@lPinkRainn You do know that comets can live 25-40 years right? Being proud about a 4 year old goldfish is like being happy that your child died at the age of ten. The "rules of fish tanks" are based on decades of work and experience. They are well informed and those who make them have been keeping fish since before you were born.
Even in a 30g, the tank is overstocked. People really need to start doing research on the ADULT size of the fish they acquire before sticking them into tiny tanks. Just because a 20 or 30-gallon seems large to a novice, doesn't mean it is capable of housing half-foot to foot-long fish.
What HOB filter do you have there? I have 2 Tetra Whispers for well over 7 years now, still going strong. I wouldn't touch an AquaClear with a 10-foot pole. Still to this day, Hagen Aqua-Clears have the potential to fail to self-prime after a power outage. Not cool when you're away from home or on vacation.
i actaully got my 80 gallon for 30 bucks and all set up free stuff for 50 . and the glass was kinda broken but. i used that sil coon thing LOL so i didnt waiste much . and im getting more fish. for sure 2 kois idk yet :D
My advice to give your goldfish a chance to thrive would be to Google "GAB Goldfish Care Sheet"
It will give you all the info you need about looking after your fish. I understand a lot of retailers don't give you the info you need to help you look after your pet but there are experienced people online who can advise you about things like tank size, water quality & general care.
If you have any questions feel free to Inbox me and Id be happy to help and have a look at the videos of my fish. :)
This is just a sick cruel thing to do. they at least need a 55 gallon of how big they are. I have 3 baby fantail fish in a 20 gallon long tank, with 3 filters ( I have over 90 gallons of filtering) I have a 30 gallon air pump too. If I new you I would have stole your fish and put them in a 55.
@quirqy11 Not really. Before when I had my 2 comets, they lived in a tank for nearly 4 years and that tank was only around 20 gal. Theyre still alive and happy. Most of the rules of fish tanks are stupid and pathetic.
30 gallons is only big enough for two goldfish. when will people realise that these are carp? They need space. They won't improve in colour because they are stunted.
feed them Pro-Gold from goldfishconnection (dotcom) it really enhances color and gets your goldfish to grow quickly, and also decreases the amount of waste
Just so everyone knows: it's 20 Gallons for one Fancy Goldfish (Not comet) and then 10 Gallons per extra fish. The most you should have in a 30G is 2 Goldies since they are so freaking dirty.
I have a 30 Gallon tank with just one goldfish. Happy fish and stable aquarium.
@jarederajarederaj comets in a pond alone can grow 18 inch nd some other fancy goldfish can grow 11 inch ( red cap oranda ) , shubunkins can also grow a foot.not enough room or overstocking your aquarium.. they can pollute their own water faster and if you change water too much you can upset the good bacteria in your tank ( and undo what good cycling your tank before hand did ) that helps make fish poop nearly harmless resulting to bad water conditions
should i upgrade my goldfish to a bigger tank since i have one lonley goldfish i got at petsmart 2 weeks ago he seems fine but lonley he is alway swimming with his reflection and i have him in a ten gallon tank
ok, i need some help here. i have a 10 gallon tank with five fantail goldfish in it and i dont know if thats too much but i watched lots of videos and lots of people have five goldfish in a ten gallon tank....... soooooooo help me out here....... and if u are wonder how i take care of them for some odd reason i feed them in the morning and sometimes a little bit at night but not always. i have lots of plants and 1 rock thing !!!!!!!!!!!!
you should only have 2 or 3 fantail goldfish in a 10 gallon tank I had two fantail goldfish wanted 1 more got 1 so now I have 3 of them I my first two fantail goldfish on wedensday june 24,2009 & I got my 3rd fantail goldfish on sunday septemember 6,2009 now its thursday june 17,2010 there all doing great my first two fantail goldfish just turned 1 years old on april 2,2010 & my 3rd fantail goldfish will be turning 1 years on july 2,2010. I do 30 %water cleaning once a month every month.
its OK goldfish(es) where not so aggressive even though they are many on there tank, as long as they can still express there selves its OK, and for 10 gallon you can put as much 5 pcs only, not too big goldfishes can manage.

-Common Goldfish = 20 Gal per fish.
-Fancy Goldfish = 20Gal pf & 10 Gal per extra fish.
-Each tank should have a filter system to cope with high Goldfish waste.
-Fancys and Commons (Single tails) CANNOT be kept together.
-Tank water should be conditioned with a De-chlorinator product.
-New tank can take weeks to set up before fish can be added due to “The Nitrogen Cycle” look it up.
-Weekly water test with a liquid test kit will show toxins in your water and alert you if a water change needed.

horselover2838 1 year ago
@horselover2838 You need 20 gallons for the first fish and 10 for each additional fish. Goldfish (especially fantails) can reach up to 12 inches.
Putting 5 goldfish in a 10 gallon tank is murdering them.
Starfishurricane 1 year ago
@horselover2838 looking at 5 fantails in a 10 gal would seem okay but they will grow and grow and grow and you would need a 50 gal
