"Without the white/blue, the 3 top platforms would break simultaneously, on the double step :(."
Wouldn't this give both a huge score boost and a large multiplier for the next combos? I've recently been sailing whilst attempting to clear targets simultaneously, and it works very well for me.
I always count step K as a xK multiplier, regardless of simul. So:
4n12p4p
is not as good as
4n8p8p
since the only difference is that 4 of the platform balls have a x3 instead of x2 multiplier.
I.e., the problem would have been the meager x2 multiplier on many of the platforms; the simultaneity neither adds nor detracts. As a practical matter simul. is quite useful if it's used late in large combos; it helps pack in more balls in the late stages.
I also made sure that the midnight curve wasn't harder at the top end (by creating an alt there (now dormant) and getting #1). For me, the Viridian curve was harder to top.
I have not gotten around to testing the Ice curve. I expect it is no harder to top than the Viridian curve; just steeper in the beginning.
Only if a) you can't build the next combo within 3 minutes, and b) the combo is too small to balance 3 minutes worth of moves.
If you can do those things -- speed does not matter. At all. Seriously.
I can: the video begins at sparkly and stays that way. That's normal. Which is why I'm #1.
I invite Hunter sailors to try the Viridian curve. For that matter, should I get really bored I'll go bother to demonstrate I can top the Hunter curve too.
It's fun to build big combos quickly. I enjoy doing that. Sailing *better*, however, is not about size or speed.
Too big dilutes the value of platforms; too fast results in less efficient placement of each piece. For example, NNPPPPNNNN, a vegas 5, is worse than NNPPPP, a `mere' vegas, by more than 10% -- because it dilutes the platforms too much. Even NNPPPPNNNNNNNNN, a vegas 10, is about 10% worse than NNPPPP.
ok so i'm gonna take a shot in the dark here and assume that n and p stand for normal and platform clears?
if that is the case, are you're saying you believe the NNPPPPNNNNNNNNN is worse than the NNPPPP because the bonus from the extra vegases isn't big enough to offset the penalty of using extra pieces?
if not, then what do you mean by 'diluting the platforms too much'?
Yes. Platforms are worth 3-5 times what normal clears are. So the math is
1x4+2x4+3x4xB + 4x4xB + ...
divided by however many pieces were played, where
B is however much more platforms are worth than normal clears. Basically, at a vegas, you have 6 step * 4 balls * platform bonus, which even if it is only 2, is worth more than a normal clear at the 11th step. Normal clears at the end lower the average.
Nice tuto man, I do it that way but i was never sure if the rest did it that way. Thank ye

Long thin setup -- big fat payload.

Very nice, what ocean do u play?

Answering Xeni's question:
"Did you slow down the speed to make the videos? Geo plays so fast..."
No, I play slower than Geo. Speed isn't important.
Wyriel 2 years ago
Too slow for a vegas 3
and speed is kind of important
cuz if ur moving too slow the sailing indicator might fall to blue colour

Well yeah #1 whatever.... but still it would be nice to do a vegas 3 in 1 minute rather than 2 minutes
And yes you're right. A vegas 3 can hold your sparkly sails for 2 or 3 minutes
But i can do better than vegas 3 in 2 minutes usually it reaches vegas 5 or above if im in the mood
