  • We all know that City of Truro was the first loco to reach 100mph, not Flying Scotsman!

  • OMG LOVE THE VIDEO AND I WISH I WAS THERE WHEN IT HAPPEND!!! U'VE GOT TO LOVE THE TORO!!!

  • OMG LOVE THE VIDEO AND I WISH I WAS THERE WHEN IT HAPPEND!!! U'VE GOT TO LOVE THE TORO!!!

  • A GWR locomotive...pulling LMS coaches...disgraceful!!!

  • @Hindenburg12886 You are joking right?

  • @5786Dan Nope, City Of Truro was the first vehicle of any kind in the world to reach 100 mph.

  • @Chris9017 I know, I was replying to someone moaning about the coaches.

  • Flying Scottsman on 1 of her trips (though I can't remember what year...)

  • @1position69. CoT is not scrapped and is on semi-permanent loan from the NRM to the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire Railway, and is often run. It was restored with £100k about 5 or 6 years ago and does visit other railways.

Doubt clouds the authenticity of the 'first to go 100mph' claim; onboard manual stopwatch timings of quartermile posts aren't accurate, and it was downhill (1 in 90 Whiteball Summit/Wellington Bank). Does anyone know of other engines which lay claim to this title?

  • Great Video, 5 Stars!

  • Wait, someone clarify this...They scraped City of Truro?

  • No it Hasn't been scrapped it was run December 4th with the bachmann model

  • WHY SCRAP IT!?

wasent it the first to go 100?

  • what are you talking about :S

  • the first one to go 100 mph!!!

  • @LuigiLuigi8989 They scrapped it :O no way. Unless you mean its mainline boiler certificate ran out and it can only run on herritage railways now at 25mph

  • @LuigiLuigi8989 It's not scrapped its at NRM(National Railway Museum)

  • Look at her go!!

  • will she ever be back on the mainline?

  • I miss old 'Truro.

  • GWR's finest if you ask me

  • I agree

  • that is one heck ofa machine mate!

  • At her age it can still shift a train of that weight at speed is impressive - engineering excellence thats called.

  • to think. over 100 years ago. that was the first locomotive to go over 100 miles per hour!

  • Brilliant video, sham 3440 isn't doing any mainline tours now

  • Gerrads Cross looks so different now compared to steam days. Nice Video. You have any others from the 1990's?

  • I am gradually going through my collection from over the last 20 yrs and putting on some of the best mainline shots.

  • @col6024 Do you realize how ghostly City of Truro's whistle sounds?
