  • I remember some folks who owned cottages in

Canada on the Erie shore....they would run a hose out many feet out into the lake and bury the hose with the bucket protecting the hose from unwanted collections. It worked fine.

  • I hope you have hope for Obama.

    You both suck.;

  • There is more to water purification than this, this is actually a way to remove sediment like organic materials. Charcoal should also be added, it will remove hazardous chemical compounds that may be present within the water. A good 15 minute boiling of the water after filtration is much safer. Oxygenating the water will help with taste, just pour water back and forth between 2 cups and swallow.

  • Yep, ignorant, hate-filled presenter...

  • Great idea, glad you shared it. These morons who are lambasting you are just scared now that you had mention the apocalypse. They will be the ones who, after the stores are sold out of water, will be scratching their heads regarding how to make a filter. Dirty water... drink up morons.

  • that's got to be the most laim explanation I have ever herd. People! there's a little more to it than that.

  • OMG this girl looks ANOREXIC im sure she will not survive the apocalypse

  • patronizing bitch

  • @Gordonisafreeman I want to sock this bitch in her stupid fucked up face.

  • @TheMuslimKiller Maybe someone wants to sock you in the goddamn face troll.

  • @Bradpercifull Maybe you should pull your mom off my dick, she's choking.

  • @TheMuslimKiller LOL I love how you talk dirty to me.... keep it up kiddo.

  • oh yeah.. she is indeed hot!

  • A Don't get the sand from the local shooting range

B Don't get the sand from anywhere the U.S./NATO, whatever, raided a country

C Don't use sand that glows green in the dark and tend to crawl towards you

B Don't use the sand the dog is sniffing so interested on

F Don't call the Sandman for sand.

  • Very helpful video...you conveyed a lot of information in a short, entertaining video.

  • Next time you want to convey information that might help people try not to start out by comparing mexicans to terrorists. Remember that indians and mexicans owned this land before the damn britts. ame over and slaughtered them to take the land. Your stupid ignorant comment was very offensive, but I gouess when your IQ is below room temperature you cannot help yourself. stop making videos, your ugly and stupid to boot.

  • @shennandoah66

Insulting someone for being 'stupid' when you don't even know the difference between 'your' and 'you're' is stupid. Get a sense of humor and don't be so sensitive.

  • @shennandoah66 you're fuckin RETARDED!!

Clearly she was being "facetious". Do you even know what that word means?

  • @shennandoah66 Well considering she looks to be part Mexican I'm sure her comment was satirical which makes you look kind of retarded.

  • Water Crisis - A Solution.wmv

  • Despite the ignorance in the world, How can someone promote a self-sstable life style with such a comment? I believe she was following a script. Had she'd been an educated being she wouldn't had followed the script...

Regardless of the ignorance of the script ''Writer" it was useful info.

Tasteless & poorly executed none the less....

  • Thanks

  • Dumb bitch.

  • @cichlid62 WHAT THE HELL IS YOUR MALFUNCTION !!!

  • @serger2010 If anyone has a malfunction is this dumb bitch. god speed dees nuts.lol

  • @cichlid62 WOW REALLY I DONT THINK YOUR ELEVATOR GOES TO THE TOP FLOOR !!!

  • As I recall, this presenter is another one of those who's is against civilian ownership of firearms. Even if this bio-sand filter she's talking about worked to make questionable water safe (which as has already been pointed out, it doesn't), in an SHTF scenario she'd soon find her "safe" water being taken from her by someone who was armed, be it a civilian or simply a thirsty policeman who no longer had a job to report to.

  • Hahaha how to survive the mexicans! lol

  • @ 1:41 scrape off the crap layer that forms? That takes 2-3 weeks to form and is needed to clean the water. I would NOT scrape this layer off !

  • I think I'm in LOOOOOVE!

  • after society is wiped all we are all gona be concernd about brushing our teeth what kind of propaganda is this. for dentists and floride?

  • sand does not remove all the bacteria or viruses.. good luck with montezumas revenge he..

  • Penny it is competition for resourses that has given us the genetic trait of banning together for protection. You are right it would be great if we could just love each other in a big communist utopia but unfortunately that is why communism doesn't work we are not brain washed we are brain wired..

  • what about radioactive water after the nuclear apocalypse

  • Sex Version: Drink a glass of water,Then jizzed it out =D

  • BioSand filters are good but her design sucks check out some other videos on them.

