Very helpful. I'm planning to cut out a 16-inch round table top and hand-sand the edges, but have never done it before. $9 piece of glass and a cutter, if I do it myself, or $108 to a glass shop.
I ordered a circle cutter. It arrived today. Do I need cutting oil? I do not have glass cutting oil. I have thread cutting oil for metal. Can I substitute the thread cutting oil, or something else that is cheaper or more common than glass cutting oil? Please advise,
@Right2Know In case your question hasn't been answered, score the area where you want your hole, lightly and evenly, and then drip hot water along the seam slowly and evenly, make sure the water is very hot. After that is done, drip cold water on the seam similarly to how you dripped hot water on. Rinse and repeat until the hole falls out. Enjoy
@Right2Know :: you score a circle, then a smaller concentric circle. Then you score a square with an x through it inside the smaller circle. Then you score arcs between the outside and inside circle. Tap around the outer circle so you can see a breakage line starting throughout it. Then do the same on the inside circle. Then tap carefully and patiently at the central triangles till you get one or two out. Then carefully pry off the rest of the chunks.

I have the same idea/question as Right2Know. How do you cut a cirle within a square piece and remove it safely.

I'm guessing the only way would be to drill a hole, and then use a jig saw, coping saw or band saw with a glass cutting blade.

How do you cut a hole in glass and save the rectangular part? That is, I want a rectangular piece of glass with a round hole in it? Can you do that?
