I still like the old Lotus Esprit. It was timeless. I wish they didn't change the styling so drastically. With Lamborghini, the styling changes from the Countach to the Diablo to the Murcielago was evolutionary. You knew it was a Lamborghini. Porsche is the same.
Unfortunately. this Esprit has nothing in common with the old Esprit.
@hondaciviccoupe10 if you look at the Esprit in 76 then in 2004 you'll see it wasn't timeless but evolved into a completely different car! But theres been no evolution since '04 because unlike Lamborghini and Porsche Lotus haven't been making a car at that high end pricepoint. This car is no more out of place than the original italian designed S1 Esprit. It's not an Elise.
only Lotus can make the esprit, and design a car the is truly a legand, even the 2003 -04 last models still hold their value in status.. if you probably figured out, I have a 2003 MY.. :-) I love it, hard to maintian if you dont know anyone.
Pretty car. But too many references to Lamborghini and Ferrari. A bit overstyled in my opinion. I miss the "British-ness" of what made the Lotus unique unto itself.
@rebelheart1968 You mean like the original Esprit designed by an Italian? It couldn't have looked less like a british car and the Lotus cars before it.
I don't like it. It doesn't look like an Esprit, I'd like to see the Giugiaro style of the first Esprit (wich is still very modern today), not a Lamborghini imitation. They have to change all the style otherwise this car will be a flop.
@IwantaLexusLFA The original esprit looked like a lamborghini as well. There are still many design cues to the old S3 turbo there too. Mind you giugiaro had alot to do with the countach (spelling a little iffy there) as well.
If this performs as well as its looks, it should be a rival for the Italia, mclaren and Gallardo. Happy days again.
@wraith01mg The Countach has been designed by Marcello Gandini wich was employed at Centro Stile Bertone so Giugiaro doesn't have nothin to do with the Countach, but outside this fact I don't remember at the time of the Esprit S1 wich Lamborghini was similar, you mean the Urraco? But it was very different.
looks like a toyota mr2 '99

As far as styling is concerned. It doesn't look like a new Esprit. It looks more like what an all new Acura NSX would look like.
