  • three times 6 ;)

  • the part when the Count laughes really demonic scared me when i was a kid, i am glad they toned him down a bit over the years,

  • OMG I've been looking for this for friggin ever! The count hypnotizes(or whatever), doesn't let them stop him from counting, and has a (not as scary as what I've heard from other videos) scary laugh! Yes I love it, why did they have to change him, he was so perfect!!!

  • The Count has OCD: Obsessive Counting Disorder!

  • Count: Because I love to count things!

Ernie: Yeah I know... We ALL know!

  • 'SIX BLOCKS!!!! Mahaha!' *thunder and lightning in background*

    The Count rocks!

  • Ahahaha. Loved it

  • Silence! lol

  • 6 is Bert's favorite Number!!! 8D

  • Bert is like protecting Ernie from the Count...

    so cute!!XD

  • Poor Ernie.

  • Man, the Count hypnotising Bert and Ernie is so impossibly hilarious.

  • Bert at 0:26. Ha!!

  • SILENCE! Man i wish i had that power.

  • I'd like to see the clip with Ernie turning a P into an R. Anyone have it?

  • I love how Bert and Ernie look around at the thunder whenever Count laughs.

"Wtf there aren't any storm clouds! HEY STOP SCREWING WITH MY BLOCKS YOU OC BASTARD! You're work than Mr. Monk!"

  • Back in the days when the Count turned Ernie into a zombie from counting sheep all night.

    Those were the best.

  • check mode told bert "silence"

  • hahaha.. the count was my fav vampire back then...LOL. at least he didnt sparkle.. =P

  • SILENCE! :'D

    Count is a badass

    SIX! AH AH AH!

  • 'Leave things where you find them.' Excellent advice, though the timing of it was a bit off and created a misunder-

standing where the Count actually 'undid an undoing.' Thanks for posting!

  • Dont mess with a vampire! :P

  • this was probably one of the scariest skits i saw as a kid the Count was sinister back in the 70's

  • This sketch appears on:

    "Sesame Street" episode 0406 (November 27, 1972)

    "Sesame Street" episode 0822 (January 6, 1976)

"Sesame Street: Old School Volume 1" (2006)

  • Performers in this sketch:

    Ernie - Jim Henson

    Bert - Frank Oz

The Count Von Count - Jerry Nelson

  • why was everything funnier back then?

  • bert was alot nicer to ernie this time

  • what a fuckin dick!

  • yeah i know! i thought the Count was scary in those days

  • 2:12

Oh my God! The Count is dangerous!

  • Why didn't the count use these paranormal powers in other episodes?

  • Hehehe i know! XD

  • They were deemed too scary. I would have loved to see this when I was really little. I was fascinated by vampires and general horror for years.

  • This sketch is also seen on Old School Volume 1.

  • terrified me as a child...that is a crime

  • Yeah... Bert you really showed him.

  • I haven't laughed so much in a long time, and I could certainly use a laugh these days. This brings back so many memories. Many thanks, BipBippadotta.

  • i like this count better than the current count

  • they turned him into a sissy.

  • cuz people are pussys now.

  • Superman has nothing on the Count!!!

  • Wow Count's got some kinda magic or something that I dont remember him having

  • The Count was toned down because it was scaring kids.

  • My sister and I still use a phrase we coined: "Bert in a whammy" whenever someone looks stunned. Few people get the reference but its funny to us!

  • the count looks like Glinger from Mash...

  • this is a classic, erven to this day, me n my brother, we are almost 40 now, do that count/hand trance...

  • he heh the cfount has evil powers!!!

  • I wish I could Silence people. The Count is so ridiculous.

  • the Count was evil back then! there was another skit when he hypnotized Grover to bring him hotdogs, that was really scary skit, the music sounded like a duck call and really fast music.

  • the counts such a badass.

    SILENCE! i am counting...

  • Oh my GOD!!!! This put me in therapy!

