
Yeah trying to! I need a decent preamp (or a preamp full stop) though to get a more beefy sound. Unfortunately I'm broke. I see what you mean I suppose, although I have not really watched james bond films but I think I know what you mean. Erm I would say maybe it could be described as a Am9sh11? You know though I would doubt Fagen thinks of it that way, I think by the way he arranges he adds density to chords until they 'feel' right. Great vids you've posted btw
Thanks for your reply (and checking my vids too). Yeah, agree, Don does add that density (and so, quite often, on the relative chordal limitations of the guitar, it can often appear to be one chord or another when you try and work something out). In fact, this seems more apparent on later Steely/Don songs. Good luck with finding that 'pre amp'.
Hi, it is a 1978 mark 1, run through Logic Pro 8 on my Mac with a few phasers, chorus effects and some EQ on the bottom and top ends to bring them out
could you post the notes to the chorus of this preferably if u want to the whole song!!!! but i knw that takes time but id appreciate the chorus notes including base em... as follows i suppose:
This is really cool and one of my best Fagen songs ever. Thanks a bunch for choosing this song to play. Would love to hear you play"New Frontier" as well... You really managed to get the true touch and feeling in the songs. Would be awesome to hear your Tribute Steely Dan band here on YouTube if it comes true!
Just found all your good work on various Dan / Fagen tracks - pretty amazing stuff. I am thinking about a Dan / Fagen tribute band (utter complete madness I know). Know anyone who might be up for that?
I'm an average drummer but I know another drummer who is totally up for it. I also have a guitar player in the frame. I fancy the challenge of bass (played drums for a long time) and you are surely the keyboards man? Also know some BVs who might be up for it. Saw the real act recently - exceeded all expectations. Got a set list too!!
Donald fagan has such a distinguishing sound in the way he plays keyboard.

great-I had the Mark 1 but sold it-miss it
but the vast.s works fine like mrRay73 + 22 .Or Lounge Lizard.
This was nice to see as I need to work out some more SD tunes.
And I never cared for those small dots.
I currently play Home at last, Maxine,Babylon sisters;,Walk between the raindrops,Peg;Josie; The goodbye look.

I rate the album Goucho as the greatest ever made and was hooked after hearing Babylon sisters in -86 I beleave.
Did you know the stole the titletrack at least to much to consider it a coincidence?
But ofcourse I enjoy SD:s version better even if so.

Ohh i forgot. You nailed the sound as well.I'm often disappointed with keyboardist trying to emulate Fagen's sound but you made my day with that one.

sorry bad manip.
You should really edit a Dan songbook of your own.You always nail the voicings which are so typical of Fagen. You'd get rich in no time.
Keep up the good work.
You're the best on Youtube and Dan's music is the best.
