this is my opinion no offense you buy a 4x4 to go off the road not on the road well what do you expect in the hilux if its doesn't drive as well as the amarok, the hilux is built to go off road while the amarok is attempting to do that well they nearly got it right and besides you don't drive very fast in the on the road and for me the amarok looks and feels to engineered for a truck(which is good)but its just to posh and you don't need touch screen anyway for me hilux wins i don't care what
From my experience I dont believe the hilux and amerok are even in the same class. Not that hilux doesn't have its place in the maket as a cheap ute to buy your staff (oh hiluxes are expensive), Now an amerok vs new ranger maybe a nivara that would be a good vs review. Thanks again for the great video enjoyed it.
Took an Amarok for a test drive last week, makes the Hilux look and feel like a hyundai excel....VW Amarok, the new Hilux tow vehicle.....cant wait to get mine....
Fact is most of the time people spend their time driving their 4x4 utes' on the road. Some never even go off road until the second owner. hiluxes are uncomfortable and otherwise lagging behind the modern utes. Why toyota persists with not doing major work to vehicles I don't know, as they are falling far behind now compared with the Amarok and the new Ranger...
hi there it's one of your new fans could you please do a review on the new 2012 ford ranger i am looking to buy one next year or would you be able to find another ute that is in the same price range and performs well. looking forward to your next reveiw.
SEGURAMENTE NO ESTABA FAMILIARIZADO CON LA RELACION DE LA CAJA DE LA AMAROK , YO TENGO UNA TRAINLINE Y HASTA EL DIA DE HOY NINGUNA HILUX ME A LOGRADO ALCANZAR NI UN HIGHLANER INCLUSO LE ADELANTE Y NO ME LOGRO ALCANZAR UN RANGER ROVER Y SOLO DE IMAGINARSE QUE EL MOTOR DE LA AMAROK ES COMO DE UN COMPACTO, ESO ES WOLKSWAGEN PURA TECNOLOGIA....... TOYOTA NI A LOS TALONES Y LO DIGO PORQUE TUVE UNA Y LA VENDI...
Hilux have been a great ute for ages now, but on pure sex appeal alone the Amarok takes it. That is one sexy ass ute, mind you price wise I bet the Hilux absolutely smashes it up, German engineering is a little more costly than Japanese
I have recently got myself into a VW Amarok highline model. amazing car, all my mates have hilux's and I'm sorry to say but the Amarok beats them hands down. The only downside with the upper models are the tyres sizes, 18" and 19" rims won't fit many brands of off road tyres.
Our test drive convinced me that this is the car for our needs,ie towing a 2 tonne load, climbing boat ramps, economical, long distance touring with a slie-on camper and user friendly in the suburbs(90% in our case).
This machine thinks for itself(eg tells you when to change gears, takes over when you stuff up in awkward situations.
Carries a sizable load and still pulls its inards out. The rolls royce gearbox has to be a strong point.
@autofrea099 No. I think it's because the hilux is much older. Wait a few years and see what happens. I don't say the Amarok is much better but I've already driven it and it felt pretty good. It also looks very well built and VW diesel engines are well known for their reliability.
@autofrea099 no the fact there is many dealers for toyota worldwide , thats one of the reason why people buy toyota . who want to travel like 500 km to find a dealer for amarok , so the dealers also play a major role .
Just reading the comments, I have to point out that you have the choice of full time OR selectable 4x4 when you get the Ultimate. I know because I have a selectable 4x4 Ultimate. All other Amarok variants have selectable 4x4 only.
@matt05x Hi Matt, thanks for the information. We're at the mercy of car companies and if they don't option a car with something then we're stuck. Our car only had permanent all-wheel drive and not a low-range option.
It's a bit of a shame you didn't test the Ultimate with selectable 4x4 and low range. The full time 4x4 model is more aimed at the leafy suburbs than the bush.
Looks like the Amarok is bigger, carries more, has loads more interior space, has more torque & uses less fuel. Get the selectable 4x4 version & I think the Hilux has been towelled up in just about every area.
Hi all, we certainly weren't implying the HiLux was as comfortable as an S-Class... but as far as Utes go it isn't bad. But the Amarok is better. And while we had the Amarok Ultimate in our comparison, the Highline, which features low-range is every bit the Hilux's match off-road. That it can tow more and carry more, and is more comfortable inside is icing on the cake.
To me, a pickup truck (ute) is first and formost, a workhorse. Utilitarian in design, built to carry goods from point A to point B, and the Hilux, even with its modern looks and creature comforts, achieves its goal. The VW Amarok, although better suited for on road use, can be used off-road with a little modification to the suspension.
I'd take the Amarok.
