But I have to admit I don't understand why everyone is talking about his great guitar playing. From this video (and others) it sounds solid, but nothing out of the ordinary. Is there something I'm missing here? Seems there must be something missing from the videos, if he really deserves the "best Christian guitarist in the world" title!

If you listen to any of his cds or watch some good videos you'll see that he is an very amazing guitarist and performer. He has some of the most amazing guitar solos i've ever heard and he's rated in like the top 20 guitarist in the world in present day. He's probably my most favorate worship singer ever.

i just saw him in concert at St. Louis... you can really tell he gets overwhelmed by the holy spirit, and he just lets it all come out on stage. He has some of the most amazing riffs i've ever heard in contemporary christian music... i say he deserves that title

Listen to his "All to you... Live" CD. I think the problem is you're trying to view a great guitarist as someone who is "technically" good (or someone who is good in their playing ability). But it's much more than that- not only is he good in his ability; not only is he a gifted in writing/composition, melody, etc.; but he is also very tasteful in his lead playing in regards to dynamics (in other words he knows exactly when to come in and when to back out). He is a VERY tasteful guitarist...