  • How da hell the Mexicans gonna bring about the apocalypse of the entire world wtf?

    I'm slightly offended...

  • @ziggyzagman shes taking the piss mate

  • I guess u bucket-bong guys are already kitted up then.

Arrrm, the most crucial part of this filter would be the mid layer of hard, black, rocky charcoal, as its still the worlds best purifier.

& when making ur charcoal, don't use treated pine, its treated with cyanide, try to only ever use untreated timbers.

    Happy Apocalypse 8)

  • Ha, ha, that's funny - just remember to get it right next time & replace Mexican with any/all of the 5 "Nations" that can't be kicked out of the UN.

  • This woman is NOT a "freakin idiot.". She gives a simple understandable, correct basic explanation of how a biological sand filter works. I have been studying, building and testing these for 4 years.

  • This woman is a freakin idiot,,,who ever told her she knew anything about sand filters...Jezz If you drink anything from this junk pile your will be dead in 3 to 6 days...God Speed...LOL

  • This woman is a freakin idiot,,,who ever told her she knew anything about sand filters...Jezz

  • So much nitpicking. Since I don't care to drink brown water, first use this filter and then boil the water. (I have two reverse osmosis filtering units. FYI) Yes, you can boil the water, let the vapor turn into water drops, get drinking water, wait for ever for a full glass of water and then clean up all the guck left behind. Or get the guck out first and simply boil the water for a lot less time since you wouldn't have that much fuel (of any type). All you experts how about a video.

  • Haha, I'm hoping this is a skit because that is NOT a biosand filter. What she just pitched is a variation of a slow sand filter, which is a centuries old technology and, while it does help filter water a little bit, is definitely not going to make water safe to drink, unlike a real biosand filter. If you want to see real biosand filters, check out my channel, I made a lot of videos when I lived in Haiti and ran a biosand filter project there. Cheers!

  • thats a freaky intro

  • Make Room, Make Room.....for a second serving of Soylent Green

  • When will I be able to hook that thing up to my tap ??

  • @matthewb2015 Too funny! How about never.

  • SEXY!!!!!!!

  • You better boil that water if you use this method.

  • If only it where that easy!! It will not work if you follow what the pretty lady says.... Rather see the proper way to build a biosand filter here ( CAWST Biosand filter)

  • Not PVC lol, it leaks phtalates. :P But LOL at this video.

  • @frickinmatchbox *Phthalates, that is.

  • Everytime I get online, I end up looking at corn.

  • BONG!

  • After you do this you might consider filtering it by alembic/retort or still...in other words distilled.

  • haha Dick Cheney ;D that's the most likely one for sure

  • lol, after dick cheney has ended the world...

Also, the apocalypse is a hoax.

  • lol, after dick cheney has ended the world...

  • lol, dick cheney

  • What do you think of people that slouch and slump?

I really want to slouch more. How am I doing?

    watch?v=ruEkw2B-6pI

How come women look so sexy when they slouch, and I look like a slob?

  • Did she say "god peed" at the end? Peed into the bucket perhaps?

  • I'd rather have a glass of red wine with The Resident!

  • hot girl. let's screw :)

  • I suggest you remove this video. You are totally misleading people and you may actually kill someone, seriously. Drink your treated water you claim to be clean and let me know what literally comes out of you.

  • I live in alaska and know about purifying water. Uh, you need to boil the water after you filter it through your filter you made here. If not, you could be shitting for over a week such as protzoa. I cannot believe you left out boiling you water. Well, you live in New York. What would you know? Oh, if you think I am wrong, take a crap in your toliet and invite a few others, dip a large cup in that toliet, then run that water through your home made filter. have a drink when you are done? uh, no?

  • That's what I was thinking. The very least you'll get is a sore throat. I wouldn't want to risk getting tapeworms or disentary.

  • I just got through watching the news about the flood of Biblical proportions in the upper Indus basin of Pakistan and thought of this video. It's low tech so it just might help purify the water somewhat. You still might want to boil the water for cooking.

  • This is not an adequate water filtration method for any sort of apocalyptic event... If the zombies don't getcha, being misinformed about food prep will!

  • A most excellent example of trickle-down theory.

