  • I talk to you, stupid guy, FURTWANGLER WAS A HERO. He helped some jews to escape from Germanie. Stop it now! Ok!

  • Genius Furtwangler masterly conducts Bethoven 9th Mvt 1, conveying depth, music that transcends across the universe with a message of Peace, Freedom, & Human Love meaningful to the souls of mankind, it soars the spirit...thank you very kindly for posting!

  • Bach=Nazi Mozart=Nazi Beethoven=Nazi Wagner=Nazi Furtwangler=Nazi

If You want to be a good musician you must also be a Nazi.

  • Wonderful phrasing such as at 6:48 make this a glorious example of Furt at his best, conveying with soul and absolutely unique insight to us mere mortals the inner power of one of the immortal masterworks of the ages.

  • @Invisus944 yes indeed it is the best performance because the recording quality is the most advanced on that one

  • der diskurs hat mich angegriffen!

  • thank you for posting. this version soars and my spirit soars with it... i can hear the total commitment of the orchestra...playing perhaps with all they were because they were playing for their lives or those of their friends, and playing in times of such extremes and extremely vivid living...

  • finally, a decent person

  • Which Furtwangler's pergomance is the best?

  • Furtwängler is a hero. He bought music and art to people in wartime, just like other greats such as Myra Hess, Ulanova and Richter. These people represent music, nothing else.

  • wrong. music and politic often come together. then it is the decision of the musician to accept the collaboration or to refuse..... Adolf Busch refused. And many others. Cortot collaborated. Backhaus collaborated. Kempf collaborated.

Furtwaengler was not a hero. He decided to make career with the berlin philharmonic and accepted to work together with Goebbels. Is that a hero?well if you mean he was its your opinion and mine is different. we are in a democracy so we can have different opinions

  • uhart. It is not a decision "to collaborate or to refuse". If you live in a country and play music, is that collaborating? That is a stupid as saying that every musician in the United States agrees with American foreign policy and they "collaborate". These musicians you speak of play music. They are not politicians.

  • Hay, come on people. I'm a soldier and a musician and time is of the essence of all music. We don't pick when we live or die. We pick up those who have gone before and whom we live with now and their music. Beethoven was not liked when he lived, he struggled. Life and our part in it is like that. They did'nt appreciate him, in his time, just 'cus the Nazis liked him -so what, even the devil admired Jesus!

  • Greant Furtwangler!!!!!! BRAVOOOOO MAESTRO!!!

  • Furtwangler was a genius. No one conducted Beethoven like he did.

  • "people never needed more, never yearned more to hear Beethoven and his message of freedom and human love, than precisely these Germans, who had to live under Himmlers terror? I do not regret having stayed with them"

Furtwangler, from Ardoin 'The Furtwangler Record'. Case closed.

  • yeah, i hear himmlers pretty evil

  • Heinrich Himmler, the head of the Gestapo...

  • Beautiful, I came here to listen to this recording because of the movie Equalibrium.

5 stars for such an amazing symphony.

  • what a beautifu record

please, please could you deliver the 1943 7th beethoven

  • Too Bad you people dont think of whom was sitting in the audiance that night

  • This performance is filled with so much anger and the joy theme is played so violently a true musician can discern that the interpreter did not not in fact enjoy his audience situation at all. Furtwangler was not a nazi- although his wartime recordings were recorded with a nazi audience, the performances are so unique and outrageous that they force you to ignore who was in the audience.

  • yeah right sorry I dont allow that kind of bullshit excuse. its nazi music now

  • Do you always choose concerts according to the moral profile of the audience? Associating Beethoven and Furtwängler with the Nazi cause is of course exactly what Goebbels had in mind. It is up to you whether you agree with Goebbels or not.

  • I think that the context of this recording makes it even more powerful. The symphony can be appreciated as a plea in the midst of chaos and destruction for peace and universal brotherhood. Furtwangler despised the Nazis, but loved music and his country, and I think you can hear in this performance his defiance, his disgust and fear and terror. It really is remarkable.

  • Contrary to the PC american propaganda spouted here & elsewhere,Furtwangler did not 'despise the Nazis.'

The intrinsic meaning to Beethoven's choral work, Schiller's poem-the Ode to joy, Wagner's works & the revolutionary mission of National Socialism is freedom...freedom from jewish interest slavery, international capitalism and gloablisation, whether that be of the Soviet or US variety.

'All men become brothers..'when they are no longer rent apart by a class and consumer oriented society.

  • Because Beethoven knew all about National Socialism.

  • No idiot, the spirit that inspired it.

  • Ps.I see your a Canadian.I think that says it all,lol.

  • Fuck off you pathetic Nazi kid.

  • National Socialism are you kidding me?!! Beethoven had already been there and done that with Napoleon. This isn't exactly obscure information, and this document of human genius came after all of the heart break and disillusionment of men's monstrous revolutionary schemes. The ninth isn't about naive rally of the masses on the eve of man's next big pipe dream. This is Dresden and the depravity of Berlin after the fall. It's about an eternal optimism despite the folly of man's great misadventures.

  • I do not agree that this performance is manifestation of Furtwangler's hatred toward Nazi. Interpretation as such is too much influenced by American/Jewish Propaganda.

I believe the Maestro did not love nor hate Fascism. Artist like Herr Furtwangler transcends those human imperfections.

I only hear Beethoven's music which runs across the universe offering redemption to all human race.

  • Music is sound ; it doesn't expresses anything more than the nature laws. Only people can attribute some sense to it, but nothing can prevent somebody to feel that one moving piece expresses an empathy for good or evil as he wants.

  • thats a very friendly interpretation you do on Furtwaengler. Do listen to Mrs Furtwaengler when she explains, her voice is full of hesitation.... she knows very well that it was a lost fight in advance to try to make understand why .... a lie always will be a lie, only the truth has a pure heart...

  • still propagandizing eh? Perhaps you have a closer kinship with Goebbels thank you think.

  • Fool! This is not Nazi music nor commie music! Beethoven never intended it to be so! Nor did he intended it to be branded that way by vagabonds like you! This is simply, one of Beethoven's masterpieces. And a universal music treasure trove of anyone who would like to hear and appreciate it as it is! So back off retard!

  • lol what a fucking mindless troll you are.

  • I,m sure the orch players didn't give a "rats ass' who was sitting in the audiance that or any night... they were ALL in on it...

  • Thanks very much for taking all the trouble uploading this marvelous peformance!

    Any other uploads comming?

  • It's realy too bad that you obviously know nothing about Beethoven and his strong Libertarian political views. The fact that you would judge a peice of music that was writen nearly 120 years before this recording. Not to mention the musicians who were forced to do things for a regime they didn't subsribe too. You sir are a moron do your homework.

  • Thanks for this. Fantastic.

  • One of the most intense, orgasmic recordings of Beethoven's 9th out there. Amazing performance.
