  • i will never get tired of this song, it's my favorite song off the CD. I can't help but dance, it makes me so happy and hopeful about love :)

  • This song makes my heart smile :D

  • i find this easy to masturbate to.

  • I hope Bubble (James Holland) is getting paid for this.

  • Glad the brutha cleaned up and changed the his jams. His music wants me to ride slow and low along the Blvd in SOCAL while the sun sets.

  • I just love this song !! lol its soo !! HOT !

  • music that elevates :)

  • brother got too much soul..

  • INTERPOLATION DAMN,IT!

  • coolest guy in music today...

  • RUFUS THOMAS" THE BREAKDOWN"

  • @kinstube IS THE SAMPLE

  • @kinstube wrong.

  • @kinstube

huh whut? i dont hear the breakdown?

  • JAMMA!

  • douch

  • I think I'm in love.

  • MAYBE SO,MAYBE NO-THE NEW HOLIDAYS

  • wait a minute, what exactly is this dude doing differently? This sounds EXACTLY like the original? Shouldn't he mention that it's a cover at least in the song title (ie: "The New Holidays Cover) instead of JUST putting his name there? I've noticed a few of his songs are like this as well... He isn't really "borrowing" but just removing the old vocals and replacing it with his own... this is nothing new. I mean, if he's not doing anything different from the original, i'd rather hear the old vers.

  • @Jafro87 It's called a Cover, it's suppose to be the same song with different Vocals that's what a Cover is. Just because the Youtube user who uploaded this video didn't give credit doesn't mean Mayer Hawthorne didn't. This Isn't his Youtube he didn't upload the Video. If you're confused "google" the definition of a Cover.

  • I adore Mayer.♥

  • wots the name of dis SAMPLE ??!!! holla

  • Actually it is a cover, original is by "The New Holidays".

  • I got this after looking up yaoi on mystery google.

  • Dude is good but original style? Come on. He is obviously biting oldies songs. Just because he is the only one doing it right now does not mean he has an original style.

  • if you hadnt noticed, all music is biting from oldies tracks. if you take the time and go study up on classical, you'll realize bach, mozart, wagner, all of them pretty much did every note progression, timing, chords available. music will never totally be original. people have their own styles, but nothing is ever original nowadays.

  • oh yes there is..wait for Mysterio Unsolved

  • Maybe not entirely original, but this dude just straight up ripped the original. Give the old one a listen (The New Holidays, same song title) and you'll hear the exact same song, DJ's who sample are a bit different than this; they take just a bit, not the entire song and pass it off as their own like this dude...

  • @Jafro87 He didn't sample shit. He played and recorded all the instruments himself.

  • @DrAnkles Do you think these are his lyrics? Or his song for that matter?

  • There's so many rare musician with their own styles these days. Mayer Hawthorne is one of them

  • good music

  • this guy would tear shit up on a Dilla track..

  • reminds me at Pete Rock & CL Smooth track from '93

  • Got the album the day it came back. Timeless.

  • really nice...

  • motown!!! keep doing what ya doing man...

  • Mayer Hawthorne :>

is the best musican now days :D

  • Rap is bad for our future! Thank you Mayer for bringing us music that talks about love something our youth is lacking...

  • uh...excuse me, don't make a judgment about rap based on the stupid mainstream stuff, which I'm assuming is the case cuz u wouldn't say that if you knew about hip hop outside of MTV and BET. See, good hip hop doesn't come out on the airwaves, which is the fault of record execs and rap artists who write superficial stuff to easily obtain a record deal

    /watch?v=lzGIKShL1SI

    -Blu-Greater Love

    -guy coming up recently

    xxPeacExx

btw, lovin Mayer Hawthorne's style; love the moods he creates

  • Back in the day, good music came from everyway. Now you have to work hard to find it so I'm guessing that's what they mean. You could find a Common Sense (Common), ATCQ, Lyricist Lounge, Das Efx, old school hip-hop folks on these stations and radio during '93 now you can't so it's really up to people to now go and sift through garbage to find a good artist these days, especially in Hip-Hop.

