@jcgamer107 if you notice, he doesn't really "get into it" in any video of him...that's just how he is. Calm, focused and almost kind of nervous like. But that's what made Elliott Smith, Elliott Smith. It just wouldn't be the same if he was jumping around the stage. Think about it, if you had clinical depression would you be hopping around joyously..?
I wish there could've been elliott quadruplets on stage... other musicians including his back up band just can't seem to match the magic of elliott in the studio recordings on almost all instruments.
Damn I love this song. I wish he looked a little more like he enjoyed playing it - to me it just kind of seems like they're going through the motions a little bit. For all I know he is, I guess it'd just be cooler to see them get into it more, cause I LOVE the studio version of this song and it rocks so hard.
@jcgamer107 Dude, He was a cobain story... He hated the fact that he was mainstream. this was just supposed to be a way to get his thoughts out of his head. he didnt want to play in front of hundreds of people.. he was also a heroin addict. he wasn't too happy with himself... RIP Elliott, We loved you every step of the way.
@christopher2step he was never on the level of scrutiny that Cobain was. it is such a lazy comparison to make.
and at the time Elliott died he was NOT ON DRUGS, he had been clean for a while. and this was proved by the coroners report after his death - it's an unfortunate and shitty misconception to peddle - drugs were not influencing his decision making at the time of his death
@williampatrickcorgan what you fail to realise is that once you come off drugs, you are in a 'honey moon' period - where everything is perfect and fine; you feel great. then you hit the ground and feel like shit. I suspect this happened to poor elliott.
Thanks so much for posting this. I was there, sitting on the steps of the NYS Museum. I remember he asked "Does anyone like Big Star" and I cheered, but I was the only one. Then he played "Thirteen."
