  • Actually it does, for $1500 you can buy a new spring to hold the wastegate closed, a mapclamp to hide boost, a manual boost controler, chopped off exhaust, and a set of slicks. This is all that is needed for 290whp which with some weight reduction (seats, interior, ac, ps, random other crap that is free to remove) is enough to run a high 11 quater mile (which is only shaving 2 seconds off, Most decent drivers with stock cars on street tires can run 13.8) Its the ghetto way to do it but it works

  • @uhlmane There's quite a couple V8 cars running 7s that are street driven and at least 2 6 second V8 cars. At least, posted here on youtube. I'm sure there are more than that, because even at my elevation of about 4400 feet above sea level there are a few 8 second street driven V8 mills, meaning at a lower elevation they more than likely would be in the 7s. I'm not hating on 4 cylinder cars, 'cause I DD a 15 second one, but there is no replacement for displacement. That's why my Camaro's quicker

  • @candle3k The replacement for displacement is boost. If as many people built 4banger drag cars as v8 cars you would see street driven ones but plain and simple it's not worth it to street drive one. People who do just have money to burn.

  • @uhlmane I've seen a street driven GT35R 2.4 swapped 98 ACR neon. That thing ran 10s and he had traction problems the whole time. It's cool to see street driven boosted neons. And you could turbo or supercharge a V8 just as easily a 4 cylinder, and guess what? It'll be faster still.

  • Stock the SRT-4 ran equal to, and in some cases faster, than the V8s of its time when they still produced it 4 years ago. Considering that it can still at least keep up with the new models, in many cases beating them in the 1/4 with a good driver, that's pretty impressive. There are also plenty of vids of 4-cyl cars running those #'s...but it takes a lot of mods. It takes a lot of mods for mustangs and camaros to run those numbers too, and at the end of the day most aren't street legel.

  • Just like uhlmane said there's plenty of 6 and seven second cars that are 4 bangers... type in darrel cox srt4 he has a 7sec srt4 and a 9sec streetable srt4... not to say that yes a v8 has larger displacement meaning the 4 cylinder is limited to how much air can be put into a 1 1/2 to 3 liter motor. But by the time you get to the point where 4 cylinders are no longer capable in the 1/4 of keeping up with v8's 4's and 5's it doesnt really matter because you could never enjoy those on the street.

Now they got valve timing technology, port flow design technology, & turbo (2 name a few) that raises volumetric efficiency and levels out the playing field.

I'd be happy to have that 'super car' edge over the next guy at the tree. But when I get beat by a knife in a gun fight, why would I cry about it? I'd be impressed. Good for them.   • @mustang4091 its funny that mustangs also run high 13-14s stock dont u think? if u take a really highly modded srt4 it can run into the 9s with fwd and still street legal. if u want a 4 banger that can run 7s then just search for john sheppards eagle talon. but the real point is that stock srt4s are as fast or faster than stock mustangs hands down. so i dont care how fast the car can be with alot of money and mods. i care that i can make a v8 mustang look silly cuz it cant beat a NEON.

  • john sheppard lives right down the road from me, he builds evo's now. his cars were freaks of nature, you have no idea what he did to make those cars do what they did. and fyi my stock v6 f-body kills stock gt's so congrats on having a turbo 4banger that can barely do what a stock v6 can, funny how a stock srt-4 wont beat a stock ls1 car. hence why most serious mustang guys buy cobras, which even modded srt-4s have trouble keeping up, nice try though

  • @BlackBirdv6 now dont start spreading lies. my srt4 stock ran a 13.9@102. no stock v6 f-body is anywhere near that. im not talking about stock 5.0 foxbodies that run 15s but apparently u are. and as a matter of fact a v6 f-body probably runs more like high 15s in the low 90mph range right? and a stock ls1 is only about half a second faster than me in the quarter. just DRs can make up that amount of time.

  • im talking about a stock 2000 gt 5 speed, and my stock v6 ran a low 15 at about 98 mph with a full tank of fuel spinning bad in first and second, and my stock ls1 t/a runs low low 13's on all season tires. so i dont know who your getting your facts from, but you are terribly misinformed.

  • @BlackBirdv6 well im talking about keeping up with 300hp 05 gts. my stock car ran a 13.9@102 stock like i said. so ur v6 firebird isnt going to run with my srt4. and yea i know ls1 cars are fast. however im only taking the average of what i read. i see people saying 13.2-13.7. ive also heard of a few guys running 13.7s with stock srt4s. i didnt but ive heard it. and anyway im thinking of an ls2 gto for my next car so im not talking shit on v8s...just this mustang doucher.

  • @mustang4091 srt4 can run 11's with about $1500 in modification. Evo's are the same. Takes more than that to get most "muscle cars" to run 11's.

    dude i agree that $1,500 will get you nowhere near 11 (I know a guy who has an srt-4 that beats almost any other car but he put $15,000 in it) but the srt-4 and evo both come with turbos in them, and are made for speed the axles are god in them.. that's all stock though for a 10 second car they would need a ton of mods and money

  • @xStealthxSniperx the stock SRT4 axles are fairly heavy. They can handle up to around the 350-400hp range before you should have to replace them. You can definitely make an srt4 run high 11's for less than 2k

  • @xStealthxSniperx actually you can get new axles at autozone for $60 a piece with a warantee, it takes a n00b an hour to change an axle....its not a big deal at all.

Honestly I LOVE American Msucle but normally tuners are cheaper and faster and more practical! Of course most V8's can hold more power being that they are 4.6-7.0L Engines while these tuners are 1.3-2.5L Turbo motors its obvious, but to each their own.

  • That was a godly launch for a FWD. SRT-4 + slicks = awesome. Add in a 50 trim and supporting mods with a tune, and you've got one hard car to beat.  Wish I could afford to 50 trim my own...

  • There is no "tuner chip" for LS1s. You simply tune the computer with a laptop, link cable, and LS1edit, or HPTuners.

    If not, I apologise, I really didn't know that a company had actually produced one.

    It doesn't really make much sense since a tune can achive so much more and be more accurate.

  • 11.65@122.3 to 12.14@116.7 is a pretty hard stomp.  Half second is an eternity at the far end of the strip.

  • I suppose it's really a matter of opinion, but considering that there are examples of both cars running far faster, and slower than the two mentioned, a half second isn't really that much to me.

  • You must not go to the track very much. A half second is a lot at the traps.