  • How may i ask

  • the Count must have OCD

  • "the Count must have OCD"

HAHAHAHAHA Okay that is the most hilarious thing ever. And you're most likely absolutely right THAT'S WHY HE LIKES TO COUNT THINGS

  • I love the thing Bert does at the Silence thing.

  • Yah, I seem to remember during the good days of Sesame that the Count would mesmerize characters and people. No way would you see him do that today.

  • "My Pyramid, What Happened To it"

    I haven't seen this in 25-30 years

  • Don't ask Mr. Pyramid Head.

  • "Greetings! I have decided to count these blocks... again." Oh Count, you crazy bugger.

  • Man, the Count was a real bastard in the early days.

  • YEAH! His laugh sounds different this time instead of friendly cos he's into mischief, I guess :P They DO look like Starburst lol, and that's cool that the same voice actor's (correct term in this case?) been doing his voice so long.

  • Man that MOFO used Jedi Mind tricks to stun Bert and Ernie and jack up his blocks -- that joint is FUNNY!!!!

  • "Silence! I am counting." One of my favourite lines in the whole show.

  • yep big starbust. mouth watering orange stawberry too luchious lemon. But where is tangy cherry?

  • That is not the Count's laugh! He just sounds like a second-rate gloater, not a first-rate Count.

  • Those blocks look like Starburst.

  • LMAO

Bert tried to explain himself after The Count messed it up

    Ernie was so upset! lol

  • he heh the cfount has evil powers!!!

  • From another comment...the Count (pure evil)

  • Bert and Ernie are like Ant and Dec.

Plus the Count kicks major ass

    1 ass hahahahaaa

    2 ass haahahaa....

  • That Count is pure evil...

  • No way. Other Counts can be evil, but this one can count professionally (even by 10's), so he's good.

  • i like how he says three

  • Greetings. I am the Count!

Greetings, pal! I'm Slick Slamopovitz, Seeker of Adventure! :D

  • ):

    the Count ruined his pyramid!

  • The Count was such a bully in those days!

  • HAHAHA I love how the count goes "silence" and sticks his hands at Bert and he gets stunned. Man the count is so BA.

  • lol!! The count is a trip! Oh sweet, sweet memories...

  • The Count was one creepy creep in that skit! A sketch I like about counting blocks is where Herbert Birdsfoot asks Grover to count some blocks, and then some oranges. Grover says, "I know how to count blocks....but I do not know how to count oranges!"

  • This is surely the funniest Sesame Street thing ever. The Count is bad ass!

  • Just love his stun powers! :D

  • You'd think someone who counts for a living wouldn't have so much trouble counting the blocks because they were stacked in a pile.

Six! Six blocks! Muaahaha! Yes! Haha!

  • This was the 'Count's' debut.

  • Ernie was away for quite a long time how long does it take one to get a camera and it's very easy to build the pyrimaid again!

  • @b3d: This was in the 70's. One didn't have the advantages we have now. But then, things weren't as politically correct, either. So there's an upside and downside.

  • Does anyone remember when the count was sleeping over at bert and ernie's house? He counted sheep and the thunderstorms made ernie crazy that he ended up sleepwalking with his face looking hynotized!!! Somebody find this and upload it! PLEASE!!!

  • yeah i remember that one, Ernie looked so scary!

  • As soon as this clip started, I noted the blocks and instantly remembered that they used to make me hungry.. I had an uncontrolable urge to find blocks just like them and knaw the living crap out of them.. After reading through the other comments, I see that I wasn't the only one.. The Count really was scary back then.. Makes me wonder if clips like these aren't the reason why I was and still am terrified of thunderstorms.. LOL! Seriously!

  • AAAAAAAA!!! I'm STILL in therapy about this one!!!

  • Six! Six blocks! Muhaahaa!!

  • Don't be a hater. He's just trying to get his count on.

  • Oh man, I remember this! Bad ass! Good acting by Bert in this one, Oscar material, lmao!

  • "Silence!" xD LMAO

  • Wow I don't ever remember the Count sounding so sinister

  • gay....

  • Hysterical! I love how Count phases Bert out with his mysticism.

