  • @HazardousN00b405 Sorry, I mean 1:53 for Neil Hannon.

  • Is... Is that Neil Hannon at 2:53? Wow. He is amazing.

  • Love this version

  • thumbs up if you saw the thumbnail and you thought she was suckin on a dick

  • Lacks the energy of Bell's version. So-so.

  • its funny little frog in my throw at not throat lol

  • I like how she pronounces all the syllables in "irresponsible"

  • I REALLY LOVE IT MADLY (L)

  • Brittany!!! Remember in middle school play when you were the lady in the tooty fruity hat! I'm proud of you for rockin' it in this video!

  • Please! Please! Brittany Stallings HAS to bee a permanet member of god help the girl! Thumbs up if you agree

  • So gooooood to dance

  • Haven't got a clue about Stuart Murdoch or the God Help The Girl project (which is all about to change)...but this is brilliant stuff!

  • Brittany Stallings is the lead vocalist on this one.

She was one of the singers selected from the Imeem online auditions for GHTG.

    Harmony vocals by Dina Bankole.

  • Who is the singer???

  • Just found out about this song because of a tweet link from @RosanneCash .. She said that she has listened to it "257 times over the last couple of years" ;)

  • I cannot get this version out of my head! I always liked the B&S version, but never like this. Love the singer - she has just the right amount of soul without over-doing it. More Annie Lennox, less Joss Stone (no disrespect, girl!). What is it about English girls (see also: Amy Winehouse)?

  • I have not enough words to express my feelings..

this is one of the most beautiful song I've ever heard..

    thank you for this <3

  • nice.

  • As much as I love Stuart's version of this song, it seems to make more sense with a female vocalist. Fantastic songwriting regardless~

  • this song is addictive... I love this version :)

  • (Cover of 17) here is a funny song that all teens love. Have a listen...

    Rebecca Skye

  • you're my guy and you don't even know it ... i like this version

  • awww only downside: she dosent say throw-it

  • @jkno21892 My thoughts too :)

  • great tune .... have had it buzzing all day in my head :)

  • This girl - Brittany Stallings I suppose - is terribly adorable, and clearly has talent. Not a talent that suits this song. It seems to smooth over the ambiguity, turning it into more of a generic pop song. But...thumbs up....

If it draws people back to the well of the original, I can see it's value. It wasn't a disgrace like most covers.

  • I don't like this version

  • What a beautiful song and the girl who sings... she's terrible cute!!!

  • The singer name is Brittany Stallings, foir those who are wondering.

  • I think i saw Diane Birch around 0:48

    love her

  • the song funny little frog is so spectacular

  • La canción es muy agradable. Me encanta la musicalización y la voz de la intérprete. Sigan adelanten con "God help the girl". Saludos desde Lima, Perú

  • i love her! somebody know her name?

  • just closing tab

  • PERFECT! I love that song and her voice.

  • que musica gostosa de se ouvir!!

  • Please help understan this... is God help the girl a movie, this music project? a soundtack? a old musician? 'cause once i heard a song and it semeed quite old, and there is a movie...because Asy sings a song... son, I don't understand, help ):

  • @Violetaa92

GHTG is a NEW music project from Stuart Murdoch of Belle and Sebastian....he wrote the songs for an album and a movie still to come.

  • While I enjoy God Help The Girl, this cover is completely horrid. Belle & Sebastian's version is perfect, what made the song great was the bounciness. This version makes the song just drag on and on. Meh.

  • muito bom mesmo!!! very good!!!

  • Asya 2:19= Awesomeness

  • /watch?v=aVqw9WlPa

  • this is music :D:D

  • Anyone know iwhere i can get a copy of their song, 'Baby You're Blind'? It features the brilliant vocals of Linnea Jonsson from Those Dancing Days...

  • thanks! thanks!! viva el buen gusto!! clap clap clap!

  • Is this the American Idol version? Was the point to make this soulless and boring? The song feels twice as long now. And it now sounds like the theme song to some terrible new sitcom. This blows. And I'm a huge Belle and Sebastian fan.

