i think that what happened was they filmed them from beneath and then twirled it round like they do at the start of eastenders and at the end it was back to front.
i repeatedly emailed the beed when they first changed it, was it 2002? got to do your bit! i thought momentum would build and there would be national outcry! but clearly the beeb are stubborn... absolute discrace. is nothing sacred? anyway, fantastic post. cheers.
Believe it or not, I turned on the TV yesterday and pressed the red button for digital snooker..... and for the first time in 7 years or whatever, I heard THIS MUSIC !!!
If you guys got the red button, push it when there is no snooker currently on, they ll show the results and have the music on in the background...better than nothing yeh?
I agree -- they should never have changed the theme tune. Just like Sportsnight, Grandstand and all the old BBC themes, this is superb. I live in America now and these tunes always make me think fondly of home. Why they ever changed them is beyond me.
The opening sequence from 1998-2001 was also quite neat but the ones since then have been far from good. The current one is terrible. What's the point of using a white horse and a black bull to represent the cueball and black ball?

To my knowledge it was October 2001 when the Beeb first changed the theme tune, in time for that year's LG Cup.

the current theme to bbc snooker is just a remix of this theme
it leaves out the middle part and has a stupid video of a horse running WTF
i like the golf theme and grandstand
oh and i like the news a 10 theme very british
lol one more thing whats with the bbc today no decent programs left