  • wow you're the first person i've ever heard who referred to Lyricist Lounge. You're up on the right stuff haha. Yea I feel everything you're saying. And I shouldn't have said that good rap doesn't come on the airwaves at all. However, it's hard to come by. a lot of it is the pop rap, if you want to call it that.

btw, im not one of the people who believe hip hop is dead.

however, to certain interests' content, rap's original voice for oppressed peoples has been stifled. commoditization anyone?

  • seriously... couldn't have said it better myself. mainstream hip hop is retarded and just horrible to listen too. it has nothing to say. i dont wanna hear about how you made a living selling crack, coke, meth, whatever. oh man now i should try and write music about my hard life. your life is hard because your dumb and uneducated. their are however exceptions to mainstream hip hop such as, TI, Ludacris(back in the day), and Eminem.

  • LOL

  • I mean ludacris is still lightweight holdin it down. thas my boy out of the mainstream basically. Yea the other two definitely paid dues in the mainstream

  • @tonylove16 Don't worry. People often fail to realize that there is a big difference between rap & hip hop.

  • Enough ot T-Pain, Kanye, Lady Guyguy and the rest, bring on the motown soul. This dude is awesome. We still listen to classic rock so why not old school motown style tracks? Genius.

  • its not a original its a cover by the holidays!

  • This is pretty faithful to the original but just not as nice. He doesn't have that much of a voice, does he?

  • I don't know why they are giving u negative feedback. He's a dj. The story is, he made a couple of singin tracks as a joke but they sounded like this and they were hot; like this track. He's in artist in that he knows how to arrange voice and sound; it's very cohesive. Like i think you're implying, he sings well enough for what he's trying to do with the track; but he doesn't have a special voice. It's distinct however.

  • great job!!!

  • soul is bbbback!

  • hahaha! soul will have more balls than you ever will fuckin loser!

  • jeez

  • hey you! burn in hell!!

  • i heard it on xpn too. i love this dude.

  • why am I promoting this guy? he's the featured artist of the week on WXPN 88.5 out of Phil.

    he's great.

  • Great song, badly needed this re-fix. Good shit.

  • What a great cover song this is!!!

  • incredible

  • wow this is hot!!!

  • I love the way he's bringing back an old classic r'n'b sound . It's a welcome change from the regular bull... only shame is, i can't imagine it being played on the radio.

  • i heard it on the radio! thats how i found out about it. Not a mainstream radiostation but still..

  • yeah i mean it might be able to be played on the radio. maybe not this song but his other single "Just Ain't Gonna Work Out". I mean look at Amy Winehouse, she sorta has the throwback sound too. But yeah he doesn't really have to worry about radio play, he's on stonesthrow records which definately has a huge following already. but yo i dig this a lot too man.

  • @hellahighchris things like this are played on good radio stations like KCRW.

  • @hellahighchris you need to listen to 89.9 KCRW (Santa Monica, CA Radio) hand picked music. go to KCRW.com or download the app from Android Market, or Apple's App store.

  • @hellahighchris haha just heard it on..wait for it..the radio:D cheers

  • @hellahighchris

You can't imagine it being played on the radio, huh? Well that's the beauty of it, friend. Us hipsters can keep this stuff to ourselves, haha.

  • @JohnRadicaster I just heard it on a local independent radio station, WRFG 89.3FM in Atlanta!

  • @JohnRadicaster Fuck you hipsters. This guy isn't even obscure or anything, you fucking poser.

  • @DracoX9 You need to settle down. It doesn't have to be obscure. Go listen to Of Montreal or Flaming Lips if you want obscure.

  • @JohnRadicaster When did I say I wanted obscure? This guy is a fucking poser for saying he's a hipster when this isn't even obscure.

And btw, hipsters don't call themselves hipsters. That's called a jackass.

  • @DracoX9 You sure know a lot of useless information. Get a life.

  • @JohnRadicaster Somebody needs to get out of their cave and stop being such an asswipe. Useless information? Oh my goddd what a fag!

  • @DracoX9 Chill out dude. You're the one who is getting all worked up. Plus, you started this by making an unnecessary comment.

  • @JohnRadicaster It was pretty necessary.

