WHAT IS A BOO BOO IS HARRY BELAFONTE TRYING TO SING THIS SONG! THE ORIGINAL VERSION WRITTEN AND PERFORMED BY THE LATE LORD MELODY RULES, HANDS DOWN. I know Belafonte is credited with bringing calypso to the forefront in the U.S during the 1950's ( so he gets some props for that) but for anyone who appreciates the ART AND SOUND OF AUTHENTIC CALYPSO, Belafonte's is a WHITEWASHED and PAINFUL introduction to it all.
I think he enjoys making songs for others. Now, I think most (not all) singers do it for money and fame. Not hating, just saying because this song cheers up my mood like many other of his songs.

@lovelyladyj37: My mother, who just passed away early this morning, used to tell us kids about this song, and we thought the VERY SAME THING - it sounded so silly, we thought she was making it up, too! A lot WE knew, hunh? (LOL)
@lovelyladyj37 My Dad did too! Every once in a while we can still coax him into it.Oh this is too precious! We kids would say no after he'd sing 'shut your mouth'! And when he's sing 'you should see them screaming 'round the place'....we'd all scream and run around! I do have the song if you'd like me to send it to you. I'm sorry to hear of your dad's passing. You have my heartfelt sympathy.
I remembered this song several years ago when an elderly "Island Gentleman" starting singing it in the workplace and cracked everybody up.
