  • I thought utilitarian ethics proceeded from the objective of BENEFITING the majority, not necessarily making them happy. These are not the same thing.

  • @lazyperfectionist1 Basically you are right, but most ethicists assume 'benefit' means to make someone happy as opposed to unhappy and to feel no pain as opposed to feeling pain.

  • That was indeed a great lecture but in Greece at least,we do the exact same thing in high school.

  • really enjoy the videos great teacher easy to follow~ misquoted the bible story tho about the coin, the story is: the religious leaders trying to trip up Jesus by getting him to say not to give money to Caesar (to get him in trouble), Jesus says "look at the coin, who is on the coin" they say "Caesar, then Jesus says "give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar”~ I think the teacher meant that Jesus would often use stories or parables to teach spiritual truths

  • GREAT speech! Extremely well done, I approve.

  • oh here we go again. professor: " it doesn't matter if you understand the information as long as you can remember it long enough to repeat it back to me on a test and then i will reward you with my approval and pass the word that you're intelligent on, and you can feel good about yourself and become more confident and there for more trusting and dependent on the social structure of the academy for further validation, until your so good at repeating stuff you can get a job anywhere

  • @michaelofGB45 Which also goes against his point in the first part of this video where he says if something is to structured it cant deal with change....Learn how to regurgitate... Ur more likely to fall to peices wen change occurs

  • Lol great joke "THE END ....or is it?"

  • Very very interesting. it makes me understand abit on perfection in life and also makes me want to learn more about life.

  • Minor correction, the reference to Jesus answering a question with another question should have been Luke 20:1, where Jesus was asked to tell who gave him his authority and Jesus asked them to tell him where John the baptist got his authority. The coin story is wrong, first this questioning happens only once in the bible and the coin didn't have God on the back, it only had Ceasar on it and Jesus merely replies, "give to Ceasar what is Ceasar's and give to God what is God's." Miss-quoted is all.

  • is there a next part on yutube?

  • best philosphy teacher i have ever seen

  • I would hate to be in this guy's class. I'm 3 min. into the video and im already thinking about stabbing my eyes out with a pencil

  • 35 questions and a few essay questions? Sounds none of those students are going out on the weekend.

  • We're born with synapses between our brain cells (more than we need), the neural connections we don't use are pruned, and our future experience is based on the connections that were already in place in our early experience..

  • amazing

  • the story the profesor told about the bible was wrong, the coin does not have God's face in it, just the ceasar's. Jesus, asked, who's face is in the coin, they replied, the ceasar's, then he said, give ceasar what is ceasars and give God what is God's. because Pharisees were asking them for money for the temple.

  • @albertobarros Haha... one of the many thing that will make you very disillusioned with the establishment of higher education... How about the APPA make their articles free so we can all learn something without dishing out money to professionals and universities.

  • i will like college.

  • What book he refers to?

  • The course book, which varies teacher to teacher, school to school. I think its cool that he lets them add footnotes with disagreements.

  • he's great!

  • I recommend Osho. Alan Watts is good, too.

  • Agree, learned more watching it then our class lecture at my current school!

  • wow he is good , i wish my teacher were like him in some degree.

  • I agree, some proffesors have no passion or seem to hide it a bit to much.