    "Silence! I'm counting..."

  • 1,2,3,4,5,6, 6, block's ha ha ha ha ha

  • Hey Leave Earnie alone

  • I always wondered how the guy who was playing the count puppet was able to manipulate those blocks so well. I guess its just talent! Some one needs to post "the secrets of sesame street"

  • I'm Jamie Peavler. Do you know why they call me Jamie Peavler? It's because that's the name my parents gave me when I was born!

  • This skit used to give me chills from the music. And how about those flashing colors from the lightning, huh? Creeeeepy!

  • Also, when he zapped them, the expressions on their faces looked like they were ready to say "Yes, master."

  • i had a prof in college that laughed like the count...imposter

  • Ernie is such a pathetic coward...he ALWAYS takes advantage of Bert, and when he gets his from other puppets he turns into a little pussy cat...boo hoo...serves you right Ernie...I always loved Bert much better and thumbs up to the Count for sticking it to him!!!!!!

  • i agree with you it was kinna nice to see ernie get it in the neck by the way when was count's first street scene

  • OMG lmao wow classic sesame street with the count and he had his powers i forgot all about these episodes XD thanx for puttin this up

  • This is so cute! MY childhood companions... I used to wish that all Bert and Ernie would come alive out of the TV and be my real friends. They are still my favourite characters in Sesame Street of all time! :p

  • The organ music is hilarious!

  • Does anybody know which Sesame Street DVD has Bert's "6" song?

  • *roffle*

    The Count is my idol!

  • Man, the Count used to be an evil bastard!

  • yeah i know! :O

  • I remember this one. The count used to scare me when he made Bert and Ernie freeze like that. lol

  • Great clip. Count is such a weirdo ... even Bert thinks he's a little odd (the way he says "Hi, Count" and "I know").

  • I didn't know the Count could cast spells. Is it true that the Count is gone now?

  • I don't think so....

  • Naw, he's still around. He dropped the hypnotic powers around maybe the mid-1970s.

  • there was another skit with the Count and his hypnotic powers, the one with Grover as the waiter, when the Count wanted to count hotdogs and when Grover refused, the Count hypnotized Grover to bring more hotdogs, i wish someone would put that one on Youtube! :D

  • wiley: And he needs them and his lightning/thunder back! He's not the cool Count without them!

  • He still had the thunder and lightning this season. And the amazing thing is that he's always been performed by Jerry Nelson for over 30 years!

  • silence !!!

  • Poor Ernie! LOL good skit. I liked this one! 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, No wait! I counted those ones before!

  • what happened? at the end?

  • I remember this skit too back from the 70's when I used to live in Tasmania. The Count scared me a little bit in those days when he first appeared but I was in my early teens then! (Tassie) Queensland

  • "look....blocks!" LOL!!!

  • OH MY GOD! Have never seen this before and cannot believe how funny the Count is! I never remember him being so funny! :D

  • silence! lol :P

  • The Count was soooo evil then. :O

  • Oh, heck yes: I have a feeling CTW dropped the Count's hypnotic powers because that scared kids too badly. Nowadays, the only vampire-like things about him are his fangs, costume, and affinity for bats. (Not every vampire is an Eastern European nobleman, even in horror movies...)

  • The count rules!

  • yeah it did! :O

  • Dave Chappelle was right!!! The Count is THE PIMP!!!!

  • I sure like the ending music ;)

  • Wow, The Count Never curses anyone anymore.

  • yeah, i think it is because little kids were too scared of that so maybe that is why they decided not to have him hypnotize anymore muppets. That is my guess.

  • I like the Count's newer voice... tis funnier

  • this is an early sketch. I've never seen this before.

  • did anyone notice that when bert told ernie what the count did they sounded like they already new each other athou it wa an early time

  • 666 The number of the beast hehehehe

  • At least the early, evil Count has enough scruples to apologize. Wa-ha-ha-ha!

  • omg I LUV The Count :D

  • Check out that beard on the early Count! I never knew he was in ZZ Top...

