  • I've always wanted to ride along with one of these guys just for a day to see what exactly goes on. Their job is quite fascinating and it's way more than just sitting in the cab, controlling the speed and blowing the horn for crossings. I think I may have just found myself a new industry to pursue!

  • All that moving that engineer did...what kind of life is that?

  • nice video!

  • One of the best clips I've seen, to the point.

  • Jeremy Groves shouldn't have traveled from one side of the car to the other while backing up, talking about security/safety...

  • BordelDeMerle should relax on message boards

  • @BordelDeMerle You are supposed to do it... before you apply for a conductor position it clearly says in the job posting every railroad does it..

  • @helloween1987 Well you have to ride on the end of the car, I do that every work shift, tho you may not want to walk across to the other side of the car while you are backing up. That's what's dangerous cause if for any reason you have a run out then you might fall on the rails and have the car rolling over you. Anyway you do what you want but I dont take such risks. Many accidents happened that way.

  • @helloween1987 - Try that on BNSF, and your ass is fired. No questions asked.

  • Sweet! Thanx fur sharin'!

  • pause it at sec 51... its a very very nice shot

  • Yeah I see myself as Lou in future years!!! with a mustache like that one too... lol its my dream

  • Hey my hats off to these engineers... considering they have a lot of responsibility... imagine all that cargo they're responsible for!! And then to deal with pranksters on the tracks, people that don't want to wait and race the train at the crossings (something I *NEVER* do), etc...

  • 1:34-1:36 was also a rule violation!!

  • Hell yeah it was.....he saw the video camera and was saying," Oh shit...they got me!"

  • Don't waste your time, research it more

They will never tell you about the cover

ups of injuries and the constant harassment

by Company Pukes called trainmasters, I will

not lie, if you want to know the truth about

what goes on behind closed doors at the rail

    road just ask

  • tell me about it. Roanoke is notorious for covering up injuries..

  • @smokinggunsNC Ok, so what goes on?

  • That was a good clip. Locomotive engineers and Railroad conductors have tough, challenging jobs..today more than ever with the hard emphasis on safety, drug/alcohol testing and the odd hours. Definetly need a good work ethic and attitude. Drunks, and potheads don't stay employed long; especially now that union members won't cover for dangerous employees as was often done in the past.

  • clinton iowa smells like shit

  • up sucks !!!

  • I just got off a 112 day strait bender for UP so they aren't high on good grace thoughts at the moment either. Being an engineer is a great job but the big wigs can kiss my ass as of right now at least.

  • its good if ur single or work in the yard

  • Are you kidding? Those jobs are some of the hardest you can get. I'd like to know what you do that makes you such a tough guy.. smartass.

  • im a traincrew member for up been there done that .toughguy? your probably a trainspoter taking pics on the side of the road you prob couldnt even figure out how to couple a hose

  • Yes, I am a RAILFAN. This is America I'm not a "trainspotter". And if the need had ever arisen, I could assemble and haul any damn train. So shut the hell up

  • @oyamajiujitsu More of a Foamer along side of the road taking pics......

  • ok, bend over.

  • i know how much you love to fuck dogs but thats not what i meant homo

  • great vid, i'm going to MODOC RAILROAD ACADEMY next year to get my conductors and locomotive engineering lisences, i can't wait! i'm 18 and already driven 4 locomotives at DELTA yard in washington state, and passed a mechanical test and rail safety test issued by BNSF. on the Mechanical test i scored 2 points higher than the supervisor, and we both tied on the safety, i LOVE my trains!

  • Cool!! I am jealous!!!

    Best regards

    ashutosh

  • you have to be a conductor for a minimum of 2 years before being considered being as a locomotive enigneer and i would recomend just going to union pacific for the training so you dont have to pay for it

  • did u grad already? tell me about ur experience there im planning to attend NARS next yr

  • Nah, with the economy the way it is right now i'm stuck for a while, i'm now 19, almost 20 and i havn't saved enough to get myself to Modoc yet, getting there slowly but surely,

@ Turntablesihs008: thanks for the advice on going with UP but my plans are to go back up to Washington state and get on with BNSF, and i already knew about being a Conductor for 2 years first, that was my plan anyway. but i appreciate your input!

I wish you the best on your journey to NARS Halloween1987!

  • yeah Im almos 22 and I have been stuck the same way so I finally got a job , and Im planning to save money I swear. I might attend at the end of this year or the beggining of the 2010 I feel the same you feel My family doesnt seem to be very supportive but I gotta do what I gotta do, Im getting there too slowly but surely as u say. good luck to u too my friend in pursuing ur career keep in touch

  • @helloween1987 do what you have to do, my friend. Family will come around, true friends will be there for you; goes for any situation in life, not just with work. Especially in small towns & the like, you know what I mean? But yer lucky to have a career in that field! Good luck to ya! :)

  • @loophole3 So its a year later...how ya doin? You at WS or with a RR yet?

  • @loophole3 ya got bigger balls than me, kid! How'd you make out?

  • @makthnife haha thanks, well about a year ago now i learned that i would have to be ON-CALL pretty much 24/7 and be within 90 MIN of a rail yard at all times, that was a big shocker and i felt i wouldn't have ANY time to plan anything like a weekend vacation if i had to be tied so close to work "just in case" all the time, SO my plans changed. i'm now halfway through my CDL training at "Southwest Truck Driver Training" and i'll be driving Western Regional for Werner Enterprises.

  • @loophole3 Damn! Sounds a lot like Flight Attendants too. Don't blame ya. Well, good luck on the roads! If ya ever haul through Chicago, drop a line!

  • Ted Benson writes for the Modesto bee right? He's the best railfan photographer of all time.

  • Kool video.

    BUT!

I'd rather work 4 Norfolk Southern on the Pittsburgh line.

    Passing HORSESHOE CURVE, through Gallizin,etc...

    From Harrisburg,Pa to Pitts burgh,PA

  • If I work for NS. I'll be on the Piedmont Division around Greensboro and Raleigh. I'll be running as far north as Roanoke and to the big Linwood yard.

  • If I work forNS Im running from Lexington,KY to Cincinnatti,OH.

  • Well, you're not to far away from me. About 2 states up from NC.

  • yup actually im gonna work for CSX from Cincinnatti, OH to Louisville, KY line (aka L&N line)

  • Oh.... okay.

  • yup lol

  • you work for NS despite the fact that your profile says your 14?

  • no i said if i worked for NS

  • Oh, okay. :)

  • i was talkin to railmogul2 lol! :)

  • Oh! Okay. :) lol.

  • ummm, they choose the route for you, you dont choose the route for them

  • Well, if I'm in NC they'll probably base it on my location.

  • not necessarily, you "bid" on the route based on your seniority, and if there are a lot of experienced workers who want that route, the railroad can shove you wherever. Also, the railroad can change your homebase without warning or explanation. And it is very possible the railroad may not have any openings in NC, so if you go to the Chicago base, they wont hire you if you refuse to move closer to chicago for example

  • Really? Hmmm... I didn't know that.

  • on the same tolken the may work with you however, but Chicago definitly is where the most CSX conductor jobs are, and dont let location discourage you, the job is great

  • Alright, thanks for the info.

  • @railmogul2 I didnt know that eather!!!!!

  • YEP THATS RITE MY FRIEND

  • @BarryManilowFan4eva Foamer!!!!!!

  • Thats my Job! the best Job Hands down!