  • Instead of gravel one can use stockings or better yet tampons ...preferably the Tampax Mother Nature brand ...but not used ones...Please :-)

  • Nice Lori! But one need not go this urban primitive...All you need is a terracotta or non glazed ceramic bowl dish or flower pot ,fill with water ,it will naturally leak trough its pores even kills bacteria & removes odors, but mine has been done for thousands of years already,so I vote for your Tupperware Sand Bong [TSB] version...Viva La progress :-)

  • if the world is over where would i be standing?

  • i like this one

  • But this won't kill the bacteria (or remove radioactive particles, which may be a problem post-apocalypse)!

  • @sarahkirky

then just boil it over a fire

  • Can one pee in the bucket as well?

  • @admeyerme

Yes, urine is not toxic though it can be irritating to skin and eyes. High concentrations in the blood can cause damage to organs of the body. However, after suitable processing (as is done, for example, on the International Space Station), it is possible to extract potable water for drinking.

You take a glass of that an then let me know :)

  • @admeyerme LMAO

    u wana drink pee ?

  • This will come in handy for when after the jews get us into another world war.

  • Shit i thought thats how you make a bong a really BIG bong 0:47

  • The Resident is doing survivalist videos. NOW im afraid...

  • @reverendbart I wholeheartly agree

  • Comment removed

  • after you filter it..its always a good idea of boiling your water..to help purify it...good video!

  • this is bad advise my love, the water still wont be micro biologically safe. You'd need reverse osmosis for that and/or maybe UV rays to really be sure. Ps: I love you

  • @supercalifragable correct!!!!! how she missed this is beyond me.

  • I like you

  • The water may be clean but not pure. The sand alone won't prevent impurities and diseases from getting through. You're misleading people. You also need a layer of straw or moss on top and a carbon layer below. Rely on your method alone Lori, and you'd be better off kissing Dick Chaney's ass!

  • @G58 I would love to see her drink this water that she claims to be clean and then ask why is she shitting herself 24 hours later.

  • thanks, but i'll take my chances with my mudkip

  • Thanks for that tip.... Now can you advise how I will be able to make some Whiskey during the event....

  • Great survival tip, Lori. Godspeed!

  • Will it work on salt water? Hmmm must try.

  • Great tip - thank!

  • What about my some of neighbours who will come to me and urge me, at gun point no doubt, to hand over my clean water?

I'm sure they will be there because in the case of an apocalypse no one will uphold the law anymore. If I haven't filtered my water yet they will want my bucket and my pipe, and my sand and gravel.

So why bother unless you're the most proliferated one around?

Still, keep up the good work! I've been watching you for years and will keep doing so.

  • @aaronstonebeat If you still have neighbors, it isn't the apocalypse. If for some reason you and your neighbor are the only people still around, eat them.

  • Hey Lori, A fifty gallon bucket is no longer a bucket, it becomes a drum somewhere betwwen 25 and 35. Have you seen "the colony" on discovery. Man that show is a how to on surving the end of the world. From fuel to electricity to communication. you're hot.

  • thanks I am sure I will use that information.

  • Cool tip! This is also very similar to how a leach or septic system works, which will also be important when the public sewage system fails.

  • 0:34 "a pipe of some sort"

Yeah, I BET you need a pipe of some sort.

/Guys can make anything about sex. Even the apocalypse.

  • The "filtered" water would be clear, but NOT clean. Huge difference. While this sand filter would prevent the passage of any obviously visible particles, it has no effect on the presence of minute micro- or nano- scale particles including a wide variety of toxins. You might as well drink the dirty water you had to begin with.

Better solution: a) simple distillation apparatus, which denatures the bad stuff and other organic compounds b) diluting it with reasonable amounts of chlorine c) drink!

  • @IndianPrince04 brilliant. you are absolutely correct. sand, gravel, charcoal will remove many particles and the water will be clear but not safe to drink. The scraping the bad bacteria on the top of the sand and good bacteria eating the bad bacteria is the craziest crap I ever heard.

  • @IndianPrince04 "Better solution: a) simple distillation apparatus"

    better solution... boil that shit!

  • @baezalejandro Hey distillation is boiling; however, it takes it one step further. It separates mixtures based on boiling point, leaving you with clean drinking water.

Simply boiling the dirty water will leave the gunk in the bottom of the solution. It will also evaporate all the drinking water into the air lol.

