You've got my seconding and my firsting (yes, I was among the few fighting his first presidency) on the motion to name Bush as the absolutely most worst president past present and future.
@happytravelling Obama is the worst president in U.S. histroy, if Bush was wrong to send them in, Obama is more wrong keeping us over there all this time, not to mention record breaking national deficit (deep on Obama's clock) that made bush look good. Sad but true.

Greeks, Kurds, Arabs, Persians, Jews (local populations), Armenians, and others--they have stabilized their ethnic and geographical puzzles over millennia.
Turks and French are relative newcomers.
British, Americans, Israelis--little babies who do not even know the time frame in which events unfold.
Bush did fuck up in Afghanistan more than Iraq. There's been some progress in Iraq (not near enough for the 6.5 years we've been there but...), Saddam was captured a government was elected and violence has tapered off for the most part. In Afghanistan, the Taliban have increased attacks, trouble has started up along the Pakistan border and in Pakistan, and we arent even close to finding bin Laden. Iraq=fail; Afghanistan=EPIC FAIL
In Armey's account, Cheney told him: "Iraq's "ability to miniaturize weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear," had been "substantially refined since the first Gulf War," and would soon result in "packages that could be moved even by ground personnel....We now know they have the ability to develop these weapons in a very portable fashion, and they have a delivery system in their relationship with organizations such as Al Qaeda."
"Did Dick Cheney ... purposely tell me things he knew to be untrue?" Armey said. "I seriously feel that may be the case...Had I known or believed then what I believe now, I would have publicly opposed [the war] resolution right to the bitter end, and I believe I might have stopped it from happening."
Down the road: the mainland Chinese will not allow the US and NATO to make Afghanistan into a client state.
It's is probably impossible anyway--which is why the Russians are laughing their balls off every time the thought of Afghanistan crosses their brilliant, chess-playing minds.
I advise everyone to read an article by John Pilger in the New Statesman (a UK magazine) entitled 'War is peace, ignorance is strength' which systematically destroys the notion that Obama has brought peace.
Number one indicator that power is being threatened is the appearance of people substituting rational debate and reasoned arguments with pathetic attacks on motive.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
There is a statistical study (by US soruces as I recall) that established that almost seventy percent of those killed by American bombs are women and children.
Okay, you have successfully brought up an argument against bombing practices in wartime. Join the club.
I actually agree with you. I think precision bombing, even today, is largely a naive concept. I don't think it should be used quite as often as it has been, but that still doesn't provide an effective argument against a war.
A running list of deaths at the hands of radical Islamic terrorists.
"boy killed by bomb in trash"
"body of decapitated woman found"
"gunmen kill young man"
"bomb kills 3 police"
"bomb kills 3 in barber's shop"
The implication from a lot on the left, is that its America's fault that those people are being murdered. Not the sexist, racist pigs who are perpetuating the violence.
Those happened how long ago? Like I said before, if the people of Iraq want to challenge their dictator, I would support it, hell I might go over and fight with my brothers and sisters there. Kind of like the Abraham Lincoln Brigade went to Spain during the Spanish Civil War. But that's different from what the American government did. You know when we overthrew the dictator elections were set up by the people in the communities. We couldn't even have that though, we stopped them. Continued......
Funny thing is we were allies with him while he did what he was doing.
Here's basically what happened, we invaded, got rid of Saddam, and the people were happy. Then they started setting up elections on the community, region, and national level. Basically they wanted to DEMOCRATICALLY elect their leaders. U.S. troops thought it was the greatest thing, they would even help make ballot boxes, but our government wouldn't have it. They called off elections assigned people to positions. Continued...
By evidence I don't mean just *you* saying it, to be honest I don't trust you as a reliable source.
No offense or anything, I just like an actual document or story.
The Iraqi parliament is entirely democratically elected, with women serving in many positions. Jalal Talabani was elected by popular vote, and the Prime Minister is selected by Iraqs National Assembly.
So I still have no idea what you are referring to.
Read the book "The Shock Doctrine". I'm talking about right after the dictator was overthrown, they didn't have elections for how long? The government set up right after that was probably one of the worst mistakes we ever made in Iraq.
Iraq and Afghanistan as military problems are spelled in the same way: LOGISTICS.
They are almost reverse problems, however.
The US has not even done as well as the ancient Romans in Mesopotamia, who lasted about ten years until they realized the costs far outweighed the benefits and withdrew.
So they basically set up their own kind of dictatorship, even assigning some oppressive military commanders from the old regime into the new one. So everything was decided behind the Green Zone by a few Americans, Iraqis, but for the most part corporations. I read books, but I also remember hearing news about elections being called off in Iraq early on.