  • @janetk618 Yeah, this version is trying way too hard and sucks, B&S version is effortless and has way more soul

  • @janetk618 this was on american idol?? omg........i'm so disappointed.

  • @janetk618

    wow, talk about hate

  • Wow, loved this version!

  • What a great mix of tempo, beat, lyrics, and heavenly vocals. SWEEEEET! This girl sings effortlessly.

  • Hace tiempo me enamoré de Catherine Ireton y su voz. Esta chica tampoco lo hace nada mal ^^

  • Does enyone knows where i can find the titeltrack God Help The Girl? It was always on youtube but now i cant find it enywhere :S

  • buy the album

  • this girl's voice is absolutely amazingly breath taking. she's so talented. i love this version of the song better!:D

  • I've just came across both this song and B&S's version. I can't say I like the other better; indeed, I really think that this arrangement has got better quality, in what concerns instruments. I also prefer this kind of rythm with Murdoch's lyrics, it really gives it another dimension. Great work!

  • excelente realización

  • You must be out of your mind! The Life Pursuit version is fantastic, I agree. But this one is just as good, or even better. The old version was all peppy, and there's no way not dancing to it - but here you get the sadness that's always been underneath the lyrics, the loneliness - it becomes a new song. That's Stuart Murdoch for you.

  • I am totally in love with the girl who sings this song.

  • @cinar96rvn

ha, I went to school with her. I just randomly came across this. Weird.

  • A bit sickly...

At least the B&S version doesn't try to avoid loud and ridiculous, the way it was meant to be.

  • z's sister???

  • How could Murdoch do this for his own music? B&S original version is waaaaay better!

  • can't say better than og version but nice and since this is B&S front man's side project (producer) only i think it makes it sweeter

  • @gbhcitybaby

I agree, it's just a really different style.

  • this is such a timeless sound.

  • i've played this video like 6 times already

i'm in love with her voice!!!!

this cover is indeed quite amazing

  • This is such an amazing cover. I'm really in love with the whole thing: video, cover, arrangement. Perfection. : )

  • me encantaaa!

  • I saw these guys last night at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh with Stuart Murdoch and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and they were BRILLIANT!!!!

  • I love this version so much!

I love the original for dancing too, this one is so good to chill out.

In fact, the whole album is one big chill-out ...

  • Awesome. My channel is full of rare indie bands but I've never heard of this one before!

  • Very Joss Stone, though not as powerful.

  • I prefer B&S, but this version is so good.

  • Great song

  • the girls voices in god help the girl are amazing, but i prefer the B&S version.... is waaayyy better.... it's like more the spirit of the song is kind of lost in this slower version.

  • i kind of agree with you, i love B&S's version more, but this one isn't bad either :]

  • I love Belle and Sebastian. I loved this song by B n S. Im glad Stuart Murdoch from the band has a side project. Im glad they've done a cover of the B n S song, i love this versh too! I am going to see God Help the Girl on the 21st Nov!

  • Fantástico, adorei esta versão!!!

Terrific, I love it, this version is amanzing!!!!

  • this video is very clear and nice .

    awesome one !!!!!! love it.

  • at 0:31 is taht michelle branch??

  • i like it better sung by this girl.

  • <3 it!

  • this is soooo good.

belle and sebastian's version was better though, but this is still amazing

  • Really i rekon this version is better! o well :)

  • we play this song in my store all the time and it always makes me smile

  • i wish i could do that at my store! all i get is network radio and it sucks.

  • wow where do you work?!

  • Stuart you're a master!!! I love u...

  • I really like this reworking (I say reworking instead of cover because GHTG is essentially a Belle and Sebastian/Stuart Murdoch side project) of the song. It could have easily been released by Motown Records in the mid-60s.

    GHTG is terrific, great album.