  • @IndianPrince04 actually the bio sand filter is a real working proven filter that cleans and makes the water safe to drink but i don't know if this is how to properly make one

  • @IndianPrince04 Pardon me sir, Is there a way to clean water without making it poison? I mean by having chlorine in it? I realize chlorine is good for killing living things but it causes a lot of damage to humans even to let it touch your skin. I realize at a time like the end of the world you may not worry about arterial scarring etc.. but just curious if you have other methods?

  • @sloppymantis Yup chlorine's a hazard, but it's not a concern if you add it in insignificant amounts. In fact it's ideal to add chlorine at a rate of 1 tsp/10 gallons& adding more gives you diminishing benefits. Wondering how I came up with this ratio? That's the same molecular weight ratio at which you'd find chlorine in the body- yes, you have chlorine in your own system. But if the world were ending, forget about the Chlorine. I'm a biochemist & got a bit carried away writing that comment.

  • @IndianPrince04 enlightening. thank you thats like 651 ppm. that seems high though

  • Yeah, hydrogen peroxide. Better than chlorine at sanitizing everything.

  • @jpenneyatyahoodotcom If only we could have brainwashed the minds of the world to love each other rather than brainwash them with competition, bias and separation.. we probably wouldnt have to worry so much about such a terrible scenario.. because you could count on any living humans to band together and help each other.

  • @jpenneyatyahoodotcom Use of Chlorine produces a number of very harmful secondary stuffs.

  • @IndianPrince04 And whose wooden fence will you be scavenging for fuel wood during this apocolypse? Come and get mine, I dare yuh.

  • Comment removed

  • @IndianPrince04 Or you could just drink beer.

  • Neat. Thanks, Lori. Sure hope I never need to know this. Maybe if I just learn Spanish I'll be spared.

  • The good thing about this is that you can just pee right back into the filter bucket and not have to look for water elsewhere so much.

  • @bizzee1 Just remember to pee into the sand, not the pipe in the center. That would be bad. Unless you're into that sort of thing.

  • You seem to have a knack for educating people about clean drinking water.

  • Google "nanotech water filter"

  • damn mexicans i knew they would be then end of us hahaha jk i love tacos

  • God speed young one and that is good enough advice should I need a water filter in a pinch.

  • I'm scared !! MOMMIE!!!

  • United States has more chances of ending the world than Al-Qaeda or Mexicans. They are the threat.

  • Be sure your sand is pure. Don't use mine tailings from a lead mine or any source you have not tested for purity. Uranium mine tailings are the worst media you can use. A pure charcoal filter is best. What looks good isn't always so..except for Lori. :o)

  • @Twostones00 Lori is in New York. Do you expect many uranium mines around there?

  • @CommentorX No. I do not know about New York. But there are some near me and people used the tailing sands for home construction projects and backfill. It caused their property to be condemmed.

  • Do you mean a 5 gallon bucket? Not to be too technical but 50 gallons is very big.

I'm in NJ, we have plenty of sand and gravel. Good to go.

  • @waveoflight good call..........

  • I need to save this vid to a portable device so I can watch it after electricity goes out.

  • This filter looks like a giant bong.

  • this will prolong the suffering american way

  • Now you need to make a "How to make your own bow and arrow to protect the biosand filter and water" in the coming Apocylpse...... (no guns, they are loud....and will only signal others..... use arrows for the silent kill).

  • Thanks. Now I can just toss that damn Brita thingy in the frig.

  • next can you make a video on how to build a nuke I have plenty of uranium left

  • why mohamad RAPE his own aunt?

  • bear would be proud.

  • do you think the jehovas witnesses will still keep knocking on peoples doors even after the apocalypse?

  • There's a million different water filters on the market. One of the cheaper ones is the 'Big Berkey' gravity fed drip filters. (Remember, electricity will NOT be available)

  • @RAMKING61 you can buy a ceramic filter such as msr which I used from streams and waterfalls while kayaking. you pump it into a water bag designed to hold the filter in place but she has no idea what I am talking about and never heard of Msr. The girl has lost it on this video big time.

  • Hello,Lori.

Depending on the nature of the Apocalypse, many may not survive long after. Big city dwellers may be the largest casualty group.I hope you make it.

But, with no internet, we will be at a loss to discover any more survival ideas you may want to share.

