I don't know if you got to watch the Olympics in the US-but the gymnasts were featured in podium training with the US gals all in neon pink lol. Podium training is so the athletes and the judges also can get used to the equipment on the raised podium and the competition format. . Basically training on the Olympic stage in the days leading up to the competition. I think different teams worked out at different times each day. I'm not sure if nbc still has some video footage up. Hope that helps.
Lol! I 'face-planted' many a vault in my day-in that sense I have a very slight feel for what Shushu felt when she crashed-only at a much lower level. ;-)
And may you never know the 'um...pleasure of it. It's quite a unique experience. I actually recall even the coaches laughing lol. *cringe inducing memory...* ;)
WOW!!!! Shushunova was amazing!!! I don't know if Gavrichenkov helped too much because she is gets exquisite height. Her legs are a bit bent but who cares! This was 19 years ago!!!
not even now many gymnasts at the top level stick a double twisting yurchenko like she did here

That vault was flawless...

I wish they had Silivas's training footage as well. I have read she nailed the double double on fx in the warmup. I'd love to see it!

Shushunova is huge, its exercises are original and very complex, difficult to execute, in jump he was campeona of the world.

The mind boggles at the thought of what such great vaulters as Shushu, Nelli Kim, and Retton could do with today's springier vault tables.