  • I heard this version of the song before hearing the original and I would almost bet her voice and brilliant uptempo will eclipse the Belle and Sebastian version, but I will check it out just the same. Great song and terrific looking video.

  • IDK they are just very different, the original to this version...

  • My God, Aaronblowers. You are an ignorant prick.

  • Although its executed well, the song lacks Belle and Sebastian's originality. This young performer can belt just like many found in churches and on television. However, belting and scooping before every note is about all she does.

She'll find herself, and invariably the original voice will follow.

  • I like it better than the Belle & Sebestian version, it's more adorable, less stalkerish, with a woman singing it.

  • I don't think the original sounds stalkerish. I love that the original is sung by a MAN pining for a girl, instead of a girl pining for a man, which seems so much more common. It's such a charming song. The original I favor.

  • Though I pretty much love everything by Belle&Sebastian (and especially THE LIFE PURSUIT) I really prefer this version of the song because of the nice musical arrangement (the voicing of the backing-vocals... facemeltig! And the solo voice in the last verse (2:46...) is heaven!) and because that female voice has a... soul-attitude which seems to be a surprisingly good match in a B&S-song! Plus... I'm a guy, and the singer is such a natural beauty :o)

  • Well you see, I am a girl, and I think Stuart is a terribly handsome man, besides being talented. So, just like you, that helps me love the original.

  • :o)

...really talented, that man, and there's no other angel who could sing "...so fuck them, too" as softly as he does in "dress up in you" :o)

  • Indeed, and there's no other angel who could sing the words "...so fuck them, too" as softly as he does in "dress up in you".

    :o)

...but what about min 2:46? That always kills me!

  • Oh, he sings everything perfectly. ha! 2:46 is pretty cool, I mean, it's not like she annoys me, it's just ironic to me that my favorite song by them was changed. Also, I do wish I had known about this and could have auditioned, even though it was obviously fierce competition. I love to sing, and I don't sing like Mariah Carey or any of those types of singers.

I am curious to see how this musical turns out!

  • On Sundays I put this song on in my living room and dance around my dog. She gets a real kick out of it. Of course, I have to change "frog" to "dog" for her.

  • @papallacta That is the best thing I've ever read in a youtube comments box

  • this version isn't bad, but it pales in comparison to the original. it somehow sucks all the life out of it.

  • Absolutely prefer the original one, but this is very nice.

  • Much better than the original. Gives the song new legs. It was novel before, but now it's somewhat profound. It's her voice.

  • It's a great song to begin with but I don't really see the point of this cover. She doesn't really add anything to the original, rather the toe tapping sense of fun has been lost. Trying to make a cover version more emotional than the original rarely works.

  • This is far better than Come Monday Night. Far better.

  • I think the essence of the band is gone missing with this version. Not bad, though.

  • somewaht better than the version from B&S, the fem vocals make all the difference.

  • nice

  • Cute :) Like it

  • Stuart is a genius.

  • I seriously think he is. I do prefer the original B&S version of this song though...I adore his voice in it.

  • I can't stop listening to this, I love the strings and her voice is immence.

  • 1:27 Most damn motivated drummer EVER

  • Brittany Stallings is simply incredible.

  • i bought this album few days ago , it just more than what i expect , truly talented girl

  • funny little frog in my whaaat?

  • throat but she sings it to rhyme, which makes it a lil quirky

  • lovely song, anything this guy does is just lovely

  • Or you mean Belle and Sebastian, but whatever.

  • That's hard, I can't choose my favorite, the original, or this one.

  • This is cool! Is Asy looking at a fly or something?

  • love love love her voice. can't stop playing it over the huge sound system in the theatre i work at!!!

    Can't wait for the album...

  • BEST

  • who is the vocal ? i want her name. someone helps?

  • her name is Brittany Salling, she´s from olympia, usa and one of the guest singers on the record - but i think she´s just on that one.

i guess catherine ireton (i love her voice) is the main girl, with fellow singers celia garcia and alex klobouk.check out "god help the girl: part 2 of 4