  • Boil the water o.o

  • Did you actually do serious research on this, or just take the word of the first survivalist DIY site you came across? All the sand does is act as a filter. There is no "active layer" of bacteria - either good or bad. While some bacteriological processes might be occuring, these are not what render the water "clean." And a warning - if you use water from a farm yard, or the like, it will not be safe to drink. though it will look "clean." Sand filters remove particulates only.

  • @hotmailpoet You would be far better off to get a medicine bottle - the kind with an eye dropper - clean it, and fill with bleach {chlorine, for those who don't know.} way smaller than hauling around a 50 gallon barrel, sand, gravel, pipes..... you get the idea. 1 drop of bleach per 1 gallon of drinking water. Let stand one hour. Treat twice if the water is "very" questionable - like the East River. You could drink the water from a sewer {treat more than twice!!!} and survive.

  • @hotmailpoet congratulations, you are the smartest person so far and that is including her. I would say this is the most inaccurate video one could make. She is basically telling people that you can have safe drinking water without any iodine, boiling, bleach, Uv light, or other chemicals and a layer of sand will work. It is part and not the whole but she totally did not read the last paragraph of where she got this information.

  • @hotmailpoet Using this with rain water, from being placed in a yard, may reduce the aamount of bacteria. Boiling the resultant water would be a common sense step to add.

  • @hotmailpoet Brilliant!!! You are absolutely correct!!! where does sand come into with scraping bacteria off? I mean this is the worst advice ever. I suggested she take a crap in her toliet, invite other to do so, and then take some water from the toliet and run it through her filter system here and have a nice drink of water. She will be shitting big time due to a lack of proper STERILIZATION of the water. Sand does not sterilze the water or distill it or kill all the bacteria. good call!!!!

  • you should also put a layer of charcoal, it helps filter out more bad things that would otherwise pass though the sand

  • @tonyrueb yep, charcoal would help and then some boiling but she is not drinking the water. what does she care. LOL

  • bucket check, pipe check, gravel check, sand check.. How long does it take?

  • OMG I met this chick on the Subway

  • Wait. Good bacteria eat bad bacteria?

Do bacteria really eat bacteria? Isn't there some sort of processes to set up "good bacteria" with the sand or does all sand just come standard with good bacteria?

Do the bad bacteria just lay down and let the good ones eat them?

    Good and bad... really???

  • hello every bawdy i am dick cheny i heard about this video i just wanted to say ur gna get sued., defamation of a public figure is against the constiution. so yeah all of you are noe bwing watched by the fbi so give me all your . hold on my mom just came in to get my laudry ok shes gone now so where was i? oh yeah im dick chainy and i dont approve of this message i want u all dead wait i mean no oh great guys u have a filter? le tme in your club house

  • It is not "Dick Cheney," it is "Cheney the Dick!"

  • It's even better if have charcoal.

  • good one

  • Lori good vid but, wouldn't you need to also boil the water at the end?? (saw it a couple of times on 'the colony')

  • @TheBraniac79 yes, for her to not say you need to boil confirms the woman lives in a city and only boils water for cooking pasta. I mean for someone educated and does her research, you might as well talk about going hunting for bears but never show the person how to load the gun. Duh!!! Epic shit your pants for a week, duh!!!!

  • Hi, Lori! Don't worry about the Apocalypse - that happened back in 1980. Your bio sand filter is a variation on the standard rainwater filter people have been using with home cisterns for years. There are other reasons besides End of the World scenarios for saving rainwater, ie flushing your toilet with - reasonably clean - water. I'm planning to put in a rainwater collection/cistern system for the 100 year old Arts & Crafts house I'll be moving into this next season. It'll be so all time!

  • Hahahahaha, Ooh Lori, Lori, Lori...what would I do without you. Cheers.

  • "Zombie survival guide" - check

bucket full of gravel and sand - check

    Now I'm ready for everyting

  • @964BOO You will survive now!

  • @964BOO it's also a very good idea to keep some activated carbon (same as a. charcoal) on a dry container, then you make these layers: gravel, charcoal, sand. join this with a water collection system like a large plastic carpet to gather up rainwater.

And you are all set up on the water front... now if you could only rebuild and repopulate

  • nice :D when the zombies come ill remember this

  • f*** that, give me guns and Jesus.

  • @vichiousfishes Hahahaha.

  • @vichiousfishes LOL. 5 stars.