Have you given any evidence to anything you have said at all? Have you ever even read the book or did you just read a review on wikipedia? Because if you read the book you would know.
I haven't alleged anything that isn't common knowledge, namely that Saddam was a murderer of innocent people, that Iraq is now holding free elections, and that while the run-up to Iraq was misleading, and obviously there have been mistakes (inevitable in any conflict) made, Iraq is still better off as a sovereign country.
You've merely pointed out corruption, and then failed to substantiate even that.
They were going to set up their own democracy and we said "No you can't" and set up our own guys, and even had people that were part of the oppressive regime of Saddam put back into the newly created government. I wonder how different the situation would be now if we didn't change this.
A lot of the comments on here should really anger true liberals.
I have to say, I'm disappointed to be part of a movement that is actively encouraging terrorism because of what they see as "American imperialism."
Never mind the fact that the conspiracy theory of Iraq being a purely capitalist venture has been long debunked by history as well as facts, this growing trend of the left blaming America for the despicable actions of Muslim radicals has got to stop.
Justifying it? When did I justify it? If I say a man murdered his cheating wife and made a conjecture stating that it was because she was cheating on him, would that be justifying it?
"To get the oil, to give the arms industry profit, to give Halliburton no bid contracts"
One of the most asinine things I've ever heard.
So you mean to tell me that Bush, one day, decided "I'll start a war in Iraq to make money for Halliburton!"
Are you actually serious? It's hard to tell. You can't possibly be insisting that a complex international entanglement arose out of some spur of the moment bout of corruption..
"that's a FACT."
Then I assume you have links to some evidence then.
And it keeps on getting worse. At least you had a theme in your previous rambling.
I don't know what to make of this new development; it seems to be an amalgamation of continued attacks on motives, ad hominems, bizarre quips on epistemology, algebra, and a juvenile use of an online thesaurus.
But by all means, continue. You only serve to prove my point.
I've won this debate before it even started, my friend.
A logical fallacy is not a basis for an argument, and personal attacks, red herrings and nonsensical psycho-babble just deepen your intellectual grave.
If you want to draw a comparison between the Soviet Union's presence in Afghanistan, with America's, fine, but don't expect us students of foreign affairs and politics to take you seriously.
Muslims are the ones that messed up, it's funny because you think they would want a better life after a genocidal dicatoar was ovethrown, but nooooo, killing each other on a daily basis for 6 years was a much better idea, ROFL
Do you have any idea what even happened in Iraq? After we invaded we put in place probably the freest market in the world right now. That sounds good to some, but you had mass unemployment, and then when companies came over to Iraq to rebuild the country they would hire people not from Iraq. So you have hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of unemployed Iraqis watching foreigners do everything. And you don't think someone going to try and change that, there method is terrorism.
"And you don't think someone going to try and change that, there method is terrorism"
It's amazing how you get away with accusing regular Iraqi's of being mindless reactionaries.
So I lost my job in state media because America did the right thing and created a liberal economy, therefore it's acceptable that I blow up a girls school?
You may have a point about the rebuilding effort depending too much on foreign companies, but your conclusion is absolutely false and borderline offensive.
Well I would have written more, but I only have 500 words to express myself. Creating a liberal economy totally destroyed the lives of all these people, how great, we suppressed democracy after we invaded Iraq, and the foreign companies extremely sucked at their job. They could barely get the lights on. I remember they had one group of Iraqis who actually did all that kind of good stuff for Iraqis but the private entities fucked him over and said he couldn't do it anymore.
You are leveling a criticism of corruption, which exists in every form of economy, and applying it exclusively to capitalism.
I'm not in disagreement with you that Iraq was mishandled, but saying it was wrong to free these people from fascism and that it has brought more harm than good to them is laughable at best.
Well maybe if there were some regulations and the Bush administration didn't just hand out contracts to anybody that asked. Really I don't know who the hell thought it was a good idea, but apparently it wasn't. Laughable at best? Tell that to the thousands of innocent civilians dead. I would fully support the people if they stoop up and revolted against their dictator, but going around invading countries is not the way to go.
"Cheney lied to at least one Congressman in private about WMD"
I don't think anybody is defending Cheney or Bush, but if you are going to insist that Afghanistan is a huge conspiracy, you are going to have to present some evidence.
Paranoid? Not paranoid, I just thought I was talking to one of them. Yes it does apply to them, they totally milked the fear in people when they knew Iraq had no WMD's.
After they said he couldn't do what he was doing(Doing their job for them) he said fuck them and started his own rebel organization. It's funny because they fired so many soldiers, and the soldiers just kept all their guns.