  • @DracoX9 Mayer Hawthorne is a poser? Wow what a keyboard faggot you are. You sure do know alot of useless info. Hipsters dont call themselves hipsters? Well they are hipsters anyway so what is there to be proud of? That's like saying, "Real white men dont call themselves white". So are you saying the white men that do call themselves white are fake? Shut your fucking idiot mouth and never use it again to argue with someone online, or I will slap you again with my e-penis. You dildo.

  • @thangQanime I don't remember calling Mayer Hawthorne a poser. You fucking faggot. good day.

  • @DracoX9 Hahaha You have a shitty memory then you pussy ass bitch. Let me refresh it for you by once again slapping you with my e-penis. "This guy is a fucking poser for saying he's a hipster when this isn't even obscure." Did that help? What kind of dumbass doesn't remember shit that they said themselves. FAIL! Who's the faggot now? Hm?

  • @thangQanime "This guy" = hellahighchris

Guy I was talking to = JohnRadicaster

    Not Mayer Hawthorne

    Grow some nuts

  • @DracoX9 I have lost this argument.

  • @thangQanime Respectably. Good job & good day

  • @DracoX9 I concur. And a good one to you as well, sir.

  • Sorry that I came across as 'a total ass' about correcting you, your 'Actually he writes all is songs' struck me as arrogant and sneering (as well as completely incorrect!). so i thought that would be the only type of language that you understand.

at least you know what you are talking about now.

  • hmmm.. he doesnt really have a great voice, he didnt write it, he just copied it. it's just an inferior cover of a decent soul track. everything about this version is standard. it's nice, but really, nothing special, the credit should go to the original...

  • Actually he writes all his songs

  • no datvakid. 'Actually' he didnt write this track. in fact you're are cringemakingly wrong. The New Holidays released this in 1969. there is even a link over there > check it out, learn something, and dont be such a know it all, unless you know what you are talking about.

  • There is a difference between correcting someone and then being a total ass about it. I was mistaken because all his other soul music was 100percent original and created by himself. And before you tell me to learn something about music i was raised on and that i make check yourself.

  • He's the illest

  • awesome uthentic late 60s early 70s cover of a detroit 45 (warped) that hands on my wall "new holidays" this guy takes me back to my old vinyl

  • This guy is dope..but all he's doing is recreating a sound from the 60's early 70's. I dont know about calling him a God but thats just my opinion. I will cop the album when it drops.

  • called soul and funk!

  • I can't w8 for the album to drop =)

I will be one of the first to Blast it =)

Thank you for the Music Stonethrow

  • the guy is a god

his music is like the coolest music i have ever herd...cant wait till september

  • maybe you should start to listen to some old motown & detroit records..

  • do they sound like this ???

  • pantie dropping smooth jam

  • Check for Lee Fields for that real soul sound.

  • This kid has some unreal talent! You have to give props to a cat that's keepin' the strong ol school sound alive!

  • dude this is a cover. hes def really good, but give credit to where it belongs.

  • i love this song, i catch myself singing it at work!!!

  • are there any other artists with this kinda style of music ??

  • try 'back to black' by Amy Winehouse. not really the same but check it out if you haven't already.

  • check out 'dimity claire and the bleeding hearts'

  • try Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings, they are very good

  • SOOOOOOOO SOUL lovely... ;D

  • This dude is DOPE. He got that soul spirit in him.

  • this is a 100% cover tho. look it up through the link on the right.

  • oh god. normally i don't even listen to stuff like this, but this one got me charmed. :]

    i like the song's feel <3

  • I like what I've heard so far, and I'll be sure to give him a try when his album is released. But I'm doubting he's going to put out anything that would make him appeal to a mainstream audience, nor put him on the same level as other white R&B artists, like Robin Thicke.

But don't get me wrong--I like out-of-the-mainstream artists. Their sound tends to be more raw and less concerned with vocal precision. Keep it up, Mayer. You might surprise us with a hit.

  • he already has.

  • AWESOME

  • His style, sound, and soulfulness so reminicient of my favorite R&B (Gamble & Huff produced) group ...The Intruders!
