Back when you could market a simple toy without complicating it with tie-ins like cartoons, accessory packs, some kind of batttle cards, or whatever. The only extras were the pop guns that came later.
My aunt bought a few sets of these in 1979 so I'd have some toys to play with when my family would come to visit. They sit in a drawer beside her couch to this very day! I still break them out when I go down there. I remember tormenting my aunts many cats with these things!
Whoever came up with this made a fortune, I'll bet. Probably cost no more than 25 cents to produce and sold for 4.99 or something. At least a 1800% markup!
@aldiakaroofus, Yep, us too, but man has the NAME of this toy given me all sorts of joy all throughout my childhood AND adult life!!! 30+ years!!! ...and just SINGING this jingle out of nowhere is SURE to make anyone laugh. ♪THE FINGER POP POPPER, A BARREL OF FUNNNN!!!!!♫
My brother and I had a Stretch Armstrong and the Hulk version. Same issues with that weird gel coming out. Imagine what kind of hazard that may have been to kids who were likely to lick it!
Does anyone remember they also sold a little "gun" you could put them in, that would shoot them out when you squeezed it. It came with a holster/bandolier thing to hold the gun and 6 or so of the pops.
Haha. My mom bought these for us because it was one of those toys that were actually affordable. Besides, it probably cost Kenner two cents a piece to manufacture them.

So affordable, what does a typical Wii cost now a days?

Take a Funnoodle and cut it into pieces. Same exact thing.
Also, "Finger Pops" sounds dirty to me... says something about my maturity level, perhaps.

Used to have a set of these as a kid.............as well as Stretch Armstrong! (Remember him?)

Yes! I used to stretch the shit out of his arms, and eventually I think he busted! Are we getting old, or what?
sjk72 2 years ago 2
I did the same thing with mine--he eventually started cracking and leaking some type of gel, so we had to throw him away.

My brother and I had some of them when we were little. After we'd used them a lot, they lost their "pop".
They're made of the same foam that's used in pool noodles.

Ah, I remember when Kenner reused those for the Finger-Pop Ghosts in the Real Ghostbusters toyline.