Interestign figues, It would be great to see total numbers of troops in both countries (All the NATO troops in otherwords) Because America might have been forced to shoulder the burden more and more (especially Iraq) as other coalition troops have pulled out. Very Misleading to state this numbers with out including other countries contribution (or not).
I cant stand this guy, LOL look at his body languish, the way he shoves his hands around, the strange noise's that comes out his mouth, the funny facial expressions and a occasional fart, what a bosso, could someone tell this guy that Bush is long gone
Hey moron, it was SAUDIS who bombed the WTC. Why is it ok for obama to roast villages with white phosphorous and not ok to stop a dictator in Iraq? Afghanistan did not attack us! DO SOME RESEARCH!!! We are witnessing an ego driven war to "capture bin laden and break al qaeda". One of the 4304394990493 promises that the glorious leader will not keep.
Cenk, please tell me that that this isn't news to you. You can't honestly have not known that the US all but pulled out of Afghanistan for years.
26,000 troops is one of the better numbers. In 2003 (as recently reported by The Washington Post), the US only had 9,500 troops in Afghanistan. I was under the impression that this was all common knowledge. If it wasn't, American news media is doing an even worse job than I thought!
I thought that the number 12,000 was a number floating around for a long time. I thought everyone knew that, but unfortunately didn't give a shit. Though the fact that it was mentioned only as an after thought in the media kinda makes me feel like somebody was sucking somebody else off. Pretty shameful either, way.
I would blame Rumsfeld more than Bush. He was the original advocate of the light infantry footprint. He used what he deemed success in Afghanistan to support a case for a light footprint in Iraq. The buck stops at Bush but that was Rummy's miscalculation. He was all about winning battles and had no clue how to win a war.
Bush DID fuck up in Afghanistan in a BIG WAY! instead of going after Al-Qaida(aka Bin Laden and his not so merry men) he started a war in Afghanistan and then left it half way through!he then sent the troops that where ear marked for that benighted country into Iraq instead! total dickhead!
right now Bin Laden and his evil minded lot are laughing their heads off at Bush and wishing that he was back in power,as Obama is going after HIM now!
we are never leaving either country. We will leave forces in both contries for the next 30 years minimum. We are there for oil. Period. Look at the troop placement. They are in areas where we will build oil pipe lins down to the Ocean. We are there for oil, and to think anything else is to be Niaeve. We are not there to avenge the americans we lost on 9-11, we are there to make Bush, Cheney and all his ilk money.
Exactly...Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan is where oil pipeline will build. Don't fool yourself about so called terrorists. When mujahedeen fought the russian and defeated them they were called freedom fighters now the same people are called taliban and al-qaida.
You forgot Saudi Arabia where a majority of the 9/11 fellows were from. I wonder why we didn't invade their country. Oh yeah. They sold their souls to the US along time ago which in turn has created a rift in the middle east. Those Arabs who will submit and remain docile and those who will not stand to be a 2nd class citizen in their own countries.
When the Mujahideen were fighting the Soviets, they WERE freedom fighters. The Soviets unjustly invaded their country, why wouldn't they have a right to dispel them?
There is a marked difference between invading a country for the purpose of imperial expansion, and in response to a terrorist attack that killed two thousand people.
What "rift" in the Middle East are you talking about?
"those who will not stand to be a 2nd class citizen in their own countries"
Last I checked, every Iraqi got to vote, and everyone was considered equal under the law.
If you are insisting that terrorists who murder innocent children on their way to school, are just doing it because "big bad America," you're a fucking idiot, as well as a disgusting masochist.
Jesus Christ, you can't even spell right and you are daring to lecture us on geopolitics?
Give me a fucking break. Morons like you make me ashamed to be a liberal.
If we were there for oil we'd be gone already. There would be no other reason to have bases inside all of the major cities, and to continue to build infrastructure and establish a government.
You may disagree with the execution and selling of the Iraq war like I do, but insisting its some neo-con conspiracy is just non-factual.
Well, you have to take it a few steps further...not the drugs but the profits from the drugs. The money generated from the Opium would be very helpful to CIA "back projects" like they did during Viet Nam....So yes in a way you are correct but you need to take it further. Money that our government uses via our taxes is supposed to be accounted for. However revenue generated threw illegal means like drug trafficking...well then they have free rein over that.
If either of you knew at all what the fuck you were talking about, then you'd know that the US military is BURNING poppy crops, and not selling them. (The land isn't ours to sell)
We *should* get in on the opium trade, for the reasons of denying the Taliban their main income source, and because it would be much better for everyone if it was legalized and monitored by the state.
The question is, do you think the Taliban should continue to make millions to funnel into child murder?

