JK Rowling is a genius. "Not fine literature???" For goodness sake, she is not trying to be Tolkien or Shakespeare here. This is all her own work! JK should be considered an inspiration, not criticsed. Taking a chance and committing to something for this long is far more admirable than some of the achivments people claim to have made today. Harry Potter would not be the success it is without her brilliant mind. And in the words of Rubeus Hagrid: "NEVER insult JK Rowling in front of ME!"

Her books are fun and scary. But they are certainly not fine literature, and her ideas are not usually terribly original. I mean, Harry found out that he was the Heir of Slytherin by pulling a sword out of a hat, only he could do that. Really smacks of King Arthur. And giant spiders? Very common theme, they're even in LOTR. PSSH.
