Cool^_^ This dog is pretty much like the australian shepherd right? I've got a aussi and she just runs around like crazy also lol. Tons of deers over here where I live. Is the blue heeler bigger?
your dog is freaking cute!! :) oh and by the way I wouldn't be so worried about the tail docking , yes it's cruel what the owner did to rose but it's usually done when they're a couple of days old so the nerve endings arent developed in their tail and so it's a painless procedure, here in Australia it's only legal to dock your dogs tail if it's a pig herder because pigs can do alot of damage to a herding dogs tail. I have a blue heeler too :)
@jesiicaable Thanks, I think she's pretty cute myself. She's the best dog I've ever had or even been around. If you're willing to put in a little work they're the best breed.
Have you ever thought that she might be a stumpy tailed blue heeler? Both of my dogs were born with no tails because they are 3/4 and half stumpy tails.
@summ83 I've heard some ACDs are bred with stumpy tails. The rancher we got her from told me he docked it and some of her siblings had tails. I was biased to want an ACD with a tail because I feel choosing a dog with a docked tail promotes the practice and I don't want to do that. But seeing Rose interact with her siblings it was obvious she was more independent and curious. She seemed like the best fit for us and I couldn't let my bias stop me from picking her. It was the right choice.
Fantastic. I haven't laughed that hard in a while and I had a heeler for 11 years and I tell you what, this brought back lots of good memories. Thanks for posting!
@TheWojomatic I'm glad the video made you happy. Rose, brings joy to me everyday. She's my four-legged little buddy. I take her everywhere and people are always surprised how well behaved she is. And cute ;)
We have a blue heeler and a catahoula. They will chase each other through our open downstairs when they both get a certain burst of energy and it's hilarious. I love it!
great dog love her the way she play's in the snow i have 1 to we are living in belgium he is alsow crazy about the snow :) acd are the best breeds ther is
Great companions, as well as great dogs! They are pretty tough when they are puppies, but if you can make it through, it's well worth it! My last Heeler got stolen. My dog now is what I call a Blue-ish Heel-ish! She's a mix, mostly Heeler, but not quite. She's got all the traits.
I have an ACD called Asja, we also have her mother Crash =) I must say it is nice to see an ACD from outside Australia (I am an Australian) that actually looks true to the breed!! so many supposed ACD's bred in other countries often don't look quite the same even ones meant to be pure bred, but your dog does, nearly as gorgeous as mine!! I have a picture vid on my page of Asja if you want to look but she is 6 now and only about 3 in the vid.
Because all the heelers didn't have tails... It was a means of identification. Hope this answers some of the questions. My heeler has a tail, I prefer it that way.
To answer the tail questions... Working dogs on big ranches have the tails docked at birth to prevent livestock from stepping on it... But the major reason tails were docked originated in Australia, where the breed was started on large ranches. Red heelers look identical to the native dingo... The tails were docked to prevent accidental shooting of a cattle dog instead of a roaming dingo chasing livestock. The ranchers would simply shoot the red dog with a tail, because all the heelers did
Rose is a Smithfield Blue heeler, they are born without a tail.Any Blue heeler has the Smithfield gene, and can be the parent of a full Smithfield puppy.
@antton77 We got Rose from a cattle ranch and they dock most of the working dog's tails so they don't get stepped on by cattle. It is sad she doesn't have her tail, but it would be more sad if we would have passed her by because of it.
@mingusobannon dogs tails do not get stepped on by cattle. anyways, great dog and you should invest in a wide angle lens so we can see rose's zoomies in all glory.
@wewillforgetthisname Thanks for the good word. Rose always smiles when I tell her people from the internet like her. I agree with your sentiment, dogs shouldn't have their tails docked. Sometimes I think about Rose's little stumpy tail and it makes me sad, but it would be more sad if I would have rejected her for what someone else did to her tail. Many ranchers dock tails because they have been stepped on, but I would guess that's poor training or a dog too young to work.
@antton77 Believe it or not, there actually is a reason for docking tails. Like the poster said, they normally do it when they are actually working dogs to avoid injuries. Now, doing it just for show, I'm of course, against.
Is Rose a Smithfield (the natural stumpy tail)? I have an ACD - Smithy who had a red mum and blue dad. He's red with a blue saddle and blue flecks. Sadly he has a number of health problems (undescended testie, among others) and gets terrible separation anxiety. So far I've had awful luck with ACD's. When I lived in the US I had another who I suspect was inbreed, due to the conditions of the breeders home where we got him.. He bit anyone that came near. *sigh*
haha my ACDC will roll in the last remaining snow piles in the yard in spring. My blue healer is a smart one, but he cant touch my kelpie in a straight line or cornering....... hes learned to lay low behind objects and ambush. As much as I love that, he is the most loyal dog i have ever had.
Hey what a great video you did there...loved it , you did well to keep up with her racing around, made me really smile, just like Diesel...They just are the best of breeds of dog, we are so lucky!
