Never seen this movie before, but had it's sound track record when I was little. It is a shame that it has been hidden for so long. I had to wait 30 years for the internet to come along, just to see a fine movie and a good actor playing Uncle Remus.
Anyone who wants to censor this movie because they find it racist should probably grow a thicker skin. Probably the type of people that get offended whenever the wind blows, they kind that are impossible to work around.
OMG!!!!!!!!!!!1 thank you SOOOOO much for uploading this movie!! you have no idea how long I've been looking for it!!! really!! i'M soooo happy now!! thank you thank you thank you!
If I was a racist, this movie would offend me. In the movie, white children look up to a black man; the old lady calls on Uncle Remus to help with the injured child; Uncle Remus holds the boy's hand while the boy lay injured in bed; the black people are no longer slaves since it takes place after the Civil War. Yep, very offensve for a racist. That's why I like it.
This film isn't racist all you over political piss wits out there. This is based around the civil war and things were different back then and it was made just after WWII and things were different then. The point is that this is a lovely story about lovely characters. So shut up and enjoy the dam thing rather then complaining about 'racism'.
The Walt Disney Company has turned its back on its heritage. The only films it is interested in promoting are things like High School Musical and Hannah Montana. The company has made very few of its live action films from the real Walt Disney available for the public. As for Song of the South being "racist", this is a ludicrous charge. It is no more "racist" than Gone With the Wind, an no one has talked about banning that film- at least not yet.
this film is not racist well i dont find it racist at all, its taking from a time where it was REALLY RACIST....but its not trying to be racist towards anyone
You have to order the movie from another country and get it sent it...its still hard to find but its possible...and it might not be on DVD (meaning VHS) lol
@1mnmfan It's considered racist and politically incorrect and many blacks found this film extremely offensive because they were enslaved and looked on as outcasts and claimed that white people in this were mimicking their pronounciation but that's southern speak. Johnny talks more Atlantaish and posh so that's not a problem but Disney had gone off this heritage and banned it because people had complained about it. Walt himself wasn't too keen on it either so that also explains your answer.
Implying Gone with the Wind wasn't racist as well. Any film that sugar coats the horrors of the plantation system is racist. Let's compare the misty eyed appreciation for pre war Georgia in this film with Roots. Notice anything?
@Judex777 Gone with the Wind is more racist than this one, and it isn't banned. It's definitely wrong to sugar-coat the horrors of slavery, as you said... But I see this movie as a kid's movie, for one thing, and it seems to be told through innocent eyes to an innocent audience that couldn't fully understand or appreciate the hard truth. Also, this movie is not ABOUT slavery, it's about stories and life and childhood. :)
mayan castle dvd.net is offering a better print for 14.95 which is more rascist scarlet slapping prissy in gwtw? madingo? or ruth warwicks characters telling uncle remus not to tell her son any more stories ?disney corporations is back stabingly conservative they are hiding behind soft communist censorship to save money we fans of classic films cant give them the greedy dollar any more political correctness is not liberalism part of true liberalism is to tolerate the past booth good and bad
I wish one day, we would be able to see this movie in all of its uncut NTSC 94-minute glory, without the Japanese subtitles. Unfortunate that the Japanese home video releases are the only way to see this movie in its native NTSC format.
@vnisanianisback Actually this from a bootleg VHS copy of the japanese laserdisc release of Song Of The South that I found on ebay in october and I was going to be 18 in a couple of weeks and I was able to get because it was in NTSC format and I hated the uk version because of the pitches. I decided to upload the movie since today nobody is able to see this movie.
@vnisanianisback But yeah I agree with you. Song Of The South needs to be realised on DVD but they called this movie antiquated’ and ‘fairly offensive. I don't anything offensive about it and I've wanted to see this film ever since I was a little boy. But who knows when?
Would not presenting this film on American DVD make Disney more of a racist company? Okay, granted, they have a reason to ban this because of the inpollitically correct setting... BUT IT WON AN AWARD FOR ZIP-A-DEE-DO-DAH... and it's not really that controversial (except for the cartoon violence shown... figures) Plus, Disney should give a warning to the families and an introduction on why it was wrong back then and why it's wrong today. BLAME THE MOTHERS OF TODAY!
Thank you so much for uploading this!

I don't get how this is considered racist. It's just historically accurate. Is it any different than Gone with the Wind?
