The key word is "suspects". I haven't seen the full clip of Obama but i find it unlikely that he said someone suspected of terrorism deserves no rights. He was far more likely referring to actual terrorists. Unless there is proof or substantial evidence that they are guilty the suspect should be given every right given to anyone else until enough evidence can be supplied. I think it is important to stop murderers, but ignoring rights because of what we suspect someone did just seems wrong.

If what this sick mind advocates comes to pass, anyone who rightly or wrongly ever gets labeled a 'terrorist' can be treated in any way without any regard for due process or even humanitarian considerations. And so far that's what's happened in many cases when his view has prevailed, we now know. Abu Ghraib proved it but it went on in many other places too, it was not isolated, America tortured its prisoners. Every American should be ashamed of themselves, and it did NOT make us safer.

So, the actions of a few terrorists is deemed an 'act of war', but instead of being treated as such under the Geneva Conventions, they're reclassified 'illegal combatants'.

Except some people forget every 'terrorist' rotting at Gitmo is not necessarily guilty. Apparently some at least were framed by their enemies who collected rewards for turning them in. And the ONLY evidence against them is what their enemies said. This is not how Americans do things, we are supposed to be civilized.

All the more reason why this "war on terror" is a very bad policy. We need a exit strategy out of this war, it is costing us too much money that we can't afford. We need to think smarter about how we react to provocations & how to manage those provocations so we aren't duped into further terrible policies.

Look at North Korea for example, they are doing everything they can to lure us into conflict with them, they and China know full well that it is a great way to bolster them and weaken us...