Okay, you have successfully brought up an argument against bombing practices in wartime. Join the club.
I actually agree with you. I think precision bombing, even today, is largely a naive concept. I don't think it should be used quite as often as it has been, but that still doesn't provide an effective argument against a war.
Once you can do that, let me know.

Mabuza14 2 years ago
"Time heals all wounds" doesn't apply to genocide. Especially when those tyrants were still alive and unopposed by the international community.
Think what you want about the Iraq war, at least those people are rid of a brutal madman.
"even had people that were part of the oppressive regime of Saddam"
The Ba'ath party has been banned since 2003.
I don't even know what you are referring to as far as the US and their elections. Some evidence or proof would be nice.
F33bs 2 years ago
Funny thing is we were allies with him while he did what he was doing.
Here's basically what happened, we invaded, got rid of Saddam, and the people were happy. Then they started setting up elections on the community, region, and national level. Basically they wanted to DEMOCRATICALLY elect their leaders. U.S. troops thought it was the greatest thing, they would even help make ballot boxes, but our government wouldn't have it. They called off elections assigned people to positions. Continued...
Mabuza14 2 years ago
By evidence I don't mean just *you* saying it, to be honest I don't trust you as a reliable source.
No offense or anything, I just like an actual document or story.
The Iraqi parliament is entirely democratically elected, with women serving in many positions. Jalal Talabani was elected by popular vote, and the Prime Minister is selected by Iraqs National Assembly.
So I still have no idea what you are referring to.
F33bs 2 years ago
Read the book "The Shock Doctrine". I'm talking about right after the dictator was overthrown, they didn't have elections for how long? The government set up right after that was probably one of the worst mistakes we ever made in Iraq.
Mabuza14 2 years ago
Haha--"Shock And Awe"--half PR, and half third-rate Blitzkrieg.
Same fatal problems as with Blitzkrieg as well.
The US military brass then begins to believe their own absurd PR.
mopsius 2 years ago
Iraq and Afghanistan as military problems are spelled in the same way: LOGISTICS.
They are almost reverse problems, however.
The US has not even done as well as the ancient Romans in Mesopotamia, who lasted about ten years until they realized the costs far outweighed the benefits and withdrew.
mopsius 2 years ago
So they basically set up their own kind of dictatorship, even assigning some oppressive military commanders from the old regime into the new one. So everything was decided behind the Green Zone by a few Americans, Iraqis, but for the most part corporations. I read books, but I also remember hearing news about elections being called off in Iraq early on.
Mabuza14 2 years ago
You still haven't given me actual evidence or anything, just to let you know.
The closest you've is in citing Naomi Klein's "Shock Doctrine," which is really about economic policy.
F33bs 2 years ago
Have you given any evidence to anything you have said at all? Have you ever even read the book or did you just read a review on wikipedia? Because if you read the book you would know.
Mabuza14 2 years ago
I haven't alleged anything that isn't common knowledge, namely that Saddam was a murderer of innocent people, that Iraq is now holding free elections, and that while the run-up to Iraq was misleading, and obviously there have been mistakes (inevitable in any conflict) made, Iraq is still better off as a sovereign country.
You've merely pointed out corruption, and then failed to substantiate even that.
F33bs 2 years ago
They were going to set up their own democracy and we said "No you can't" and set up our own guys, and even had people that were part of the oppressive regime of Saddam put back into the newly created government. I wonder how different the situation would be now if we didn't change this.

