@okmedia I used a cheap logitech usb camera, less than $15 at the time. I admit that was a waste of electricity for that time, I forget which software I used but it was freeware and only took photos using an adjustable setting for degree of movement from second to second.
It was created as individual files, the raw avi was only around a hundred megabytes, which when using the divx codec and resized to a lower resolution was only a couple megabytes.
