Don't know whether they still make them, but the Beatles were using special recording mikes.

Paul and George are that close together because those mikes have only a 6" radius to keep out feedback from the other instruments. Since they're all playing together it looks like they're doing demo and not mixing yet.

I think it's great that the Beatles are coming onto their third generation of fans. They had it where it counts. They didn't have to be dolled-up freaks or have trashy stage shows.

@matthewrenshaw Yeah the vocals are a little flat during the intro, but by the time they say "if you don't take her out tonight she's gonna change her mind," they've adjusted. That's what happens when you're awesome enough to just walk into the studio and lay it down all at once, instead of track by auto-tuned track! Wouldn't change those small errors for anything! :)

@jasperwoods Yeah, you're right they did do a lot of double tracking, especially Lennon (apparently he didn't like the sound of his voice unless it was double tracked, but don't quote me on that). Early in their careers though, they would just go into the studio and play their instruments and sing all the parts at once, as if on stage. I thought this song was an example of that, but I looked it up and they actually did record it track by track in the studio, so I stand corrected.