Mabuza14 2 years ago

'''Saturday 10 October: 4 dead

Why did those people have to die, Mabuza? Is it the fault of students, girls and women that Iraq is being occupied by America?
If the insurgency in Iraq is mad at America, why are they killing their OWN people?
You are attempting to white-wash murder, and you should be ashamed.
F33bs 2 years ago
Justifying it? When did I justify it? If I say a man murdered his cheating wife and made a conjecture stating that it was because she was cheating on him, would that be justifying it?
Mabuza14 2 years ago
F33bs: it depends what you mean.
If you mean Iraq the COUNTRY, well it's millenia older than the States, so it couldn't have been their capitalist venture.
If you mean Iraq the WAR, then you're wrong.
OF CO-O-OURSE it was a capitalist venture!

Mabuza14 2 years ago
"And you don't think someone going to try and change that, there method is terrorism"
It's amazing how you get away with accusing regular Iraqi's of being mindless reactionaries.
So I lost my job in state media because America did the right thing and created a liberal economy, therefore it's acceptable that I blow up a girls school?
You may have a point about the rebuilding effort depending too much on foreign companies, but your conclusion is absolutely false and borderline offensive.
F33bs 2 years ago
Well I would have written more, but I only have 500 words to express myself. Creating a liberal economy totally destroyed the lives of all these people, how great, we suppressed democracy after we invaded Iraq, and the foreign companies extremely sucked at their job. They could barely get the lights on. I remember they had one group of Iraqis who actually did all that kind of good stuff for Iraqis but the private entities fucked him over and said he couldn't do it anymore.
Mabuza14 2 years ago
You are leveling a criticism of corruption, which exists in every form of economy, and applying it exclusively to capitalism.
I'm not in disagreement with you that Iraq was mishandled, but saying it was wrong to free these people from fascism and that it has brought more harm than good to them is laughable at best.
F33bs 2 years ago
Well maybe if there were some regulations and the Bush administration didn't just hand out contracts to anybody that asked. Really I don't know who the hell thought it was a good idea, but apparently it wasn't. Laughable at best? Tell that to the thousands of innocent civilians dead. I would fully support the people if they stoop up and revolted against their dictator, but going around invading countries is not the way to go.
Mabuza14 2 years ago
The Bush Adminstration invaded and occupied Afghanistan under false pretences.
It had nothing to do with the old Taliban or "Osama Bin Laden".

You may disagree with the execution and selling of the Iraq war like I do, but insisting its some neo-con conspiracy is just non-factual.

ok Mr. know it all why are we there then. If not for oil. Please do tell why are we there? The floor is all yours.
I see you have all the talking points down, so tell us ingnorant people who can't spell why are we there?
Because I would like to know and since you have set yourself up to be the fucking expert tell us.

No, we *aren't* there for oil. That can be unilaterally disregarded as a viable conspiracy theory.
Otherwise America would have left the country, and only had troops to guard the oil wells.
"I see you have all the talking points"
I see you can't recognize the difference between talking points and actual, irrefutable evidence.
Also, I didn't say there was *one* reason for being in Iraq, I actually disputed that idea.
There are many, and they don't all center around YOU.
