  • A really interesting time signature to play in, you rarely hear it very much. What I like about this personality is that the time signature plays second fiddle to the feel and groove and creativity and dynamics and all number of other things. To take something somewhat abnormal and to out play it with your musicality...that is something special. I LOVED this performance.

  • @wharrislv Thanks for checking me out and taking time to write this kind message, cheers man.

  • @zerussomaniac Thanks for your messsage and taking time to watch my video, cheers.

  • Roger, you've done a really great thing with 7! It's probably my favorite time to drum in, and it's also a really easy one to do a poor job with...but you've struck a great balance between loose and tight. Some people are too free and never get a groove; some people are too straight and don't let it breath. You, on the other hand, have balanced it so well!

    Keep up the fantastic drumming.

  • @J0shParnell Hey man, thank you very much for your very kind compliment, thanks man, thanks.

  • Grazié per la messagieri Ciccio, thanks man, cheers.

  • I really like the organic feel of the 7. Not sounding like a machine but like a living organism. Good job!

  • Thanks man, and you're from New Zealand ? I've been there once, but I dream to go there again, I play rugby and The AB's are my favorite since always !!!

    Cheers mate.

  • You sound like a drum machine that is about to explode. In my world, that is a damn good thing

  • Thanks again Nycpntr, thanks man !!!

  • Tearing up 7/8 like its his job

  • Muchas gracias for your kind message InHumanForm55, thanks man.

  • Dude, You have a nice style...laid back at times, but never boring! I play keys, in a band and we have a little 7/8 groove also, but keep up the GREAT drumming!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for your message Yungatown, thanks man, cheers.

  • My only complaint (Which isn't really a complaint, more of a stylistic issue...) is how bass centric a lot of the song feels, and with all the snare and hi-hat interplay it sounds like you're playing Rock or Hip-Hop while everyone else is playing jazz. Granted, that could be exactly what you're going for, so it's hardly a 'fault'.

That said, favorited. Sick drumming, dude.

  • Hello TheCobaltRod and thanks for taking to write me your impression, thanks man.

Yes stylistic side it's very Jazz/fusion or Jazz/Rock oriented, everybody is not fan of this style of music so I hear you.

Thanks again for your very kind word about my drumming !!!

  • Yeah, I probably should've taken the time to watch the rest of your videos (Which I did afterwards), haha. The Weather Report cover would have been a huge tip off.

Sometimes you do seem to 'jump out' a bit, but I see what you're doing (Making the drums more than just a metronome). Dunno why your playing took so long to get used to, I blame lack of sleep. Anyways, I love what you're doing man, keep drumming and I'll keep your name in mind.

  • Thanks again for taking time to check out my work and to write me your impressions.

Well, I'm musician, it's what I do everyday, I try to make good music with my own view, my sensibility and my voice who is the drums, I think that I know what I'm doing and where I try to go...

Huge THANKS TheCobaltRod, have some great Holiday Season !!! :-)

  • vinnie colaiuta nut i see. develop some of your own shit and then post some more. nice work though...just not original at all.

  • Hey thanks for your comment and taking time to check out my video.

Well sure I'm a HUGE Vinnie fan, however my name is Roger Biwandu, it's the way I play music, and like everybody we can hear some of my influences, I think it's all good to have influence, as much as you're not a clone, and I'm clearly not good enough in my opinion for being a Vinnie's clone.

    Thanks man cheers !!! :-)

  • Rodge- inspiring my friend. AMAZING ideas + execution !

  • roger! i love your drumming! i love your drum sound! you use birch shell? and what about the snare, you use maple or birch?!

    Peace man, z'y va! :D

    Merci!

  • Hello FunkyDi, thanks for your message and your very kind words. I use here a Beech Custom Absolute, it is birch ? I think so... :-)

    Thanks Man, yo.

  • Thanks for your message and your kind words Samb721.

Also I'm not too familiar with the work of Spanky or Chris Dave, I know they are great player though, but remember to not compare musicians, it's an art not a sport, each other play with his own voice as different we are.

Thanks again for your great vibe Man, cheers.

  • Yo man, i wouldnt hesitate to put u on stage with Spanky or Chris Daddy Dave. And i really appreciate ur style, gettin 'er done w/o showin off. Lovin the sound of that snare and bass drum2!

  • Hey bro, your playing some clean notes. Its just amazing watching this piece. Your footwork is incredible. It backs up ur hand rythms like crazy!!! I was wondering... How did u get ur feet to line up sooooooooooooo good with ur hands???

keep doing what your man. You've influenced me soo much. Thanks for this Video!!!

    NoTEs SoN!!!

  • Hey Magodeoz96, thank you very much Man, you're way too sweet with me !!!

I'm looking myself for a store where I could buy hands and feet so I can't really help you, except that I use everything I have at his maximum, but I have a very limited technic.

    Thanks again Man, peace.

  • sick playing rodge. HOD member here.

  • Many thanks for your very kind words Roger, thanks.

  • Hey Roger! I've just been invited to coe and take lessons with you this summer, I believe you're taking part in a workshop from the 16th to the 23rd of august? I'm very much looking forward to it, I think I'll go learn what I can on the drummerworld page. I was at the Vienne jazz festival this summer, but unfortunately I wasn't able to catch you there. Hope to see you soon!

Désolé pourle message en anglais, c'est pour les autres ;) sinon, on se voit en août! A bientôt - Philippe

  • Ok great Philippe, see you there so, and thanks for your message.

  • Man, I LOVE Omar Hakim so thanks very much, I'm glad if you think that I play in his spirit, he's one on my favorite with Vinnie, Tain, Porcaro, Fish and Copeland, thanks Al3xMusic, cheers.

  • nice but not 7/8 sorry i was sitting here counting the piano out and also considering your drumming very nice although it isnt 7/8.... sorry

ps summertime is a common time tune

it is very strange to rid its apparant beat and this was obvious...nice post but it is in 4/4 common time fancy pansy shit bub -just frustrates me to see people fool other people- at one point the piano is going 1-2-3-4-1-2-3-4-:[

  • Hey Congoking88, thanks for taking time to check this video and counting for us... :-)

    Peace.

  • thank you for this music

  • thanks for the fun music peace

  • De nada Congoking, thanks very much to you, take care.

  • this is in 7. perhaps it's easier if you count it in 7/4. the piano repeats itself every 7 quarter notes.

  • Is this available on a record anywhere?

  • Hi Jesus05uk, no it's juste here, it was a kind of jam so no record... But thanks for cheking out !!! Cheers.

  • hey man , this is really tight. very impressed at your talent to jam in 7/8

    truly amazing.

  • Thanks for your very kind message Jonathan, I'm glad you appreciate my work, peace.

  • I guess you know the great movie about the Motown, and with all the CD out there, there is so much stuff to learn from the Funk Brothers, badass musicians for sure !!!

Thanks again for your message Bro', YOU are a killer !!!

  • inspiring

  • An honor Man, thanks.

  • Fantastic drumming. I like your sttyle of playing. Bysy but never too far away from what the song needs. I like the fact that you play Trad Grip too. I find it the most comfortable.

  • Hi Vinnysimmo, THANKS for your message Man. Well yeah, Trad Grip is the best way for me anyway to hold the drumsticks, and also I think that it's beautiful too !!! All right, thanks Man.

  • Wow! I wish I could do that. About the coolest version of "Summertime I've ever heard."