  • lol on the count's paralysis powers (forgotten) and the lightning graphic. I'm glad Count wasn't a prick like the early years, but I did prefer his pre-surgery nose. Thanks Bip for posting! and thanks also to the block-lovers who posted :-)

  • you didn't think he wasn't a prick in the early years? He hypnotized Ernie and Bert and took apart Ernie's pyramid, if that is not being a prick i don't know what is. :/

  • I agree with you, my comment didn't come out right. I meant to say, I'm glad he wasn't always a prick like he was in the early years.

  • yeah the count was a bit pushy, but he was cool

  • Poor Ernie looked terrified. :(

  • You have to admit, The Count was really creepy when he first appeared on the show. First impressions aren't always the best. After a while people started to like him by getting to know him better. The Count has been a favorite of mine for years, and still is a favorite today.

  • The Count is such a bully! >:(

  • wow. i forgot what an *ss the count used to be. i'm glad he mellowed out after this. i wonder how many kids emulated the count and became neighborhood bullies....

  • Thank You so much for posting this up. Please don't remove it. This was The Count's first apperance on Sesame Street.

  • The best is when the Count sleeps over and Bert and Ernie's and spends the night counting sheep.

  • Ernie was really scary in that skit when he had those blood shot eyes! :O

  • Now that you mention it, does anyone have a clip of that skit?

  • that would be great if someone put the skit with Grover and the Count, and Grover ran back and forth from the kitchen to bring Count hotdogs. :D

  • OH MY GOSH!!! I forgot all about this one. Thanks for posting.

  • The count sounds very very different on the clip. Anyone can confirm?

  • That's definitely Jerry Nelson. I believe this was the Count's first ever appearance - maybe that's why he sounds different. You know, kind of like how Ernie and Bert sounded a little different in their first few appearances.

  • Hey, Count! Leave those blasted blocks alone! You shouldn't....

Count: SILENCE!!! [stupefies me; which I become dizzy] I am counting. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 blocks! [thunder & lightning] Ah, ha, ha, ha, ha!

  • They never use lightning bolt graphics anymore like they used to.

  • The Count was sure sinister back then. :O

  • Wow,the blocks in this clip always reminded me of big pieces of Starburst....if you have a clear picture of it...mmmmmm...Starbursts!!

  • yes. I always thought they looked very yummy. :d

  • yum yummy :) I love the tropical ones. This clip rocks :D too bad no one would dare show it on tv now (Ack!!)

  • yeah they do look like Starbursts, i wish i had some right now. :D

  • Whenever I would see this when I was little, I always wanted to chew on those blocks so damn bad! I think it had something to do with the colors and smooth texture. They seem chewy, like those wax tubes with the liquid juice inside.

  • WOW I can not believe what I am reading While I was watching this I was thinking to myself "flashback coming...the blocks...the colors, smooth edges, loved them", then I see not one, but several posts on the same subject?! In fact, the video quality is rough so I was actually wondering if I was remembering a different clip but the other posts make me think this was probably the one.

  • I too always wanted to bite into those soft blocks! Glad to see I am not the only one.

  • That is HY-sterical - I forgot how the Count would "stupefy" folks.... too funny to watch them do that!

  • No, is that a more recent video. That doesnt sound like something 60's thru 80's. I want the one where the count is in his castle and looks with disgust at his mirror, has a mail man drop by to give give him some mail to count but not read. There was very scary music in it and I don't mean the music in the 7 bats sketch this is even more scary. Even grownups could have nightmares from it.

  • this skit was scary to me because of the reaction of Bert and Ernie's faces when the count hypnotized them. :O

  • I remember the one you are talking about. The scary music is still fresh in my mind, even though I saw it a very long time ago!

  • It's on the site.

  • I recall that skit, Bip: "You're a terrible mirror, but that's no reflection on you, of course."

  • Fantastic! Do you have the one where the Count goes into Charlie's Restaurant and orders hot dogs to count?

  • I'm looking for that one too! The hot dog skit was a little creepier, but a classic nevertheless!
