In its year of release, even though this is a very simple operating system, it has very heavy printed manuals which contains installation instructions.
Apolgies people; I've recently reworked my site, and I've managed to misplace the Win 1 image... If I can find where I've left it I'll stick a new link up, but for those after it I originally got it from vetusware, so check 'em out.
Right people, all I did was download the Windows 1.0 Floppy image originally from Vetusware, which allows Windows 1.0 to be run from the floppy disc, no installation required (because I was having trouble "installing" windows 1.0 in a virtual machine.
To make things easier, I've uploaded the Floppy image I use and added a link to the video description.
Just create a new virtual machine and mount this as floppy image. Then leave it there, as the virtual pc will boot from that image always :)
Right, is it IMA format? If so, just create a new Virtual Machine. Boot it up, and mount the IMA as the floppy drive. Let it boot from the IMA. It should then either instal Windows 1, or simply boot Windows 1 from the floppy. If this is the case, then simply leave the IMA mounted and there you go, you have a fully functional Virtual maching running Win1 (off a floppy disc).
but i've downloaded it!! it was just saved as disk1 and disk2.RAR!! i used WinImage, but virtual pc didn't accept it :( can i get a download link that isn't like that?
That's were I got this. This is running in VirtualPC. I had the exact same problem after actually installing this and other early versions of Win from IMAs. However this is actually the floppy version (boots and runs from a floppy image that I have mounted constantly). The image I downloaded from Vetusware <- AMAZING SITE!!!
But yeah, as of yet the oldest version of Win I can run from a VirtualHD under VirtualPC is eiher Win98 (DOS) or WinNT4 (NT).
And the price for this was 99$. Anyway, at that time it was a revolutionary system.

@lukebccb Actually, while Vista sucked on release, it's updates made it a decent operating system so long as you know how to care for your computer.
However, it IS better than the Mac :P

That's Windows 1.01.
Windows 1.0 is hard to find.
About the network, it doesn't support it, but if DOS has network, Windows 1.x can interact with it to access to the network.
Proof: I've got an online game x)
