You can wait 6-7 but it will take longer to to get there than getting your hair dreaded now and growing into 6-7 inches. Hair grow faster when they're braided or dreaded for some reason.

I cut mine after 13 years. I wish I had video taped the event. My spirit told me it was time so I did it. In the end its just hair, its just hair. I cant imagine saying that i will never cut my toenails. After I cut them i was amazed/ashamed at how much i had allowed a style of hair to define who i am as a person. Im glad you put your studies first and did what you needed to do.
